Cafe Express - Llandudno

56 Mostyn Street, Llandudno, Wales LL30 2RP

18-05-2013

The traditional cooked meals on offer are quite nice and good value, but sadly the extras that go with them, such as drinks are incredibly expensive, as are the cakes and light bites, for those who are just after a small bite to eat. The unpleasant staff could use some training in customer service too.

Vecchio Snack Bar - Llandudno

7 Madoc Street, Llandudno, Wales LL30 2TL

18-05-2013

This establishment is not going to win any awards and it's doesn't look like the most inviting of places, but it's perfectly acceptable if you're after a cheap and cheerful snack. One can't help but admire the Italian gentleman who run's the place . He must of been doing it for over 40-50 years, as my mum remembers him from when she was a little girl!

Asda - Bangor

Farrar Road, Bangor, Gwynedd County LL57 1LJ

04-04-2013

The store itself is alright. Good variety of food items on the shelves, and the aisles are pretty wide, so it's a decent place to do a food shop. Disappointingly, there's not much choice in entertainment items, household goods or mens clothing.

Doesn't seem as the store was needed in Bangor though. Everytime I've visited the store has been extremely quiet, and I've visited at various times of the day too. Good for those who want to do a stress free big shop and not have to queue, but it does feel strange going around a big supermarket, which has more staff on the shop floor than customers, and I suspect this can't be good for staff morale.

The cafe is quite bad. The staff seem feckless and can't even cook toast properly. Got two slices of warm floppy bread on one visit! Again, everytime I've looked at the cafe, there's barely any people there, compared to Morrisons cafe which is always full, so it's only worth taking a chance on the place if you want quick service or want to sit in complete silence...

Enochs - Llandudno Junction

146 Conwy Road, Llandudno Junction, Wales LL31 9DU

17-08-2012 (updated on 04-04-2013)

Best chippy in the Llanduno Junction/Conwy area. Chips look delicious and are very tasty, but are so incredibly filling, that they can prevent you from getting on with the rest of your meal! Plenty of choices of fish on the menu, including Cod, Hake, Haddock, Plaice and Mackerel. All of these are cooked to order, as in most other 5* chippys, apart from the cod, which is unfortunate, as they don't look so appetizing sitting in the hotplate. Nevertheless, they always taste good, but are smaller fillets than other outlets and sometimes the batter can be a bit too greasy. Customer service is outstanding when eating in the restaurant but only satisfactory in the takeout area. If you are not eating in or don't have a car, there's a small clearing with a few benches, a stone throw away from the chippy if you are looking for somewhere to eat outside.

EDIT :-

Quality has declined recently in my opinion. Chips are often cold and the fish has been getting smaller and more greasy too. Disappointing, so I won't be returning for some time.

Archway Fish & Chip Shop - Conwy

12-14 Bangor Road, Conwy, Wales LL32 8NH

06-05-2012 (updated on 04-04-2013)

Staffed by a bunch of teens, so as I feared the food was no good. Chips had no taste, and I think they were frozen supermarket chips, not the 'proper' ones you come to this establishment for. The cod fillet seemed to be missing, as 80% of my so called fish was just horrible greasy batter. Never again.

EDIT :-
"Never again" is what I said back in May 2012, but I was killing some time in Conwy recently, and decided to give The Archway a second chance. What a diffrence from last time. Chips were deliciously fresh and were obviously home made, and the fish was excellent too this time around. My theory is that The Archway provides better food, when there's  an experienced looking man or woman in a chef's uniform behind the hotplate, instead of a bunch of teenage girls, so next time I'm hungry in Conwy, The Archway will be getting my business,  if those conditions are met.

Leopold's Cafe - Llandudno

39 Mostyn Street, Llandudno, Wales LL30 2NL

18-03-2013

Nice little cafe hidden away at the back of a small shopping arcade. Friendly staff, fast service and good value for money.

Harvey's New York Bar & Grill - Llandudno

72 Mostyn Street, Llandudno, Wales LL30 2SB

23-01-2013

We decided to visit Harvery's the other day now that it's had some time to settle and as they had a Winter offer of selected meals for £4.99 between the hours of 11am and 3pm. Staff were very attentive and the furnishing and decor inside are very nice indeed. After ordering our meal with the waiter, we were given a cup of complementary popcorn which was a very nice touch. I had the fish burger, while my friend had an ordinary burger. The food was very well presented. The burgers came open on a tray, with the filling placed on one bab, while the garnish was ontop of the other, so you could amend the burge rto your liking before tucking in, while the fries came in a cup. Quality wise, we both thought our meals were average, nothing spectacular. The portions of the burgers were quite small, while the fries tasted like a mix of Curly Fries and standard chips if that makes sense? They were a good portion however and bigger in size that American fries you get from the supermarket. Defintley worth giving Harvey's a go, especially while their Winter offer deal is running, but it may impress you more if you order the more expensive meals you can't get from other restraunts in the area.

Great Orme Visitor Centre - Llandudno

Great Orme, Llandudno, Wales LL30 2XG

12-09-2012

Once you've reached the summit of the Great Orme, you can visit the Visitor Centre, where admission is free. It includes interactive displays, an educational film, models and plenty of displays to read which cover the history of the Orme, how it was formed and details about the local wildlife.

There is another gift shop here, which offers different items to the one in the main complex.

Great Orme Summit Complex - Llandudno

Great Orme Country Park, Llandudno, Wales LL30 2XF

12-09-2012

The Summit Complex includes the following :-

The Captain's Table cafe
A very dated cafe which has a supermarket/works canteen style service. Very expensive prices. Usually packed with the eldery spending their pensions instead of familes who have to dig into their savings. Staff seemed friendly.

Gift Shop
A reasonably priced souvenir shop. Staff were very miserable.

Randolph Turpin Bar
A themed bar, dedicated to Randolph Turpin as the name suggests, who was a world middle weight boxer champion who used to own the Summit Complex. Plenty of pictures, articles and the odd bit of memorabilia are featured to keep things interesting if you choose to have a drink here.

The Olde Victorian Picture House
A place to get your picture taken in a Victorian or Western setting, with clothes to match. Also offers personalised gifts.

Rocky Pines Adventure Gold Course
An 18 hole crazy golf course. Didn't have time to play, but it looked like good fun. Costs £3 per person, per round.

There's also a children's play area outside.

Toilets are inside the complex, and are free to use. There is also a section which is packed with leaflets, promoting hotels, tourist attractions, taxi services and eateries, all the way from Anglesey to Wrexham. Never seen so many leaflets in one place before!

On my last visit, which was several years ago, I remember there being an amusement aracde here. Did I miss it, perhaps it was closed on my visit, or has it been removed for several years?

Bargain Book Time - Rhyl

3-5 High Street, Rhyl, Wales LL18 1ER

05-09-2012

Nice little book shop, quite similar to Publisher Book Clearance outlets. Quite a variety of books on show, with the obligatory 3 for £5 section, and you can find some books for as little as one pound. Plenty of room for customers.

It's worth mentioning that they stock quite a few Marvel, DC & other graphic novels and collections, so if you're a comic book fan this shop could become a favourite stop off.
