11-03-2008

Eclipse is a group of modern cocktail bars based across South West London. They serve a range of drinks in hip environment, with regular DJs. With its elegant interior and leather banquettes, this branch serves as an ideal venue for an intimate evening with friends or loved ones. They also serve a variety of salads and Japanese dishes throughout the day and night. Catering for private parties of up to 65 guests is available upon request.

Cambridge Theatre - Covent Garden

32-34 Earlham Street, London WC2 9HU

15-11-2007

The slick and witty musical relating the story of two chorus girls convicted for murder and enlist the help of a shady lawyer in an attempt to getaway with their heinous crimes is exciting, sexy and full of show-stopping tunes.
I was so gripped by the graphic scenes that I almost forgot that I was bursting to go to the Ladies.

Lyric Hammersmith - Hammersmith

Lyric Square, King Street, Hammersmith, London W6 0QL

15-11-2007

This is a quite a nice little theatre to go and watch something like Cabaret. The play set in pre-war Berlin is about free-spirited Sally Bowles a singer in a Cabaret Spot called the The Kit Kat Club who is and out of trouble as tension mounts in East Berlin. I think Liza Minelli was good when she did the film but the more realistic version is much better.

Victoria Palace Theatre - Westminster

Victoria Street, Victoria , London SW1E 5JX

15-11-2007

A few weeks ago I went with some friends to see Billy Elliot-the musical and I must say I was really very impressed because the production side was absolutely superb. It kept myself and my group of friends gripped to their seats. The potrayl of Billy Elliot and his tryannical father was an absolute delight to watch.

London Duck Tours - Waterloo

55 York Road, Waterloo, London SE1 7NJ

14-11-2007

I think instead of touring London by buses, tubes, rails or cars why not give the London Duck Tours Amphibious Vehicles a try. Fair enough you will have to trudge up to the South-East side but the exercise will do you good.
I have been on one of these and the journey is more than just sightseeing-its more of an exciting road and river adventure that puts James Bond movies to shame.
The quacking vehicles take a drive from Chicheley Street going past places like the Houses of Parliament,Big Ben and Trafalagar Sq before taking a very dramatic launch into River Thames from the slipway at Vauxhall Bridge for the water borne part of the 75 minute trip. For 15 pounds you get lots of entertainment, action and riveting commentary by the highly trained tour guides.

Icarus you have some great reviews here. i gave you some points. hope you are well :)

Lebanon Express - Notting Hill

186 Portobello Rd, London W11 2ED

14-11-2007

I was attending a meeting in Portobello Rd which carried on a for a bit and when I came out in the cold and dark in desperate need of some food and refreshments. After wandering looking along Portobello Rd and trying to decide where to eat I settled on the the Lebanese Express because the window display looked good and the price of the buffet 2.99 sounded reasonable.
Anyway I am glad I ate there because although the cafe/eateri was really small, the service was short and sweet and the food plain and simple and heat hot just the way I like it on a cold winter's evening it filled me up and I was satisfied.
For that price you can only pile up your takeaway dish once but the rices dishes,Aubergines dish,Chicken curry and the lasagne were nice to tuck into.

Afghan Kitchen - Islington

35 Islington Green, Islington, London N1 8DU

11-11-2007

AFGHAN KITCHEN-although lacking in any traditional Afghan designs or motifs is a pleasent enough place to eat in at any time of the day. The Jade-Green Walls, shared Pine-tables and lots of light create an atmosphere of being honest and sincere.

The menu is not very extensive -it consists of 4 meat dishes and 4 vegetarian dishes all pre-prepared and very mild tasting often featuring yoghurt as one its main ingredients. I had the Lamb with Spinach which was flavourful, succulent and very filling. The vegetarian dishes are very similar to Tapas in terms of ingredients were ample.
Its a good idea to eat at the Afghan Kitchen in a large group because the establishment's style of serving dishes means that you are going to get through copius amount of Pumpkin with spiced Yoghurt-it is tasty but can get repetitive. In my opinion it is better suited as a side dish, but in Afghanistan thats how they serve it. The bowls of fluffy rice and warm fresh bread are an excellent way to mop up any of the juices that are left over on your plate.
Afhan Kitchen is no place to linger because not only does it get overcrowded but the staff are hard to engage in polite conversation. I think its a good standby for a quick cheap bite - a change from the norm i.e English greasy spoon cafe food or the fish and chip shop.

London Canal Museum - Kings Cross

12-13 New Wharf Road, King's Cross, London N1 9RT

11-11-2007

There is no better way to relieve traumas and stresses of everyday life by taking a canal boat ride along London's Waterways. I think you will be very surprised to find that canal cruises can be theraputic, relaxing and a very idllyic way to see some of the wild-life in and around the Capital.

Having been on one myself I was really surprised to find how the canal trip offers access to wonderful scenery and a whole world of wild-life that you would otherwise be unable to see.

The London Canal Museum is also worth a visit because the exhibits depict the history of canal development in London. There are several companies that run boats along Regent Canal,Little Venice with its quaint riverside cafes and pubs to Camden Town with its bustling markets. There is also a historic tour of canals around the King's Cross and East End areas. Some the the tours also stop at London Zoo.

MartinSA Thanks for the review! On selected summer Sundays the museum offers tunnel boat trips from museum through Islington Tunnel and back.

Phoenix Theatre - Soho

110 Charing Cross Road, London WC2H 0JP

BLOOD BROTHERS, written by the legendary Willy Russell, tells the capitivating and mysterious tale of twins who were seperated at birth. The moving and graphic depiction of how they grew up on the differing sides of life kept me gripped to my seat-it was so interesting that I did not want to miss a moment of the play.
The brothers eventually do meet up when they are a lot older with very tragic consequences. The musical score includes many musical numbers like Bright New Day,Marilyn Monroe and the emotionally charged song Tell Me Its Not True.
Blood Brothers has been hailed as one of the best musicals in London, picking up awards 4 awards for the Best Musical and 7 Tony Awards nominations on Broadway. At present the show is in its 20th year and I think it will be staying for a lot longer.

Nags Head - Covent Garden

10 James Street, Covent Garden, London WC2E 8BT

11-11-2007

This particular pub is a firm favourite with the locals of Covent Garden. Just a stone's throw from the tube station it delivers an unpretentious, relaxed and very lively pub vibe enjoyed by all. You can mingle at the bar,the atmosphere and the tunes are superb, having been carefully selected for an harmonious ambience. If you want to enjoy yourself then do get in early because when the surrounding offices empty-the venue gets very busy.

The pub has an excellent selection of Ales like Erdinger Weissbrau,Worthington Cream Flow and other favourites like Heineken,Guinness and Fosters.

When I joined my group of friends last week, between us we thought that the Spainish White Rioja was a great aperitif before we tore into some hearty pub fare. They do serve some very homey dishes like fish and chips, bangers and mash, steak and salad and tasty burgers absolutely ideal now that it is cold. Also checkout the SpecialsBoard because they have good grub on offer as well.
For an entree we devoured a huge plate of Nachos served with all the usual toppings-simple but very, very tasty; and the addictive Mediterranean dips and Pitta platter. The Hummous,Tzatziki and Tarasmalata were freshly prepared and very high quality. All
our main courses were large-the most favourites being the Cajun Burger,Steak, Salad and Chunky Chips.
