The Olive Tree - Romsey

11 Latimer Street, Romsey, Hampshire SO51 8DF

25-01-2010

On a recent trip to Romsey for lunch with a friend we decided The Olive Tree looked like a great place to grab a bite to eat in comfort. It's a lovely looking place and has quite a comfortable and cosy feel to it. The menu although not huge offered a big enough for variety for your average customer. We both ended up going for meals of the specials menu which sounded particularly yummy!

We ordered our food and a couple of drinks and sat down to chat while we waited for our food to arrive. Having a catch up we had much to talk about and didn't notice the time at first but the rumbling tummy helped remind me the food had been a while. In fact it had been about 40 minutes! There weren't really any staff about and then somebody appeared with food, popped my order in front of me and then my friend said that it wasn't what she ordered so took it away to get hers. Luckily I didn't start eating, as 2 minutes later he was back to take mine off me and tell me that both dishes were for other tables and mine was still in the kitchen! Eventually 10 minutes later I complained and mentioned we'd been waiting an hour and still had no food! He apologised and said we're busy - there were/had been about 15 people in there max, 4 of which had eaten and left in the time we were waiting!

Food arrived 5 minutes later, it was quite tasty, value for money but I'd advise you only go there if you want to work up a hunger as you wait for your food! Disappointed the also didn't offer much of an apology or a free drink or anything.

La Lupa - Southampton

After my second visit to this restaurant I'm certain it is a lovely place to eat. The staff who have served my table are very friendly and helpful as on both occasions we have had children to feed. They do a good dinner menu deal for cheaper lunches. It's a bit more costly in the evening but the food is of a very good quality and cooked extremely well. They also were very helpful in providing me with a pizza that I could eat as I am allergic to cheese. Very friendly and warm atmosphere.

Rootz Hair & Beauty Salon - Southampton

197-201 Shirley Road, Southampton, Hampshire SO15 3FJ

I decided it was time for a big change with my hair and couldn't get to a previously used salon for a skin test so had to think local! Rootz was within a decent walking distance and they were very accommodating fitting me in on the day I wanted and at a decent time. The staff were very friendly, knew exactly what they were doing, were very attentive and did a fantastic job. I am so pleased with the results the hairdresser did I will definitely be going back there next time I need a trim. What made it even better was the reasonable pricing, my hair was of such a good quality but only about two thirds of the price I would pay for the same thing elsewhere. Great value for money, highly recommended!

The Admiral Sir Lucius Curtis - Southampton

Canutes Pavilion, Ocean Village, Southampton, Hampshire SO14 3TU

I chose to eat out with friends at this pub recently mainly due to its very convenient positioning and the reasonable prices found in all J.D Wetherspoon pubs. It has recently reopened under the Wetherspoons brand and has been transformed visually but I was left sorely disappointed with the service in this particular pub. We placed our order at 7.20pm and were still without food at 8pm, we spoke to a waitress who apologised and fetched the person who took our order, with a quick peep at our receipt she made her apologies and rushed to the kitchen to get our order. It was clear she had forgotten to place our order with the kitchen rather than there being a delay in the kitchen as the pub was only a quarter full at best! She returned with the 2 meals but one of them was wrong, I asked to have the correct burger brought out because although she had bought a more expensive version of my order out I was allergic to the extra content hence me not ordering it in the first place! She rushed back to the kitchen and back again with what she said was new meal but I didn’t trust her and took off the burger bun to discover that all they had done is removed the extras on top of the burger and tried to scrape out the cheese sauce (the bit I am allergic to). It was at this point I took my complaint straight to the bar and decided to make a bit more of a fuss about the situation. The waiter did offer a free drink and sorted out my meal himself but I finally received my meal an hour after ordering and think this is a very poor way to run food service!

Innervision Hair & Beauty - Southampton

118 Portswood Road, Southampton, Hampshire SO17 2FY

This is a lovely place to come and get your hair or beauty treatments done. I will not have my hair cut anywhere else as I completely trust them to do a fantastic job. The staff are all very friendly and offer a very professional service to their customers. You get your coat taken and hung up for you and then there are a wide choice of drinks to have whilst being pampered. The prices are very reasonable for the service you receive, it’s not overpriced and the quality is high.

Peacocks Stores - Southampton

253 Portswood Road, Southampton, Hampshire SO17 2NG

Peacocks is a great place for affordable fashion that also carries a high quality and standard that cannot always be matched by it’s biggest competitors. You can pick some very on trend shoes and accessories too and people will never know unless of course you tell them just how cheap it all was! They do a lovely range for children at reasonable prices which is very handy when they grow out of it so quickly. I’d highly recommend Peacocks for all the family needs, both basic and fashion.
