Loving Hut - Marbella

Avenida Miguel Cano 11, 29602 Marbella

24-11-2011

I wish I could eat all of my meals here. Everything on the menu is 100% vegan, the staff are lovely and the atmosphere is quiet and cosy. The menu is absolutely amazing, practically any dish you can think of but totally vegan, they also do smoothies, hot and cold drinks and non alcoholic wine and beer.

Love it.

Thai Restaurant Bangkok - Marbella

C/Iris 11B, 29660 Marbella

24-11-2011

Love this place. Beautiful restaurant and really friendly, attentive staff.

For 24.95 per person, any day of the week, they do an all you can eat + all you can drink deal (just wine and beer). Food was great, good portin sizes and our glasses were never empty for more than a few minutes.

Definitely reccomend!

La Cuisine - Marbella

Plaza Puente Ronda 2, Old Town, 14880 Marbella

23-10-2011

We stumbled across this bar whilst wondering around Old Town looking for Mojitos. All cocktails were reasonably priced at 6 euros each and the table service was really good. The mojito wasn’t the best but overall the place was alright. There was table’s both inside and outside and the atmosphere was very relaxed with a range of people drinking there.

Pop Hostel - Center

Madrid

23-08-2011

I wasn’t overly impressed with this place but it was fine for a place just to crash for one night. The staff and other travellers were pretty friendly and there was two computers which could be used for free to access the internet. I booked my room 5 hours before my arrival for 12 euros and was provided with an ensuite mixed room with a free breakfast. There was a suggested ‘quiet time’ in the rooms from 23:30 until 08:00 and a locker could also be secured in the room for a 2 euro deposit.

Hostel Welcome - Villa de Vallecas

Casas de Miravete 28 B, (Pol. Industrial de Vallecas), 28031 Madrid

23-08-2011

Although I found the Hostel Welcome very difficult to reach, I was very happy with my short stay. Because of a change in plans I was frantically trying to book a place at the last minute and managed to get a room for two night for £30 with just two hours notice.

The nearest metro stop was Sierra de Guadalupe and from there I had to take a taxi.

I had a three bed room all to myself with a towel provided plu s a free hour on the internet upon my arrival. The rooms were all very clean and the staff all spoke very fluent English. I felt very comfortable staying here alone and would go back if I was in the area.

Departure Centre - Limehouse

649/651 Commercial Road, Limehouse, London E14 7LW

23-07-2011

I love this place.

As far as I’m aware, it’s all volunteer run which I think is a great idea and a few of the people who work in there have always got that ‘this is my first day’ look on their face, which actually makes you feel even more comfortable.

There’s a selection of hot and cold drinks (I’d definitely suggest trying the mint tea) and hot and cold food available. The building itself is full of original art work and photography and the furniture is all mismatched and placed erratically which gives an odd homely feel. You can choose to chill inside or up on the roof garden which is beautiful on a hot day. Free wifi works throughout.

Departure also sell books and hold events and lessons in the cafe on various nights.

Definitely one of the gems of Limehouse.

Hopfan Bed & Breakfast - East Ham

192 Central Park Road, London E6

14-07-2011

My girlfriend and I stayed at this bed and breakfast for one night and found it slightly curious but very welcoming. At first we thought we’d come to the wrong address as it is situated on a residential road and apart from the small sign in the living room window, there is no indication this isn’t just another home on the street.

After venturing inside we were shown upstairs and given on of the three bedrooms the house has to offer. The woman explained she had converted her home into a bed and breakfast and has plans to expand.

Our room had a very homely feel and came with complimentary tea and coffee. Additionally there was a TV in the room which picked up the usual 5 channels There was also clean towels for the both of us and a random selection of books and magazines on the bookshelves.

The bathroom was slightly disappointing as it was shared by all residents in the house. There was a bit of a knack to getting the shower to work properly and the bath plug had been completely removed, presumably to prevent anyone from taking a bath…?

The landlady suggested several places to eat in the area although we discovered that East Ham isn’t the most romantic place for an evening out. We picked an Indian restaurant along Barking Road (about a ten minute walk) where meals were all half price, however our meal was interrupted every ten minutes by a passing police car or ambulance with its sirens on full whack. We were impressed though that we were seated, served and had completed our meal, all within 40 minutes of arriving.

We did manage to get a peaceful nights sleep though and a varied breakfast was served at the exact time we requested. I doubt if we’d visit it again but I would recommend it to anyone looking for a cheap, friendly place to stay that offers that ‘home away from home’ feel. Definitely a bargain at £45 for two people.

Candy Bar - Soho

4 Carlisle Street, Soho, London W1D 3BJ

17-02-2009

A good gay girls night out in London will invariably result in an adventure to Soho and why there what good excuse can there be not to go to The Candy Bar. Located on Carlisle Street, a stone’s throw away from Tottenham Court Road, this seemingly ladies only venue is the perfect place to start, spend or end your night. Upstairs in the spacious bar you can find a pool table and down the stairs the less casual entertainment is found in the form of a dance floor and strip poles (Be sure to catch the strippers on a Saturday night). On the middle floor is the calmer area to sit, drink and chat without the usual cheesy tunes which are pumped out at the ten thousand decibel rate at other Soho haunts. You might sometimes incur a charge to enter, although never over a fiver, and your big gay man friends can even join you too if you’re in a big enough group. Definitely a great place to spend an evening with friends but the friendly crowd also seems to allow for a night ventured out alone to end less lonely.

The Falcon - Ponders End

115 South Street, London EN3 4PX

30-01-2009

This local pub in Ponders End is as interesting as it is original. There’s usually a friendly crowd inside and it happens to be positioned right next to Robbins Hall (University halls of residence) so a young group can often be found in there. The decor gives you the impression you’re a couple of decades behind but the messy, aged atmosphere has a very homely feel to it. The drink prices are pretty good too with a pint only setting you back 1.99, also the landlord often lets punters use the pool table for free if there’s a large group of you! The welcoming bar staff and the comortable environment definitely make this a decent place to chill out and have a few beers on your way home from a long day.

The Junction - Cambridge

Clifton Road, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire CB1 7GX

05-12-2007

Since the early 90's The Junction has been growing as one of the most popular venues in the area. Now recognised as a centre of excellence the space offers music, theatre, comedy, dance and club nights at a great price. The Junction hosts easily a thousand events each year so it's obvious to note there is something for everyone. In recent years other leisure areas have developed in the same location on Clifton Road, meaninga day out in Cambridge can be had in this cosy space alone, no need to head into the busy City Centre. The club nights definitely have to be the best aspect of The Junction, from classic disco's to Dot Cotton - the monthly gay night, they normally run well into the early hours and offer a wide range of entertainment and drinks. A definitive place to start, spend and end your evening.
