Reema Balti House - Whitechapel
48 Hanbury Street, London E1 5JL
04-07-2012
Ok, so let me start out by promising you all that I am not usually a complainer, especially for something small like a problem with a take-away - I certainly would not waste my time and yours writing a complaint. But my experience was so bad with this place I needed to tell people to AVOID, AVOID, AVOID.
I went to order some food from Reema’s Balti on Hungry House, and was worried that they were not open yet (5;55pm) so I found the number online and called them. I told them I was just about to order on Hungry House, but before I processed the booking I wanted to make sure that they were open and would deliver to my address (some of them can be sticky about central London). I gave them my postcode and was informed (after the guy on the phone consulted someone else) that of course they would deliver to my postcode and to go ahead and book. Happy that I would receive my order I paid online and waited....
About 30 minutes later I received a TEXT to say that the restaurant had declined the order. Obviously I was angry, as I had specifically called them to make sure everything was ok before paying £30 online for food that was no longer coming. I called them again and asked for the reason. I was told by a very rude young guy, that it was because of the congestion charge for Central London. He then hung up. Obviously at this stage I was reeling! I checked the congestion charge times online and sure enough, the charge had stopped over 30 minutes after I had even placed the order online…. Hmm, time to call back!!! I explained to the guy that I knew about the congestion charge times and that could not be the reason. I also informed him that I may complain to Hungry House. He hung up again and I thought that would be the end of it. Actually, I can no intention of Jcomplaining… I just wanted to annoy him
And here comes the best part of the story….
About 40 minutes later I get a call on my mobile from a man claiming to be the manager/owner. I was a little surprised but guessed he was calling to apologise for the mix up. HE WASN’T.
He admitted that the congestion charge thing was "Bulls#*t" and that the real reason is that he didn’t want to send a delivery guy all the way out to me (Covent Garden). He then proceeded to verbally attack me over the phone; “You want to complain about my restaurant? Well go ahead I don’t give a s#*t. Hungry House will take down any complaints anyway so it’s a waste of your time. Your complaints will not impact on my restaurant at all so you are wasting your time”. He went on like this for 10 minutes. I kindly then asked him, if it was not going to impact, why then had he even bothered to call me? I also asked why they were on Hungry House as saying they would deliver to my postcode (and confirmed on the phone) and then cancelled. He didn’t reply.
Well, after this there was no way I was not complaining. To cancel the order is one thing. I understand that deliveries across the city can be a headache at the best of times. But to call me on my mobile and threaten/attack me is another thing entirely. So I’m writing this complaint because I will NOT be bullied by some rude guy who thinks that complaints don’t make any difference…..
Let’s see, shall we?
