Having eaten here this evening I can only assume that the one poor review below was the anomaly.
The food was excellent. Bento box was a little novelty, but just a side dish to the main event which was uniformly excellent across the 6 different dishes we ordered.
Service was timely and warm. My only minor niggle was that the beer and wine should have been better chilled.
A great little place, deserved its 4 stars.

We went here for a quiet mid-week birthday getaway in December and I can’t fault the experience from beginning to end.
The room was a reasonably spacious, well-appointed double en-suite with interesting bits of furniture. Complimentary brownies on arrival were excellent! Good little minibar with a solid small label Champagne.
The shellfish tasting menu was lovely with particular highlights being the bisque, scallop thermidore, and the lobster. From the a la carte menu we also had scallops (pork belly, cauliflower purée, lime syrup) which was also very good.
Breakfast similarly perfect in the morning with fresh orange juice, poached eggs and toast.
Naturally the whole experience wasn’t cheap, but it was excellent value.

Love this place. Dried herbs and spices are much cheaper than the supermarket. Also condiments and sauces too e.g soy sauce: Tesco 1.35 for 150 ml. Here it’s about 90p for a litre!
Frozen fish here is good too. Shellfish is much cheaper and better than big supermarkets.
The best thing about this place is the many interesting bits and bobs to try. Such as the dumplings which are amazing. Lots of different types and all delicious. Then there’s things like shrimp paste which costs a fortune in Tesco – makes amazing Thai curry, ten different types of chilli sauces, pickled everything, sacks of dried mushrooms. Also there’s ‘local delicacies’ like chicken’s feet and rice wine…
Do yourself a favour: go there and spend a tenner on things you’ve never heard of!

Where to start…
This is an interesting place, from the poster on the outside of the building depicting a pig with several pairs of boobs in lingerie alongside the claim that this is ‘the only show in UK’ – to the curious mix of decor on the inside, this is certainly an experience.
The food in general was pretty good. The Schee, a good hearty pickled cabbage broth was warming, the goulash was creamy and tasty, and the Russian black garlic bread was excellent. The steak wasn’t a wonderful piece of meat and the savoury pancakes a bit bizarre – difficult to tell what was in them. Unfortunately desserts were terrible.
There was a not unpleasant chaos about the whole experience. When the DJ started singing karaoke tunes at 8 we knew this was going to be a ride. Sure enough, this was followed by a balancing contortionist. Fortunately we left before the multiple-mammaried pig arrived.
The one thing I suppose I must mention was the abysmal and amateur service. They lost our order, ignored drinks ordered, got orders wrong, cleared plates while we were still eating – the list goes on. Although I would add that I wouldn’t change it a bit!
In summary, pretty good food in mad surroundings. Great fun.

We arrived here at 1115 on a Sunday and they were set up for lunch with almost every table reserved. We got a table after a little haggling…
The food was excellent. Bacon and sausages in the all day breakfast were first class.
Friendly service. Great place but may need to reserve at busy times.

Now that the terrible Lock Fyne has gone this is quite a good place. Looks a little bit Disney inside, like all chain places, but still… Service is good, reasonable selection of beers, food was good pub grub as well. Proper guacamole on the tortillas and good burgers at reasonable price.

Fresh lemonade was great! Pasta was very average as was the Nicoise salad. Nice fresh focaccia.

We weren’t expecting a gourmet experience here but this was terrible food.
Bad anglicised Chinese food can be great in that ’it’s so bad, but soooo good’ way, but the basics have to be done right. Here the food was cold, really cold. It was also tasteless. Even old favourites like sweet and sour chicken, and beef in hoi sin were very poor. Horrible gelatinous meat and thick cold sauce…yuk. I’m convinced the shredded duck didn’t actually contain duck.
They used to have a few sushi bits and bobs but no more – just crab sticks and no wasabi!
Terrible desserts.
Beers were cold… is the only good thing I can say. There’s plenty of choice in China town. Choose something else.

This review is for ‘Nam Nam’ – the Thai restaurant at the Old Bore.
Ordered take away from here yesterday. The mixed starter for two was ok. Pretty good even, but way over-priced at £14. That pricing runs through the rest of the menu too with mains weighing in at £10 – £13! You get 10% discount on take-away but still…
Having said that, the main courses were superb. Roast duck curry and braised beef curry were beautiful, rich and flavoursome. The pad Thai noodles were very good also.
In summary, this place serves excellent food but, due probably to it’s location, is prohibitively expensive to become a regular treat.
