Nirmals - Sheffield

189-193 Glossop Road, Sheffield, South Yorkshire S10 2GW

20-12-2012

I ordered a Chicken Balti, they did ask how would I like it I said medium. It seemed to be a very long wait until the food was placed on the table I reckon about 45 minutes. It was quite a small portion and although it did taste good it wasn't spicy enough, I didn't bother saying that I want the balti hot as I thought that restaurants do usually cook curries much more spicier than say pub and microwavable curries. Lets just say that if I said mild It probably would not have been spicy at all. For a medium balti it was very mild, but again it was nice. The naan bread was also small (compared to other places).

My friend very much enjoyed what he had and he said that he would be going back here, but i'm undecided but if I did go back I would choose something different maybe a madras.

There was also a £3 charge for the service charge, when we were waiting they put down 2 small starters,  one being chopped onions (with an added herb) we did not ask for these, and thought it was rather cheeky of them for even charging us with it, but looking at other reviews for Nirmals they seem to do it with everyone.

If you do go here and want something rather spicy I would get something a tad hotter than what you usually go for.

concord pizza - Sheffield

Elm Lane, Lane Top, Sheffield, South Yorkshire

20-12-2012

If a take away has a specific food name in their shop name you would have thought that they specialize in the certain food. Concord Pizza based at Sheffield Lane Top are the worst pizza's I have ever tried from a take away in fact most oven pizza's are miles better than these. I was not the only one my dad also said the same, the pizzas are very bad, awful in fact. I would avoid this place even if there is no where else open and you fancy some pizza. Most of the 2 medium pizzas went in the bin money wasted !

It was quite a while when I had pizza from here, but I will never go again.

betty's traditional Fish and Chips - Sheffield

Fitzwilliam Street, Sheffield, South Yorkshire S1 4JR

20-12-2012

I have walked passed here quite a few times and thought I wouldn't mind trying some of their fish and chips, surely they have to be better than Devonshire chippy fish and chips ?

The chippy is located in the centre of Sheffield's night life, there are quite a few pubs and clubs surrounding 'Betty's traditional fish and chips' I always wondered though how come it's always empty or just 1 person in. Now I know why.

The cod and chips cost £4.95 (average price) the cod was the flattest fish I have ever had, and the chips ? all cut in different sizes as you can tell with the photo. There were quite a few bad chips and just didn't look appetizing at all but actually tasted better than what they looked, but still naff. The fish had a strange taste to it I think it was the batter but the cod didn't look pure white it was a dull white. I only could eat half of the fish and chips the rest went into the bin ! Still hungry after.

Seriously avoid this place, I certainly will and will never go back unless it has a new ownership with a 5 star review from a newspaper. The arabic looking fryer and till guy was friendly though.  But the fish and chips were appalling. £4.95 was very expensive for rubbish fish and chip (oh I also had a few scraps on).

Hui Wei - Sheffield

221 Glossop Road, Sheffield, South Yorkshire S10 2GW

20-12-2012

I heard that this was a great Chinese restaurant from reviews with top ratings so thought of trying it out.

Me and 3 friends went to Hui Wei. I booked a table. Hui Wei is quite a large restaurant, there were quite a few tables but because we booked a table the friendly welcomer took us to one of there better tables, a rounded table.

Some people say it's expensive but it's in the City Centre where the rates are sky high. The restaurant itself looks great it has an authentic Chinese touch about it, it's slick it looks expensive. They also have a piano inside and someone was playing on it.

I ordered a Duck with ginger and spring onion dish which was £9 + boiled rice £2. Most of the dishes are between £8-£11. The food didn't take long at all for them to cook it, I reckon we waited 15-20 mins. The food was outstanding and we all gave our meals 10/10. I can't remember what my friends had but we all enjoyed it. The duck was cooked to perfection, I did think though that the pieces were slightly too big and because they don't have knifes you have to cut it in half with your spoon or fork.  You also can use traditional chop sticks. They don't do chips, but when you taste of how the rice tastes you actually automatically go off the idea of having chips with the dish anyway, the rice was great tasting nice and fluffy, and again cooked to perfection.

The staff here are possibly without a doubt the most friendliest I have met, always smiling and all who we passed on our way out said thank you. I will definitely be coming back here. Great food, great people, great place to eat in.

wooden spoon (Snack place) - Sheffield

Brightside Lane, Sheffield, South Yorkshire S13 9

22-03-2012 (updated on 20-12-2012)

About 5 years ago I was driving past this snack / sandwich hut, and thought I could just eat a bacon and tomato sandwich, pulled up walked down then I got back in the van, I am not sure if it is the same snack hut but I’ve just been on google maps and it looks the same. Avoid this place! I almost went back and demanded my money back the bacon was rock hard and hardly edible. I was in a rush and did not have the time to go back I threw most of it in the bin. I have not been here since.

Tasteez - Sheffield

i've only tried their pizza's and what can I say? Absolutely delicoius! and great value! ANY 10 inch pizza costs just £3.50! and any 12 inch pizza costs just £5 however these special prices won't last long at all, this is a fairly new take away so they are doing the right thing at gaining customers with special prices. Perhaps the best pizza's i've had!

I have now tasted their Chicken and Chips - and they are great. Still 5/5 overall.

Wheatley's Fish & Chips - Sheffield

32 Manor Lane, Sheffield, South Yorkshire S2 1UF

31-05-2012 (updated on 20-12-2012)

Been passed this chippy many times and they are usually closed, someone said to me that this is the best chippy in Sheffield so one Friday afternoon I pulled up outside and got some fish and chips, quite simply outstanding especially for a Sheffield chippy as there are hardly any decent chippy's in Sheffield. The price was quite fair as well £4.20 for standard cod and chips. I will definatley be going back here

Millenium Spices - Sheffield

25 Longley Avenue West, Sheffield, South Yorkshire S5 8WA

31-07-2012 (updated on 24-08-2012)

I ordered a Chicken balti (my favorite indian dish, if it's done right) and a naan bread. It came to £6.40 which is average price. The balti was extremely delicious, it was just right not too hot and not too mild. It was cooked perfect to the highest order.

My review is just of the balti that I had recently, but i'll definitely be trying their other curries in the future.

(Aug 2012) - I have now downgraded this place from a 5/5 now a 4/5 because I had a balti again and it was not a patch on the first balti that I had, It was still nice though but there was something missing about it, obviously there are 2 chefs. The meat tastes great though. Same with a lot of take-aways - they should all be trained up to cook a dish the same not totally different!

Happy House - Sheffield

914 City Road, Sheffield, South Yorkshire S2 1GQ

22-08-2012

This place can vary, sometimes the dish can be delicious and the next time it's under average obviously there are 2 main chefs here and one is better than the other.

The picture is duck with plumb sauce with of course chips, the time when I took the picture I thoroughly enjoyed the dish however I got the same dish about 2 weeks after and the duck was extremely fatty, the sauce seemed different as well, there were more fat then meat. Chow Main dishes can vary as well once it's nice the other time it's not nice. Half of the chow main went in the bin as it was all dried up and no sauce.

Zeenat - Sheffield

762-764 Attercliffe Road, Sheffield, South Yorkshire S9 3RQ

22-08-2012

I went here once it's quite a large resturant and felt out of place as we were the only people in having a meal. I can't remember what I had but it was just average it was also a small portion, still hungry after I finished.
