Dafna's Cheesecake Factory - Liverpool

240 Smithdown Road, Liverpool, Merseyside L15 5AH

29-11-2008

I’m such a big fan of Cheesecake that when I saw there was a cheesecak factory just along the road I was so excited. Then I went into the shop and the dream ended. The cakes are really quite expensive for what they are and they do not look impressive in the slightest. I would rather buy a Tesco finest cake and save £20 then get a cake in here. A slice costs about £5- I would expect quite a lot for that. They look like something anyone could bake.

penny lane shopping centre - Wavertree

church road, Liverpool, Merseyside L15 9ED

29-11-2008

This is a gem of a shopping centre hidden away behind Smithdown Road. It isn’t exactly a massive shopping centre but it has some great shops for all the convience products you need. If you are looking for a bargain, they have a Netto, Home Bargains and an Iceland. There is also a massive Superdrug with products at cheaper prices, as well as a few smaller, local shops. They are all right beside each other so you can spend Saturday afternoon in a quieter place than the city centre.

home bargains - Liverpool

Allerton, Liverpool, Merseyside L18 1LR

29-11-2008

I think Home Bargains is, in general, a great shop. It sells such a good range of things at a low price. For example, I found a bottle of Gallo Syrah rose for only £2.99- what a bargain! The Home Bargains on Allerton Road is a bit disappointing though. It just doesn’t have the range of stock that they city centre one has. And things seem just a little bit more expensive in this one. Still great for homeware though

wh smith - Liverpool

Allerton Road, Liverpool, Merseyside L18 3LN

29-11-2008

Wh Smith is not and will never be as good as Woolworths in my opinion. I’m sure they don’t serve the same market but Wooloworths sells similar items at a much lower price. The highlight of the WH Smith on Allerton is the funny automatic door. They do sell some nice, higher priced things- like a gorgeuous photo album and they always have the stationary you need.

woolworths - Liverpool

Allerton Road, Liverpool, Merseyside L18 1LN

I know that the store probably won’t be around much longer as it’s gone into administration but I thought I’d write a review about the Woolworths of Allerton road to show my support and say how good I think it is. Woolworths sells everything you can think of, maybe that has been it’s downfall, but I think it’s great. Allerton isn’t a huge area and so doesn’t have loads of shops but you can find everything in Woolworths. It’s so necessary for this area and with the credit crunch we need shops that sell items of a reasonable quality at low prices. This is a big, well stocked shop and will be much missed.

Ibis Hotel Liverpool - Liverpool

27 Wapping, Liverpool, Merseyside L1 8LY

29-11-2008

I will admit that I am quite easy to please on the hotel front, but I was so pleased by the Ibis. I stayed here for only one night in the summer having got £10 off and would happilt have stayed for many more. It only costs around £58 a night normally so you wouldn’t expect it to be luxury. The room was really big with a lovely view over the docks. The bathroom was huge and sparkingly clean. It’s a five minute walk from the Albert Docks and two minutes from Paradise Street Bus station. Great restaurant too.

formule 1 - Liverpool

25 Wapping, Liverpool, Merseyside L1 8LY

Formule 1 Hotel is £33 a night. Yes, you did hear right- £33 a night. That is every night of the week at all times of the year. It is such fantastic value. It is situated right on the Albert Docks, one minue walk from Paradise Street Bus station. The rooms are not enormous but they do sleep up to three people and they are imaculately clean, as are the bathrooms. The staff are so friendly and happy to help. The hotel shares a restaurant with the Ibis Hotel next door as they are part of the same group so you can eat there relatively cheaply.

The Dolby Hotel - Liverpool

36-42 Chaloner Street, Liverpool, Merseyside L3 4DE

29-11-2008

I don’t think the Dolby Hotel is part of the Accor hotel group but it’s very similar to the Etap and Formule 1 hotels in the group. It’s excellent value for money- costs about £48 during the week for a room that sleeps up to three people and £58 at the weekend for a triple room. I think it costs even less during low season. Given the price of the hotel you can’t expect luxury but it is good value for money. The room was impeccably clean as was the bathroom and the service was excellent.

The Tavern Co - Bloomsbury

4 Queen Square, London L1 1RH

29-11-2008

The Taven Company came highly recommended by a tutor on my course at the univeristy so I decided I mus try it. I was not disappointed! I also think you can tell how good a restaurant is by how happy the people look who are eating there and the people inside the Tavern almost always look very happy! I thought the food was very good. It’s Mexican- not the most authentic Mexican food I’ve ever tasted, but good nonetheless. I also recommend the steak- best I’ve had in Liverpool.

La Tasca - Liverpool

4 Queen Square, Liverpool, Merseyside L1 1RH

29-11-2008

I don’t think you can go too wrong with La Tasca. They make great Tapas that actually is like the stuff you would get in Spain and they have a fantastically fun and friendly atmosphere. I always go for a pitcher of Sangria! When the tapas for a tenner offer was on you got such great value. All the tapas you can eat for £10 from their special menu (which had all the top dishes on it). I’ve always had really good and efficient service and have really enjoyed the food.
