Dodah's Cafe Bar - Rawtenstall
103-105 Bank Street, Rossendale, Lancashire BB4 7QN
15-12-2011
Lovely place and lovely food – its popular and can be quite busy at times but you can book a table if its a special occasion or if there are a few of you. It smells sooo good your mouth starts watering as soon as you walk in. They have a good selection from their menu and their specials board. A lovely place to eat and meet up with friends for a coffee. Reasonably priced and polite staff. It was really busy last time we went but the service was still really good.
National Trust: Brimham Rocks - Harrogate
Summerbridge, Harrogate, North Yorkshire HG3 4DW

Spectacular rocks and views and the perfect place for a picnic!
Good parking (free for NT members) and nice clean toilets and facilities.
Spent a few hours here exploring and climbing about with my 12 year old and partner, could easily have spent longer (heights make me nervous, but still managed to climb a few lol) Its a definate must see if you are in the area along with Malham Cove and Fountains Abbey/
National Trust: Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal Water Garden - Ripon
Fountains, Ripon, North Yorkshire HG4 3DY
15-12-2011
Had a lovely autumn afternoon at the abbey and gardens. stunning ruins and good parking (free for National Trust members) would like to go back at a different time of year, and there’s lots of photo opportunities in the vault and all over the site its a definite must see if you’re in that area of Yorkshire and Brimham Rocks is just up the road. Good facilities at the main entrance and down the dip in to Abbey too.
Sealife Centre - Scarborough
Scalby Mills Road, Scarborough, North Yorkshire YO12 6RP
15-12-2011
Had a lovely morning at the sealife centre with 2 12 year olds and my partner. I do have a soft spot for Otters so this stood out for me to other Sealife centres we’ve been to. It was the last weekend in October so some of the out door things weren’t really right to do for the time of year, but would be lovely on a sunny day. It wasn’t too cold to sit outside for the otter and seal talks though. Gift shop wasn’t as good as other sealife centres but it was a nice morning to spend while we were on holiday and there are vouchers in local attraction leaflets or on the back of pay and display tickets for money off so not bad entry price when discounted and plenty of parking, for us at the time of year at least.
Scarborough Castle - Scarborough
Castle Road, Scarborough, North Yorkshire YO11 1HY
30-11-2011
Another lovely set of seaside ruins on the north yorkshire coast. We visited both here and Whitby Abbey in the same weekend.
Good value for a family ticket and the nearest car park is at the opposite the church just a little down from the Castle where one of the Bronte sisters rests in peace. The nearly teenagers liked the audio guide and being able to explore off on their own. There are lovely clean toilets and a shop and spectacular views down on both bays of Scarborough. The staff were polite and helpful.
Whitby Abbey - Whitby
East Cliff, Whitby, North Yorkshire YO22 4JT
30-11-2011
Stunning Abbey ruins at the top of Whitby overlooking the bay, sea and hills, would highly recommend if you’re visiting the area. There is a car park at the side of the abbey where you are more likely to find a space if Whitby is really busy. You can always walk down the 199 steps to Whitby and walk off your fish or scampi and chips when you go back up them to the top which is what we did. There’s a lovely reasonably priced cafe next door in the youth hostel and a gift shop. I thought it was reasonably priced for a family ticket and got some beautiful pics :)
Titanic Spa - Linthwaite
Low Westwood Lane,, Linthwaite,, Huddersfield, West Yorkshire HD7 5UN
02-02-2010
Had a fantastic day at the Titanic Spa in Feb 2010! Myself and my friend had a lovely relaxing day on the Heat experience and we also had an additional treatment with the mud.
The spa is set in an old mill building, packages can include overnight stays and the accommodation looks lovely. The staff are polite, helpful and friendly. The Spa and areas we were in were clean and tidy and there was a plentiful supply of clean fresh and warm towels.
The package we booked also included a buffet lunch which had a vegitarian option, potatoes, rice and different salads and a good selection of drinks, hot cold and alcohol if you fancy.
The salt water pool was very nice and although the gym was small it was adequate. It was only available from 11am for non members of the gym. The food was tasty and fresh. We treated ourselves to afternoon tea too later on and the scones were still warm and fluffy! Yum!
All the different heat experiences were good and we both thought it was the best spa day experience we have had so far.
There are sometimes offers on through travel zoo or lastminute.com which can be excellent value.
Would definately recommend to a friend and visit again :)
Alloway Sub Post Office - Ayr
29 Alloway, Ayr, Scotland KA7 4PY
06-09-2009
This is a lovely little post office near to Burn’s cottage. It is also a shop as well as the post office part and sells a good range of products including local gifts if you’re visiting and want to take something home. They also have a good range of postcards and everything is reasonably priced.
The staff are friendly polite and helpful.
There is free street parking for up to 30mins but if you needed to be in the area for longer there is a free car park next to the Robert Burns cottage.
Burns Cottage - Alloway
Alloway St, Ayr, Scotland KA7 4PY
06-09-2009
This is a lovely little museum that marks the birth place of Robert Burns - which is celebrating 250 years this year!
The museum wouldn’t take up much of your time to explore if you were in the area with some time on your hands. As such the entry price is reasonable or free to Nation Trust members.
Theres a lovely little shop opposite and a fantastic cafe too with fabulous cakes! Theres a free car parking less than 100ms away from the cottage. Theres a lovely pub about 5/10minutes walk down the road and a visitor centre thats expanding which also has a gift shop, cafe and facilities.
The sites are all on one level so accessible for all.
China Lounge - Whitefield
190 Bury New Road, Manchester, Greater Manchester M45 6QF
21-05-2009
The China Lounge is opposite Slatterys on Bury New Road.
There is a small car park to the rear and additional parking at Slatterys over the road.
The China Lounge serves fantastic chinese food thats of great quality and very tasty. The staff are very polite and the service is good. The China Lounge isn’t a cheap option but you definately get what you pay for.
There is a good choice of drinks, even the house wines better than the usual.
Then… if you have the room… to top off the perfect meal and due to the close location no doubt… The China Lounge serves Slatterys puddings!
Perfect!!!
