Stratford Station - Stratford

Where old meets new – feels like the old station has been bolted on to the new – half bright and shiny the rest a bit scruffy. Not sure this is the image to project to a world stage. Quick to Liverpool Street though and right next to the entrance to Westfield Stratford
Tortilla - Stratford

Everything feels a little too clinical and perfect at Westfield for my liking – all new and shiny. Soulless – there is no character. This branch of Tortilla offers all the familiar favourites – open plan frontage lets you see your food prepared before your eyes. Friendly staff, fresh food – would have liked a bit more of a kick from the hot chilli sauce. Great value for money – one of the better food options at Westfield!

My new favourite coffee shop….tucked off city road close to Old Street roundabout. Very good flat white and let’s face it the coffee is what matters. Cakes and baguettes on display looked moreish. Lovely ambience – urban style done well. Probably what Shoreditch Grind would love to be if they had the space and budget. I see this as somewhere I will definitely be spending too many afternoons
The Bedroom Bar - Shoreditch
62 Rivington Street, London EC2A 3AY

Hot sweaty fun for an end of the night boogie, gets pretty packed, sometimes the bar is four deep waiting to buy a drink! Top tip: tip one of the bar staff really well on your first round and they will look after you the rest of the evening ensuring quick service……. Cool tunes mixed in with some vintage stuff which gets everyone singing along. They have a great outside terrace for a cool down and a chat after a good dance (if you can fight through the smoke) It’s cheap too £5.00 to £7.00 entrance depending on advance or OTD for most nights and their drink prices are not outrageous.
LSO St Luke's - Old Street
161 Old Street, London EC1V 9NG

We absolutely love St Luke’s – as a music venue it is perfection. With huge windows in the summer the sun pours through and looks stunningly beautiful and the incredible ceiling height allows for great acoustics. It makes me feel quite emotional walking in and waiting for a concert to start. You get to see some exciting fringe stuff as well as top billing artists. All the staff are very professional and the bar and cafe have an affordable and fairly extensive range of food and beverages. Homemade style cakes and cookies are delicious alongside proper coffee and herbal teas.
This has been an amazing restoration – for too many years the burnt out shell of the church signified your arrival in decaying east London. Now it reflects the best of the Shoreditch renaissance.
Definately my favourite venue in London for a lunchtime break.
Alexandra Palace - Alexandra Palace

Another great London Park. We have spent many a lazy afternoon here while the older kids have been swimming in galas at Park Road Pool down the road. A great place to while away some hours in the sun. Again we are normally packed up with a picnic and flask of coffee. The views here are some of the best in London and there are great hills for rolling down. Nice little playground, super boating lake open April to November and make sure you catch the deer enclosure – take your time and explore. We have also used the ice rink which is ok but not great. I imagine live gigs here are awesome….on our to do list!
Pizza East - Shoreditch
Ground Floor, The Tea Building, Shoreditch High Street, Shoreditch, London E1 6JJ

Went to Pizza east with a couple of friends recently, front desk staff were very friendly and kept us updated on how long we had to wait via their electronic gizmos, we had a drink in the bar first. Really buzzy atmosphere, bar staff were good fun and entertaining. We were taken to our seats and were sat in the middle of a long table next to other diners, not really my thing sharing eating space with complete strangers!!! Too many try hard’s from around the Shoreditch/Hoxton area. In fact one twenty something asked us to keep the noise down, little oik!!!! We shared some starters calamari was tough, and can’t even remember what else we ordered. However the Pizza was pretty good although expensive for what you get. Redeeming feature 50 % discount for Shoreditch House members. Had fun but that was more about the company than the venue………..
Gauthier - Soho
21 Romilly Street, Soho, London W1D 5AF

This had long been on our list of places we need to go – prompted by the many favourable recommendations from clients at the salon. A planned birthday celebration was the perfect excuse to visit. We went wild with the taster menu and accompanying wine selection. Stunning breads, sweet attentive staff, faultless food obviously prepared with much love and relaxed surroundings. This is grown up food of the highest order served in relaxed and tasteful surroundings. We will definitely be returning.
Coram's Fields - Bloomsbury

A favourite haunt of ours for the last 20 years. A hidden gem tucked away by the Brunswick Centre at the end of Red Lion Street. If you have kids this is a must visit place. To gain entrance adults must be accompanied by children. A great mix of sandpits, water play, playgrounds, grass areas, an adventure playground – with aerial slide – a cafe and animals. If the sun is out bring a picnic or visit the cafe and chill out knowing your kids are in a seriously safe environment. Great venue for kids birthday parties – we have been to a few here over the years. They also have astroturf football pitches at the back of the park for hire. We have so many fond memories of simply chilling for the day here – worth searching out.
Tinder Box Espresso Emporium - Islington
N1 Centre, Parkfield Street, London N1 0PS
13-03-2012
I only ever use this place for grab and go coffee when cutting through the N1 shopping centre. They have a small takeaway point on the ground floor. The coffee is fine – not great. Staff a bit hit and miss and can be slow. I have given up waiting in line on a couple of occasions. Bit pricey but guess it needs to be with the location…
