Wembley Stadium - Wembley
Wembley National Stadium, Brent, London HA9 0WS

This really is one of the best stadiums I have ever visited. I always heard great things about it, but didn’t expect to be as blown away as I was. I had the displeasure of the Old Wembley, which in its day was obviously a fine spectacle, but nothing compared to this. The atmosphere is good, with the roof offering fine acoustics, unlike other new stadiums which are likened to libraries. I’m thinking: Emirates, The Reebok, Eastlands and St Mary’s. It’s always difficult leaving a traditional place like the Old Wembley, particularly after the success of '66, but England have really done this with an air of class. Of course, my judgement is obviously through rose tinted glasses. England 5 - 1 Kazakhstan…anyone?
Emirates Stadium - Highbury

Predictably, this is best stadium I’ve ever visited. I heard great things about it, but didn’t expect to be as blown away as I was. I’ve had the pleasure of touring the Nou Camp one summer, but even that didn’t come close to the Emirates. The atmosphere is another thing entirely and needs to be worked on, but the actual stadia is quality. It’s always difficult leaving a traditional place like Highbury, after years of success, but Arsenal have really done this with an air of class. Of course, my judgement is obviously through rose tinted glasses. Arsenal 0 - 2 Aston Villa…anyone?
The Globe - London Bridge
8 Bedale Street, Borough, London SE1 9AL

A nice place to hang out after work. I’d by no means set aside an evening and travel over to The Globe from the other side of England BUT this is one of those places where you can really find a bit of comfort and end up staying for a good few hours. It’s situated in the heart and soul of London and literally a stones flick (not even a throw) from Borough Market. Only downside is that the bar gets a bit busy and can at times be up to 2 or 3 people deep.

I was in no mood to mess about here - just get in, watch a little football with a few friends, have a pint and leave. Upon entering, you immediately feel as though you’ve entered a private party uninvited. I hadn’t entered a private party uninvited, but a pub…a public house. After one drink, we sat back and started to enjoy the football. Unbeknown to us, our glasses had been empty for around 15 minutes when the owner decided, in not too many words, that we should either purchase another or leave. I would have been happy to, and did purchase another drink, but the manner in which he asked us was pretty unnerving. If it was the last pub in London, I’d devote my time to brewing my own beer…
Tricycle Theatre - Kilburn
269 Kilburn High Road, Kilburn, London NW6 7JR

If you compare the Vue cinema to a Musical Act, it would be an X-Factor hyped super group flop. They do everything to attract the masses, but there are always a select few who want a bit more from a cinema. Tricycle Theatre offers just that. It’s more personal, homely and although there aren’t as many screens as the 'Big Dogs’ down in Piccadilly Circus, you can have a cup of tea, a cake, watch a film and avoid the queues. What more could you want…
sports cafe - West End

A really impersonal “Super Bar”. It’s not the type of place you visit to feel good about yourself. You’re very much one of a number. One of a crowd…but there is a “but”. If you like your sports, and you’re looking to watch quite an obscure game, the odds are they will show it. Champions League night for instance - they will show every game. So if you’re a Zenit St Petersberg fan in London, or like most, a Manchester United fan from London, you can watch your team…not exactly in comfort, but you can watch your team.
Little Venice - Little Venice
Maida Vale, London W2 1TH
07-11-2008
Get a bike, get to Little Venice and the day will fly by in a mist of flowers, barges, cute little restaurants, falling leaves and sunshine. This all depends on the time of year, and granted I’ve only been the once (Mid-Sept), but still, it’s a beautiful day out and provides a great alternative to the hustle, bustle, huffing and puffing of central London…
The Roxy - Fitzrovia
3 Rathbone Place, Fitzrovia, London W1T 1HH

Leaving uni a year ago was a severe blow to the system, as it is to everyone. BUT you can hang out here, pretend to be a student without anyone being any wiser. It’s a cool little place, fairly cosy with low ceilings, alright music and a raised dancefloor. Who doesn’t love a raised dancefloor? Well, me, but it’s nice for other people who like to make a meal out of their dancemoves. Drinks are fairly priced, particularly on Tuesdays. All in all, not as underground and unknown as one might like, but still a good hang out.
Kensal Green (All Souls) Cemetery - Willesden
Harrow Road, Kensal Green, London NW10 5NU

When a friend said “lets go for a walk”, I was obviously all for it. Who wouldn’t be? It was a lovely day. But around a cemetery? I was pretty skeptical to say the least but all that was quickly wiped away upon arrival. Beautiful, peaceful (obviously) and very traditional…it could do with a little renovation - the grass was knee high in some areas - but other than that, it’s a surprisingly lovely way to spend a Sunday afternoon. However, I imagine this review would read quite differently if it had been p*ssing it down on a Monday morning
The Masons Arms - Willesden
665 Harrow Road, Kensal Green, London NW10 5NU

(updated on 10-10-2008)
The “Mason’s”, as it’s affectionately and plausibly dubbed, is a cracking little pub. Spiral staircases, friendly bar staff, quality (pricey) food … Keep an eye out for themed nights as well. The place, like most others, was throbbing during the Notting Hill Carnival. And for anyone who likes their beer with a sprinkle of football, walk yourself upstairs and visit the world of large screens, small screens, smaller screens, larger screens, medium screens…screens screens screens. You will think Andy Gray and his 8 variably-sized twin brothers are sat there right next to you.
