Elephant & Castle shopping centre is one of those places you go to because you are in the area, not because you want to!
It’s easy to find, Elephant & Castle underground station on the Bakerloo / Northern line, take the shopping centre exit and walk up the ramp as you exit the station…....you’re there.
Don’t expect shops such as Fraser Hart, Debenhams or Subway. The majority of shops are high street chains like Woolworths (for as long as they exist now anyway), Tesco (metro) and other small privateers.
If you work in the immediate area and need to get some lunch or last minute shopping then you’ll probably find it here.
Xmas shopping it definately isn’t.
Corbets Tey Road, Upminster, London RM14 2AJ
Situated on Corbetts Tey Road opposite Upminster Library and next door to the Crumpled Horn pub, HotShots is a traditional type barbers with a twist. Catering for men and boys the decor is a 'mans man’ paradise with signed photo’s and sporting memorabilia covering every wall. A huge plasma screen plays music channels at a respectable level, just a sight difficulty when there’s a particular video you want to see and having a hair cut at the same time.
The staff are prdominantly female which is not a problem as they are fantastic at the 'male orientated’ barbers culture.
The prices are very reasonable (£9.00 for a straight forward cut with no frills) and offer a whole range of the usual barbers services at competative prices.
It can get busy at weekends so be prepared to wait.
87-135 Brompton Road, Knightsbridge, London SW1X 7XL
Harrods has a bit of a sooty reputation, although I have never experienced this whenever i have been there. Staff are always pretty helpful and very pleasant. I have even found some bargains in here - perfumes can be cheaper in here than in some well know perfume retail outlets.
Some people are under the impression that there is a dress code to enter the store, however, I dont think this is something the staff actively enforce. I am sure if the doorman doesnt like the look of you, they have the right to refuse entry, just like any other store in the country. Going in to the store wearing jeans seems perfectly acceptable though, plus the shop is over run with tourists wanting to take heaps of pics, and they are definitely not dressed to the nines!!
Hall Lane, Upminster, London RM14 1AL
Uominster Pitch N Putt is situated on Hall Lane almost opposite Upminster Golf Course. It’s not the most professional or extinguished of looking places but offer ssome very good fun.
You can hire your clubs (iron and putter) with balls from the office (garden shed) icluding round cards for about £3.00 per person. If you have your own clubs then this course will probably be a little too easy for you but you can play with your own.
There’s 9 par 3 holes with varying difficulties that will give you good fun.
A good few hours whacking balls around!!
Station Road, London RM14 2SX
This is not the biggest department store you will ever visit & half of it has recently been sold off to make way for a new M&S store on Station Road. The products are not really cheap however the customer service is outstanding. The store has clothing departments (Men, Women & childrens clothing) electrical department & a seperate furniture store across the road. If you are not looking for a bargain, but appreciate good quality products & good service, you should give Roomes a go!
Corbets Tey Road, London RM14 2JS
A budget clothes shop for women (I don’t think they do any mens clothing!) I think they sell a lot of end of line products and fashion lines that did not sell very well in big stores. If you look hard enough, you can find some designer brands from places like debenhams. You can buy a whole outfit for under £30, but the quality of some of the clothes is not very good. Some of the tops I bought for my other half did not last a very long time, they ripped & frayed in the wash. It all depends on what you are buying, check it out carefully before making the purchase.
Granada Service Station Thurrock Motorway Services Area, Grays RM16 3BG
Great pit stop for everything you could possibly need for your journey. You can pick up a fresh cup of coffee, a hot snack (pies, pastys, sausage rolls) or some sweets.
Prices are as you would expect from a service station. There are no restaurants for hot food nearby but it is the last service area before the Dartford Crossing.
63 Corbets Tey Road, London RM14 2UD
Papa Johns is a pizza shop on Corbets Tey Road. The shop offers delivery or you can phone your order through & collect the pizza in person from the shop. The food is always pretty good & they offer the usual menu you would expect from a pizzaria. The only frustrating thing about the shop is that you never seem to get the correct order if you phone up for a delivery.
I have ordered from the store many times and each tiem there has alway been something missing or incorrect on the order.
If you collect the order from the shop at least you have a chance to check it before you take it home.
The prices are good & there is usually some kind of buy one get one free deals on the pizzas.
Corbets Tey Road, London RM14 2AJ
A small Boots chemist near Upminster station. This store offers a pharmacy counter & you can get advice from the pharmacist on different medications & treatments.
The 3 for 2 offers are available in this store however, there is not a great deal of electrical items or gifts available.
There is a chiller cabinet which offers snacks & sandwiches and there are usually special offers for lunchtime where you can buy a sandwich, a packet of crisps & a drink for a discounted price. This store is good for picking up things you may need in a hurry although if you want specialised items, you would be better off going to a bigger boots store
47-49 Corbets Tey Road, London RM14 2AJ
Great store that has everything & anything you can think of! This particular Woolworths is a smaller store that one you would find in a shopping centre but nontheless it still has a whole host of goodies & lots of special offers.
The store has an electrical section ,Toy department, Children’s Clothing & homewares section. You can also buy the famous Wollies Pic N Mix & there is a big selection of sweets & chocolates.
At the moment there are some very good deals on childrens toys for christmas. Well worth taking a look, you may be lucky & pick up a good bargain.
