Southern Taxis (U K) - Brighton

Top tip - if you get off the train at Brighton Station and there is a long queue for the taxis run down the road for 30 seconds and order one in this rank ! They usually can get you one really quickly ! In fact, they often have cabs outside waiting.
The 'rank’ actually consists of a waiting room with an intercom where you can talk with someone in an office. Have always thought it a bit strange that you never actually speak to anyone face to face (I assume they are actually in the same building and not answering from somewhere else !)
If there isn’t a taxi available there are a couple of seats so you can wait indoors. A bonus if it’s late and and/or cold.
Fares are predictably expensive - but no more than any other Brighton taxi company (in fact, there are none in the area that I know of that are notably cheaper !)
Snappy Snaps Franchises - Brighton
40 North Street, Brighton BN1 1RH

Don’t waste your time looking for this as it’s gone ! Much to my dismay (as it was the best developers for miles !) it closed down a couple of years ago. Found another one to go to in London and that has recently closed down too ! Not sure if the franchises run anymore. Such a shame if they don’t.
Sindydoll thanks for the headsup Irenie..I too was trying to track these guys down & seems they’re still listed there in december 2012!

As an adult this isn’t my favourite stables in Brighton. I can only ride at weekends and the weekend facilities on offer by this stables are primarily geared towards children (am I the only adult who doesn’t have time off work in the week ? !!)
There is also a tendancy to do group lessons at the weekend as opposed to individual ones (which again are primarily geared towards children).
That said the stables are handy for accessing from Brighton and they are chepaer than some of their competitors. The stables are clean and well managed and the horses are well kept and healthy.

Contrary to the previous review I can confirm that this pub is in Brighton - I worked just across the road from it for nearly 5 years !
It’s a really nice little pub which does a great lunch ! It’s always really friendly and I only stopped going in there regularly because I changed jobs ! Bar doesn’t offer anything particularly out of the ordinary.
Admittedly it isn’t the most vibrant and exciting place to go in Brighton - but is a great laid back venue if you want to catch up with a friend.
Pizza King - Brighton
42 Kings Road, Brighton BN1 1NA
20-01-2009
This is one of two Pizza King branches in Brighton (the other being in Preston Street).
It really does get five stars in my book ! With a constant two for one offer on pizza’s it really does hit the spot after a night out. The pizza’s are cooked to order and are served to you absolutely boiling hot ! Make sure you don’t burn your mouth on melted cheese !
It’s open until the early hours. Not sure what time it closes (or even if it ever closes ? !) but I’ve definitely been in there after leaving a club at about 3 am. This branch in particular (being in the centre of town and near a number of clubs) attracts the weirdest and most wonderful characters ! In fact, on some nights going here has provided more entertainment than my actual night out !
Staff never seem to be tired and are always chirpy ! Pay them a visit !
Bankers Fish Restaurant - Brighton
116a Western Road, Brighton BN1 2AB

Really large fish and chip restaurant in the centre of Brighton. Also has a traditional take away service if you prefer this.
I always find it disappointing that despite being a seaside town Brighton has such awful fish and chip shops. Bankers is by no means the worse (and is in fact one of the better ones) but still doensn’t do anything that will blow you away.
Menu is traditional. Prices are a little on the high side. I’ve been there a couple of times on larger work do’s and the service is questionable. Portions tend to be on the small size.
I wouldn’t dismiss it - but equally I wouldn’t go out of my way to go there.
Buddys - Brighton
50 Kings Road, Brighton BN1 1NA
20-01-2009
This is one of the best places to go after a night out. Open until the early hours this cafe/restaurant serves a great selection of meals and snacks ranging from burgers, pastas and steaks.
Buddys is, of course, open during the day/early evening - but it’s at night that it really comes alive.
Is situated in the Kings Road and has a direct view of Brighton Beach/the English Channel. Lots of seats inside but also an outside seating area during the summer.
Service is really friendly (especially given the number of drunk customers they have to serve !) although can be slow if they are busy.
Prices are “restaurant” prices - so probably best not to go there if all you want is a cheap take away burger.
Well worth a visit.
Istanbul BBQ - Brighton
125 Western Road, Brighton BN1 2AD

It’s not the swankiest take away in the world - but the food always hits the spot ! Situated in Western Road it’s an ideal stop off point when you are on the way home from the pub (provided you live that way of course !)
Take away menu is basic - kebabs, burgers and fries - but the food is freshly cooked and given to you steaming hot. Always a bonus !
Prices are reasonable and the staff are really friendly. There are a few seats inside - but in true take away style I prefer to take mine with me and eat it walking home (totally classy !)
KFC (Kentucky Fried Chicken) - Brighton
63 Western Road, Brighton BN1 2HA
20-01-2009
It’s not from Kentucky and it’s certainly not chicken. But it is fried. I suppose one out of three isn’t bad ….. !
I can’t not admit that in the past I have enjoyed a KFC - but the last time I had one in here it really was one of the most revolting things I had eaten ! Fast food standards really have gone down !
The restaruant is large and can get packed. As the name suggests they sell a variety of fried chicken products - mainly burgers, fillets, nuggets and wraps. Doesn’t really matter what you pick as it all just has the same greasy, salty taste.
Oh, and they also do chips ! Really nasty ones !
I appreciate it is cheap - and if you go for one of their “buckets” you do get a lot for your money - but it really is a case of quantity over quantity !
Subway - Brighton
109 Queens Road, Brighton BN1 3XF

Arguably better for you than a burger - but still has that horrid artificial fast food atmosphere when you are in any of their outlets.
I know that I am in a minority when I say that I don’t like their food (as other people I know rave about them). Bread is cheap and processed and fillings are of poor quality. Every filling seems to taste the same - cold, wet and bland. Their recent television commercial sells their product as being a low fat food - but I’m still not convinced that this makes them any better for you. Low fat doesn’t have to equate to no taste.
This branch isn’t far from the station so it is handy to pick something up on the way to or from a train journey. But to be honest there are better options in the area.
