Gali's - Edinburgh

29 West Maitland Street, Edinburgh, Scotland EH12 5DX

08-02-2012

We booked a table at Gali’s for a bite to eat before the Scotland/England rugby game, so needless to say the place was heaving.

The staff coped really well with the number of covers they had to deal with and the food was….OK. It’s not the best looking of places and the food doesn’t look too enticing wither when it arrives but it tastes good.

I did end up with a wine glass full of floaters and a hair in it though, I hadn’t noticed til I was futher down the glass or I’d have sent it back.

Good atmosphere, nice staff, just a bit dated and perhaps not the nicest of settings.

Ship Inn - Southampton

41 Old Redbridge Road, Southampton, Hampshire SO15 0NN

21-12-2011

We ended up here after a botched hotel restaurant experience, and so glad we did.

This is a lovely pub, loads of atmosphere and the staff were great. The food was excellent too.

If we ever visit the area again I reckon we’ll be back.

Noiseless I loved it there as well. Lovely pub. Might pop in over Christmas

Express By Holiday Inn Southampton West - Nursling

Adanac Park, Redbridge Lane, Southampton, Hampshire SO16 0YP

21-12-2011

Hmmmm, we stayed here in November prior to joining a cruise. It’s a typical express by holiday inn, but we left more disappointed than we should have.

When we arrived we were told that due to computer issues they couldn’t serve any meals or drinks. Instead we were offered a selection of not so nice looking takeaway menus or instead to pay for a taxi to take us out to a local pub for a meal. “It was entirely our choice…” well actually, no it wasn’t.

We ended up going out to a local pub and it wasn’t until mid journey back that the taxi driver said something about this hotel never offering any food…. Perhaps it’s just a ruse they use all the time.

They somehow managed to offer a shambles of a breakfast the following morning, cold bacon and sausages along with some equally cold and soggy croissants. The ‘restaurant’ was busy, dirty and seriously lacking clean and sufficient cutlery.

Wouldn’t use this place again, but hey, it was a bed for the night.

Clan Kilts - Stirling

14 Viewfield Place, Stirling, Scotland FK8 1NQ

12-09-2011

A few years ago now, we handed in my (now)husband’s kilt for a wee re-adjustment and thought we had nothing better to do than wait for it to come back all shiny and new (and fitting properly, ahem!).

We waited…and waited…and waited, until I eventually (admittedly) lost the plot and complained that “at this rate my husband wasn’t going to be able to wear his own kilt to his own wedding, they were taking so long”. It turns out that for the five weeks they’d already had the kilt they’d done nothing with it and as a result didn’t have the time to do the alterations we needed. We were getting married the following week…

Somehow, however, they managed a quick-fix and as we’d been waiting for so long they didn’t charge us.

I do want to raise a further point though, now that the time has come for him to ‘don the kilt again’. We’ve had the kilt assessed by another local company who have told us that the alterations that were done have indeed left the kilt looking – well – quite strange. The upshot is we’ve simply had to order another one up for him as the original one cannot be suitably fixed.

I’m quite prepared to believe that Clan were so busy they’d somehow forgotten about our request and of course we’re grateful that we weren’t charged, but that we now have to fork out for a replacement to ‘fix’ the issue is maybe a bit much to expect, they’re hardly the cheapest of things.

Clan Kilts Dear MrsMe,

We encourage customer feedback and appreciate the time you have taken to write this review. However, we are disappointed that you are not entirely satisfied with our service.

Firstly, we would like to assure you that the “quick-fix” you refer to was not anything short of our usual high standard. It may have been quick in terms of the length of time it took, but this would have been because your kilt became our first priority.

Also, we realise that this happened a few years ago now but if you were not completely happy with the kilt when we returned it to you, we would have been more than happy to rectify this at no extra charge. Yes, this may have been done after your wedding day, but we would not like to leave you with a kilt that you were not happy with.

We would also like to raise the possibility that this other “local company” you refer to has advised you that the kilt “cannot be suitably fixed” in order to make a more lucrative sale.
It is unclear from your review whether the kilt was originally made by us and what re-adjustment was carried out.

We would like to assess your husband’s kilt in order to establish what exactly is making the kilt look “quite strange” and carry out whatever adjustment is needed free of charge. Our kilt-maker is an ex-Black Watch regimental tailor and this is regarded by many to be the highest standard of kilt making. Also, we would not have allowed a kilt that was not properly adjusted to be returned to you, unless specifically requested.

We understand that this has been brought to our attention a few years late, but we would like to assure you that what we are offering now would have been offered at the time, if we had been informed.

Yours sincerely,

Stuart

The Gore Hotel - Knightsbridge

189-190 Queen's Gate, South Kensington, London SW7 5EX

We called in here for some drinks after a gig at the Albert Hall. Nice bar but for goodness-sake bring your purse !

Also, don't expect any bar nibbles like nuts or crisps - no such thing !

Best Western Top Hotel John Howard Apartment - Knightsbridge

4-6 Queen's Gate, South Kensington, London SW7 5EH

We stayed at this hotel during a recent visit to London town and chose it purely because it's location and the price.

We were at a gig at the RAH and this hotel couldn't be more perfectly situated as it was within very easy walking distance, (approx 5 mins).

The rooms appear to vary. Ours was fine, quite spacious and airy. Though I understand some can be quite pokey with even pokier bathrooms. The staff were......well......there, they gave the impression they had far better things to do than talk to you and although pleasant enough when asked something, didn't offer much of a warm welcome.

Would definitely use it again when visiting the Albert Hall/Hyde Park areas.

carluccios - South Kensington

Old Brompton Road, Kensington, London

30-05-2011

Always wanted to try Carluccios and took the opportunity when in London last weekend.

The menu was.....OK, I'm sure it could've been a little more varied though. I had the pasta con funghi, which was lovely. Others had the lasagne, which didn't really look that great but they tell me it was good.

The staff were friendly and attentive and the atmosphere was good.

Maybe a bitty expensive, but I'd go again.

Wilawan - Stirling

Baker Street, Stirling, Scotland FK8 1BW

As a lover of Thai food, I'm naturally going to like this place.........however, it's a little tired looking inside and it's never really that busy.

You honestly can't fault the food however, it's always been brilliant whenever we've been - I just wish they'd do home deliveries....grrrrrrrr.

La Cucina - Bridge of Allan

Henderson Street, Bridge of Allan, Stirling, Scotland FK9 4HG

13-04-2011

Just new to Bridge of Allan, La Cucina is an Italian restaurant that offers some fabulous food.

I had the special when I was there, king praws with tagliatelle in a garlic sauce, ooohhhhh it was goooood !

The restaurant has a great little atmosphere and the staff are nice, very helpful and very knowledgeable of their menu.

Riverhouse Restaurant - Stirling

The Castle Business Park, Stirling, Scotland FK9 4TW

We used to love coming here, but recently the food's not been THAT great. A tad overpriced too, but the locations' handy and depending on what way you're looking, quite picturesque.
