Not that great I'm afraid. We shared the mixed seafood starter which consisted of battered squid which was ok a softshell crab that left a weird aftertaste and battered prawns with the shell still on, probably very authentic but a pain to peel. Mains of shaking beef luc lac was good, flavourful and tender whereas duck with mangetout and pak choi was a bit bland. Service was ok but not very attentive and rice with mains arrived only after reminding them twice. There are lots of other better place on Kingsland road a five minutes walk away.

Olive Restaurant - Bethnal Green

Excellent new Restaurant in an area much in need of somewhere decent to eat. The place is stylish, dark wood with touches of funkyness in flowery (in a good way) wall paper and lighting fixtures and is open all day from breakfast until dinner.
The surroundings look still a bit rough around the edges what with all the construction going on, or not, but that's more than made up by the quality of what is on offer. A meal for three including starters and 2 bottles of water came to £65 including tip. The menu is broadly mediterranean and covers Morocco to Cyprus via Italy. Everything we had was delicious. A Moroccan Soup, Filo wrapped Cypriot cheese pastries, grilled haloumi or Tiger prawns were all delicious. Mains we had included monkfish, chicken breast and lamb and were all lovely and came with grilled vegetables and with an extra salad instead of the carb sides normally on offer.
All in all a very decent meal, very affordable with pleasant service to boot.

A group of 5 people we booked the Schubert Apartment through friendlyrentals. At roughly 3000 Euro for a week we expected a nice flat which was delivered. However there were two big down sides:
First of all the apartment is under the attic and is described as having air condition. This is true only for the master bedroom and the living room. The other 4 bedrooms have no aircon and 3 of these don’t even have an outside windows. This made sleeping in June almost impossible so we camped in the living room. We were not helped by friendly rentals, who should specify this clearly in their description. Also the three smaller bedrooms are very pokey indeed.
There was also no wifi as described. Repeated calls to friendly rentals were friendly if totally useless. “It’s a problem we have with Apple” never mind that no matter what hard ware failed in our trials.
Very annoyed overall as we could have all stayed in nice 4 star hotels for less money and with enough sleep. The flat as such is very nice but unusable outside winter for everyone but the people in the master bedroom.

In Barcelona on a Sunday afternoon with most restaurants in my area closed. Qype at the ready. There seems to be a all you can eat order of the menu policy with most Japanese restaurants in the area. I was hungry so off we go. Food was ok nothing to write home about. Sashimi were mere slivers of ok salmon and tuna. Had to ask for wasabi separately. The sushi were a bit light on the fish and heavy on the rice. The only real let down was the seaweed salad which was nigh inedible but the beef steak bits were nice. Overall filling but a bentobox at Satsuma is tastier and much more stylish for less money.

Great food, excellent value for money.
This along with Green Papaya down the road is my favourite Vietnamese in London. Incredible variety of dishes. I normally manage to nibble at at least 5 different species during a meal.
Highly recommended are:
Beef in betel leaves,
the pan cakes,
the shredded duck salad and the pork in soy sauce. But to be honest I have never had a bad dish here and that includes the chicken feet salad.

Nice decor and service has always been great. What is bugging me here though is that food is never quite as good as one would hope for. Always a bit blander or less well executed than hoped for. Too top this off portion sizes tend to be very small. At a recent meal a starter of
smoked eel with beet root consisted of 4 small slivers of eel with roughly 6 microscopic cubes of beet root. Mains of beef from the rotisserie was alright if a bit chewy and rather a lot of gristle. All of this at 8£ for a starter and 16£ for mains makes for soso value for money. Still the place is lovely so come here for that.
