Comment: Karin is very special. In the past I used to go there mainly to have breakfast or to be more precise, to wake up. I would have a large latte, a croissant or simply a boiled egg with a bread roll and butter, not to mention my preferred newspaper: That’s what I consider the perfect start to the day. It’s definitely the people that make this place. Seated next to me is a local city dweller – a connoisseur of the art of living – slurping away at his cup of tea. The next table is empty, or was empty until these two middle aged women made their appearance, took a snooty look around the place to figure out how on earth the furniture and staff would fit in with their white and gold outfits. Despite their seeming hesitancy they still sat down and only moments later they already looked as though they were part of the furniture. Even the stockbroker who has just swept inside with his crew cut, has been coming here for his morning coffee for years. Karin is definitely iconic of Frankfurt. Here you can come across anything and you can start your day completely relaxed, in peace and quiet. What more can I say?

Das Karin ist besonders. Früher bin ich vor allem morgens zum Frühstück hingegangen, eigentlich mehr zum Aufwachen. Ein grosser Milchkaffee, ein Croissant oder einfach ein gekochtes Ei mit Weck und Butter. Dazu noch die Tageszeitung meines Vertrauens: so sieht für mich der perfekte Start in den Tag aus. Und dann die Leute. Neben mir sitzt ein Stadtindianer und Lebenskünstler, blättert in der FR und schlürft seinen Tee. Der Tisch daneben ist leer, ach nein, da kommen zwei Damen mittleren Alters, gucken noch ein wenig pickiert, weil weder die Einrichtung noch die Bedienungen zu ihrem Outfit aus Weiss und Gold passen wollen. Sie setzen sich trotzdem und schon Sekunden später gehören sie dazu. Auch der Börsianer, der gerade mit windschnittig kurzen Haaren zur Tür hereinweht, nimmt schon seit Jahren seinen morgentlichen Kaffee hier. Das Karin ist eine Ikone Frankfurts. Hier siehst Du alles und kannst ganz entspannt und vollkommen in Ruhe Deinen Tag beginnen. Hach ja..
