Cafe Spice 2000 - Sunderland
6-7 Douro Terrace, Sunderland SR2 7DX
10-07-2009
Cafe Spice is more than your average Indian. The food is absolutely delicious. You can taste all the spices coming through. It is definitely my favourite Indian in Sunderland. The service is first class and the restaurant is light and airey. The prices are higher than average but even so it is extremely good value for money. Highly recommended
Hollymere Public House - Sunderland
Leechmere Road, Sunderland SR2 9DL
10-07-2009
The range of drinks is a little limited. There are no real ales, but the wines are reasonably priced. The food is extremely cheap. But thankfully, it’s cheapand cheerful. You can’t expect amazing food at £2.99, but it’s ok for a cheap night out. They have bands on as well as quiz and kareoke nights. It has a nice pleasant atmosphere.
lilmakemstar Hi just thought id let you know that Real Cask Ales are now available on hand pull at The Hollymere, pulled perfectly by the girls on the bar starting from only £1.85 a pint for the Tetleys and also Black Sheep at £2.10 (prices correct at time of comment!)

Dun Cow - Sunderland
High St West, Sunderland SR1 3HA
10-07-2009
When you walk in the Dun Cow, the first thing that you will see is the stunning Victorian Bar. It is amazing. The pub is really old and has two rooms. The choice of ales is ok and the jukebox is good. There is something missing though from here and I cannot put my finger on it. It lacks some astmoshpere. It’s worth a pop in though. The building is magnificent.
Fitzgeralds - Sunderland
12-14 Green Terrace, Sunderland SR1 3PZ
10-07-2009
Fitzgeralds suits people who like their ale, hate loud music and just want a decent pint in a good old fashioned pub. It gets really busy on a night, but is nice busy rather than being unable to move. It has a nice beer garden to the back whihc is pleasant in the summer. It has loads of real ales and belgian beers available. One of my favourite pubs in town
The Borough - Sunderland
1 Vine Place, Sunderland SR1 3NE
10-07-2009
The Borough is cool. I will give it that, but it really needs some investment in it to make it look better. It is really tatty now. I have been going for 10 years and it has never changed! That’s not a good thing. There are a good range of drinks and the bar is good for people who like rock music. Expect wierdness at times though. Don’t go in for a sophisticated drink.
The sandcastle pub - Sunderland
ryhope road, Sunderland SR2 0SP
10-07-2009
The food here used to be average and a bit rubbish, but the past few time I have been I have been really pleased and pleasantly surprised with the quality of the food. It may please some people that they do “real” chips. They are running a promotion of two meal for a tenner which is good too. I would certainly recommend. It is also ideal for families.
the tavern - Hetton-le-Hole
four lane ends, Hetton le Hole, Houghton le Spring DH5 0AA
10-07-2009
The Tavern is a great local pub. There isn’t a marvellous range of beers, but it’s ok. I would recommend going in about 9pm though as it’s a bit quiet before then. They people are all friendly and the quiz on a Sunday is good for a laugh.
Greggs - Hetton-le-Hole
15 Front Street, Houghton le Spring DH5 9PF
10-07-2009
Greggs is ok, but the staff are a little impatient and the pasties aren;t as nice as peters. They are also a little mean on the sandwich and pasty fillings too.
Hetton Front St Post Office - Hetton-le-Hole
Front Street, Hetton-le-hole, Houghton le Spring DH5 9NJ
10-07-2009
Oh my goodness! The staff in Hetton Post office really don’t want to be there. They never want to help you and often make mistakes counting money. I buy photos online which state in large letters DO NOT BEND and when I go to pick them up, if the woman is serving me, she always bends them! I try and avoid when possible.
Peters Cathedral Bakers - Hetton-le-Hole
Front Street, Houghton le Spring DH5 9PF
10-07-2009
Peters the bakers certainly have nice products. I adore their baguettes and their cakes are really good. I prefer Peters to Greggs and think that the quality is much better for a slightly higher price. The pies are good and my grandma always asks me to get her a trifle when I’m there as she loves them!
