Jacks Of London - Birmingham

19 Temple Street, Birmingham, West Midlands B2 5BG

20-08-2007

Until recently the only place I got my hair cut in Birmingham was 'Supercuts'. This was only because it was fairly cheap but to be honest, I was rarely satisfied with the butchering my hair would recieve there. 'Jacks of London' is similar in price and if you are a student you can get a discount (on certain days) via the 'student beans' website. So far my experience of this place has been positive. With a plush interior, relaxed atmosphere and free beers even if you don't like the job they do on your hair you're likely to be in a good enough mood not to mind.

The Mailbox - Birmingham

61 Wharfside Street, Birmingham, West Midlands B1 1RE

18-08-2007

The Mailbox is Birmingham's sleek, up market version of the Bullring. With stores such as Harvey Nichols and a Nicky Clark salon it isn't for anyone on a budget. If you walk through the shopping center you exit into a stunning canalside square with various restaurants and bars. Well worth a visit even if you can't afford to buy anything!

Deep Blue Restaurants - Kingston upon Thames

14 High Street, London KT1 1EY

18-08-2007

Simply the best fish and chips in the area. Formerly award-winning fish and chip shop, 'Hooks', I was dubious when the place changed owners, name and decor but it still remains a great place to eat.

The Lot - Richmond

1 Duke Street, London TW9 1HP

18-08-2007

Hidden in a quiet back alley of Richmond town, 'The Lot' is a spacious, student friendly bar. It is cheap and being a 'scream bar' it runs the yellow card scheme. Sign up for one as you'll benefit from cheap drinks. The video jukebox is also well worth closer inspection.

Dragon BBQ - Birmingham

Unit 6 Broadway Plaza Ladywood Middleway, Birmingham, West Midlands B16 8EQ

18-08-2007

This place was recommended to me so I was a little disappointed to find that the food was not particularly special. The 'all you can eat' buffet has got a great selection and it is reasonably priced so it's not all bad.

Yoyo - Birmingham

7 Ethel Street, Birmingham, West Midlands B2 4BG

18-08-2007

A great place to look for cheap, vintage clothing. A little on the small side however if you're prepared to dig around you can find some treasures.

Philpotts - Birmingham

Broadway Plaza Ladywood Middleway, Birmingham, West Midlands B16 8EQ

18-08-2007

Situated seconds away from a 'Subway', 'Philpotts' provides an up market alternative to the fast food garbage that passes for edible there. A little more expensive, but well worth the money. With all sorts of freshly cooked meats (not the plastic kind!) these really are gourmet sandwiches.

The Munch Box - Twickenham

38 London Road, London TW1 3RR

18-08-2007

As the sole reason for me making it into college everyday, I owe much to this sandwich store. Being 10 minutes walk from Richmond College, 'The Munch Box' is renown amoung students for providing cheap, fast, friendly service and great custom made sandwiches.

The Peel - Kingston upon Thames

2 Hampden Road, Norbiton, London KT1 3HH

18-08-2007

A great place to rehearse, if a little expensive. As a music venue, it stands up, however the acts they choose to put on are sometimes questionable.

Oceana Nightclub - Kingston upon Thames

154 Clarence Street, London KT1 1QP

17-08-2007

Being one of the biggest clubs in London, 'Oceana' in Kingston could be a great place for a night out. Unfortunately it is ruined by the ridiculous amount of what can only be described as 'chavs'. It's one redeeming quality is how cheap it is.
