Rush Hair - Windsor

61 Peascod Street, Windsor, Berkshire SL4 1DE

15-03-2011

Have tried blow dries and cuts at this salon

pros: late opening hrs
cons: terrible cuts and blow dries!

I feel they are too concerned with being cool and trendy and actually dont have the depth of knowledge of hair types or face shapes etc. You walk out looking okish- but then 10mins later its a mess/ cant be restyled to suit you and just needs to be recut by somehere else!

They keep emailing/texting me significant discount codes to lure me back- but after 2 goes i cant be pursuaded, and the disounts make me think no one else can either!

Bel & The Dragon - Windsor

Thames Street, Windsor, Berkshire SL4 1PL

16-01-2011

Really nice food, but the location is a bit rubbish- no view to speak of and it never gets at all full so there is a bit of a lack of atmosphere.
A shame as the other ones in the chain are very good, and as i said the food is reliable and interresting compared to most pubs

mityme - Windsor

windsor leisure centre, Windsor, Berkshire SL4 5JB

16-01-2011

Run by the ever positive, approachable and honest Francine this place is a hidden Gem.
Tucked away at the back of windsor leisure centre Mityme offers up to date beauty treatments with top notch results in an affordable and friendly setting

Fran will do her best to fit you in whatever time you can make- and is frequently still working at 9pm in order to fit in treatment after work for people.

One particular strength is her waxing- even doing the most 'intimate' of waxing you never feel awkward for a moment- and she is as quick as a flash!

Each month there are special offers to tempt you to try new treatments, or just give your self a bit of a pamper in addition to your regular 'maintenence'

I have tried many salons in the local area- I have felt rushed, like my needs were ignored, my skin got worse not better after their proding, massages too soft, waxing not perfectly clean, prices too steep- but none of these critisisms can be levelled at mityme.

As it is a 'one woman' enterprise you can be guaranteed the lady herself- and she actually DOES have the experience, passion and talent . GO!

The Pineapple - Dorney

Lake End Rd, Windsor, Berkshire SL4 6QS

16-01-2011

I am with everyone else- a fantastic pub. the sandwiches arent simply a gimmick- they really are special, varied and delicious. You choose your filling from the 30 or so hot and cold options, then the type of bread- wrap/bagette/bagel/doorstopper brown or white and add either chips or a bowl of soup.
On a sunday there is additionally a choice of traditional roasts
Meals come in at about £7- roasts might be a quid or so more

Great value, friendly service, log fires and you dont feel too crammed in as you can in some places

I would suggest a good long walk around dorney lake and down the river to the lock and back before lunch to biuld up and appetite and make you appreciate that first pint and sit down all the more :)

Off note they also have a cider menu with 5 good ciders on- more interresting that your usual pub offering of strongbow!

Boots The Chemists - Windsor

113 Peascod Street, Windsor, Berkshire SL4 1DN

22-09-2010

Of note the boots store has now moved- just over the street into what used to be woolworths.

It is now much larger, has more 'premium' beauty countres and a huge 'gift' area (on 3 for 2 at the moment as it always seems to be!)

Carpenters Arms - Windsor

4 Market Street, Windsor, Berkshire SL4 1PB

22-09-2010

considering this pub is in the 'tourist central' area of windsor it makes more effort than it needs- and is all the better for it

Local ales and ciders on tap- 3 different ciders last time i went in including a very good vintage organic one.
Food better than expected- they seem to specialise in pies- which looked good, but the fish platter was too tempting- a wooden board with a small portion chips, tartar sauce and small pieces of battered fish, calamari and prawns. Great value at under £10!
bar staff friendly- and they are happy enough for you to bring in a paper and have a lazy few hrs with a pint and a read.....

Anchor Inn - Hartland

Fore Street, Bideford, Devon EX39 6BD

10-08-2010

In the charming village of Hartland this pub does a popular sunday cavery. For 7.50 a person you go up and help yourself to veg- roast or boiled potatoes, carotes, sauted leeks, chali cheese, cabbage, peas and 2 different types of gravy. There is a choice of turkey, ham or beef.

The main dining room is a bit 'old peoples homeish', but we took our food into the bar area and really enjoyed eating whilst watching the grand prix on the big screen!

I have to admit i found the meat a bit dry and the veg overcooked- but that could be because we arrived quite late- lunch is served 12-3 and we got there at 2:30.

Deserts were proper comfort food- i had apple crumble and custard and my partner had chocolate pudding with clotted cream. Both were stogy in a very satisfying way!

The Hoops Inn - Bideford

Horns Cross, Near Clovelly, Bideford, Devon EX39 5DL

10-08-2010

We dropped in here as it has real 'curb appeal'- pretty thatched roof, lovely flowers, busy.....

And we were pleased we did- the menu is local and varied, my mussels and chips were fantastic. Portions were generous- but I still wanted more as it was so yummy!

2 main courses and 2 pints of cider came to 30 pounds- which seemed pretty average in this area- as it is quite touristy.

They push their winelist heavily- claiming it is the best in north devon- but as it was lunch i didnt try any so cant comment- other than to say it was pretty long and seemed well priced

Life's A Beach - Bude

20 Summerleaze Crescent, Bude, Cornwall EX23 8HN

10-08-2010

In the evening this place chances from a beach cafe to an upmarket bistro. It is extremely popular- so book in advance.
Their speciality is seafood- and the 'special of the day' (clams, mussels, crevettes, red mullet, hake, lemon sole all cooked very simply and served over delicious buttery marsh samphire, accompanied by a small portion of chips) was 25 pounds a person, for a minimum of 2 people.
It was a real 'taste of the sea'- fresh and delicious- but quite expensive.
Starters are reasonable at about 5 pounds a person- try the crab bisque which was a real highlight.
The house wines are remarkably reasonable- a crisp french sav blanc was 10.50, and went down very nicely!

A great holiday meal out- the views over the sea combined with fish cooked with a light touch make it the perfect summer venue for a bit of a treat.

Katie's - Gerrards Cross

48 Packhorse Road, Gerrards Cross, Buckinghamshire SL9 8EF

27-07-2010

a great 'proper' bakers.
incredibly reasonably priced- cheaper and MUCH better than supermarket bread/cakes

get there early- they sell out of everything by early afternoon
