A Cote - Oakland

College Avenue 5478, 94618 Oakland

30-09-2008

If you are visiting San Francisco, hop a BART train to Rockridge Station to visit one of my favorite restaurants. Allow time to stroll the neighborhood shops before your meal.

At A Cote you will find food infused with passion and warmth, served in a gorgeous atmosphere.

Casual and relaxed yet a sense that something special is going on - and it is.

Cocktails and wines chosen with care and in concert with what is coming out of the kitchen as well as the atmosphere. Bartenders at the top of their game, sitting at the bar puts you in the middle of it all and can be fun if that’s what your evening calls for.

The three season patio in the rear is beautifully landscaped. The main dining area can be a bit noisy, but the rich colors and low lighting lend a romantic air.

Professional service only enhances the quality of the food, and is so smooth and effortless that you don’t really notice how well taken care of you are until it’s time to pay the bill and you scrounge around for cash, because that’s what you do when you get service like this - you pay the tip in cash.

The desserts are some of the best I have had anywhere, and I am not much of a dessert person after a big meal. Order at least three, even if you are stuffed to the gills.

And one final word:

Cheese Plate.

Okay that was two words - just go.

Century Ballroom - Seattle

E Pine St 915, 98122 Seattle

30-09-2008

I have a crush on an elfen twinkle-toed lady with a sexy alto voice.

Hallie Kuperman got the Huzbeau shakin' his groove thang with her FUN salsa lessons - and LOVING it!!

I have tried for over ten years to do this, so Hallie - YOU are a Goddess.

I love your space, which is to say, I love you.

Hallie has created a place where you will see all kinds of people having all kinds of fun.

I have been searching high and low for diversity in this town, and I finally found it.

You can dance or just watch from the balcony. You can listen to live music, you can enjoy a well crafted cocktail, you can have a nice dinner.

I like to go and do it all in this honest-to-god Ballroom.

The century old building that houses this stunning space was recently sold and rent for the Ballroom has increased substantially.

Next time you are itching for a good time - head on down to Century and support this amazing space.

There are all-ages dance sessions, check out the website for details.

Go to the website and click on "Building Sale" what Hallie had to say to the city council about development, art and community:
