    Thekla

1pxt JasmineClara last updated on 23-04-2009:

I didnt go to Thekla on a night out, I’d spent my evening drinking on some other ship and ended up on Thekla because the other place stopped serving.
First impressions were good, I like the lay out etc. but it wasnt very busy…as in me, my friends and about 5 other people on board (including the barman!)

Since leaving Bristol however, the name Thekla keeps coming up. Acts like Alice Russell, The Maccabees and Andrew Bird are lined up to play and Im desperate to go back!

    Meze Lounge

1pxt JasmineClara last updated on 23-04-2009:

I went to Newport to visit a friend fom uni. We went out with a group of his friends and they all told me Meze was the place to go in Newport (and who knows better than the locals?!)
Being a student, I asked the barman what the cheapest drinks were…snakebite! £2.00! Bargain!

Before I’d even got half way though my first pint one of the people I wasout with leaned into me and shouted in my ear “if you want to have a good night you’d better down the rest of that”
I did down the rest of my drink, had a few shots and got quite drunk…and yes! I had a good night!
Meze isnt very big but its big enough. Theres a few decent seating areas, at least 2 bars, 2 dance floors and probably one of the best smoking areas Ive been in.
Not bad at all! I’d deffinately head back here if I found myself in Newport again :)

    The Roebuck Tavern

1pxt JasmineClara last updated on 17-02-2009:

I came to Sheffield for the museum…but the museum didnt take that long to look around so I decided to go for a drink and this is the first pub I stumbled across (very central!)

My friends ordered food. The portions were good and I heard no complaints about taste!
Theres 2 pool tables. The toilets are very clean.
    Its all good!

Only problem is minor. One of the bar maids was a bit of a bitch. We decided to have a few shots before heading off to the next museum/art gallery (bells was about £3.00 for a double) we were all just having some fun and after a round or 2 of shots she decides to shout over the bar 'if your sick I’m not gonna clear it up!’ tsshhh….sick?! Nah! Kind of wish I could vomit on que just so that snotty lady would have to clean it up.

    Either way! Good pub!

    Dv8

1pxt JasmineClara last updated on 31-01-2009:

This is supposed to be a gay bar but Ive heard alot of people call it 'DV-straight’ instead of DV8 because of the amount of straight people that go there.

We paid 7 or 8 pounds to get in and that meant that drinks were free all night. This was great because I didnt have to worry about money or spilling my drink etc.
Only problem is they ran out of vodka. Not so much of a problem though…we just switched over to whisky instead!

Theres a couple of different rooms and a courtyard for the smokers. Theres a few bars dotted around but they are all quite small so a bit hard to find through the people if you dont know the layout of the place.

Cloakroom only cost a pound and there was no que to put my stuff in there or to get it back.

There were some guys dancing on bars wearing only little pants. It kind of reminded me of some strippers bar in Prague! haha!

It was a fun night. I’d go back again.

    Tequila Red

1pxt JasmineClara last updated on 26-01-2009:

Came here for a friends birthday a few months ago. It wasnt as busy as when it first opened.
Im not too sure about the DIY mexican themed decor in the restraunt but the food makes up for any decorating mishaps.
The food presentation is good and the portions are huge.
Everybody enjoyed what they ordered (apart from the birthday girl, but that wasnt because of the food…it was due to the amount she celebrated the night before!)

Oh, and the tequila is pretty cheap. The one with the worm is a bit more expensive…but who wants to eat a worm? I mean…really?! a worm???

    Urban Pie

1pxt JasmineClara last updated on 23-01-2009:

    I love Urban Pie!
Theres so many tasty pies…if I started listing them I think my taste bubs would go crazy and I’d have to go eat pie today! I usually settle for a good old angus beef and ale pie but theres loads - like chicken & asparagus, winter vegetable, roast dinner (with stuffing ontop instead of pastry!).... oooh what am I doing to myself….I want pie!!!
After 5pm all pies are half price. Selected beers are half price too. The extras stay the same price but the mash potatoe is well worth the money and they are very generous with the portions. Gravy is free. The way they serve it is handy too…they serve it all in a box, then if your eating out or eating in once your sat down and readyto tuck in just fold the sides down and its a perfect make shift plate! Sounds good huh?

All the tables and benches are wooden and theres a kind of german feel to the place. Its nice.

    Stafford Castle

1pxt JasmineClara last updated on 14-12-2008: (updated on 26-01-2009)

review by fairybex has confused me.
The castle is very well sign posted and is directly off one of the main roads.
At the entrance the parking is directly to your left (also sign posted) if there is an event happening (shakespeare or rock and blues at the castle etc) they open up a large field to the right of the entrance as extra parking space.

There is a little tourist information type shop and in the summer theres a little place that sells ice creams and drinks too.
There ar public toilets, a lovely herb garden and 2 routes up to the castle. One is a direct gravel path straight to the castle (not steep but can get tiring) and one route with information boards dotted around that tell you about the history of the castle and how it was built.

The view from the castle is nice, can see all over Stafford. Im not sure what the opening times are for the castle, but generally its open quite alot of the time and its free to get in.

    Sutton Tools

1pxt JasmineClara last updated on 27-11-2008:

Suttons are known for selling quality tools. They are slightly more expensive than other tool suppliers but with certain tools you need to know your buying the best (where as a ruler is a ruler and you just buy it from the cheapest place!)

Most of the staff are very friendly and helpfull.

They do a 10% student discount.

1pxt JasmineClara last updated on 27-11-2008:

Small shop but huge selection. Heels, boots, trainers, connies, sandals, dolly shoes… you name it and chances are they will have it. The staff were very busy but well organised and reasonably attentive.

I bought an amazing pair of boots from here. They only had one pair in my size and they had a scratch in the leather so they got my details and ordered me in a new pair. I had the choice of them being delivered to my work, uni, home, or the shop. I chose for them to be delivered to the shop and they sent me a text and and email to let me know they had arrived just 2 or 3 days later. Great service.

Oh…and the boots really are amazing :)

Firstly I want to point out that it is free so well worth a nosey even if your not that into art.
Theres such a wide range of stuff here you can easily spend a whole afternoon here just wandering about.
At the moment theres a local project about hair and idenity,
    old paintings/sletches/sculptures.
Theres interactive things for children like costumes, masks and replica models of statues that they can hold and feel.
There are displays on different cultures and styles from around the world. Finds from excevations (like a jerusalem tomb… I think?) Old oil greek and roman oil lamps….loads of stuff!
Deffinately worth a visit, even if you only have a spare half hour.
