Amaranth - Earlsfield
346-348 Garratt Lane, Earlsfield, London SW18 4ES

A real local gem, known widely in the area as the best place for Thai and reasonably priced too, especially as you can BYO for a small corkage. Really friendly staff and tasty dishes. Good vegetarian options too. Worth booking in busier times.
You can order takeaway and Thai foodstuffs in the neighbouring deli next door in Amaranth Too.
They have a nice cosy room downstairs that you can reserve for larger groups which has been great for a birthday and hen do among friends.
Hôtel Balladins Paris La Villette - La Villette
219 Rue De Crimee, 75019 Paris

We stayed here as we needed low-priced accomodation over the Paris marathon weekend and it suited us perfectly. A very short walk to Crimee metro station and a short walk to the interesting and pretty area around the Basin Villette and Canal St Martin region. If you're looking to keep costs down the shops, cafes and restaurants are all reasonably priced around here too.
Breakfast was 8 euros which was okay value and the rooms/bathrooms were clean and refurbished in a modern light style.
Try the Moroccan restaurant on the same side of the road about another 30metres along - very tasty and good value.
You can leave your luggage here before you are ready to depart. Overall good value for what it is, friendly staff and a good base for a weekend in Paris if you are mostly going to be out and about as we were.
Near to and only one change to take the metro to Gare du Nord for eurostar.

A great independent local bistro with lovely warm decor and friendly and helpful staff. Its not cheap but its worth it and good quality ingredients. My only slight criticism is that its not too exciting for vegetarians relying heavily on pasta dishes which seems a bit of an easy route when they clearly have adventurous ideas in the kitchen otherwise.
Looks like they do a good brunch and coffees - whenever I walk past even early in the week its always busy enough and looks very inviting. Hope they continue to do well...just improve the veggie options!
Sandy's - Marylebone

Stumbled upon this place and thoroughly enjoyed it. Loved the decor, intimate feel and the tastiest pizza ever. Priced a bit more than your standard chain pizza places but well worth it. Lovely wine too.
I was here early in the evening so I can't compare notes with the other reviewer but we had really friendly service.
Recommended!
Whole Meal Vegetarian Cafe - Streatham
1 Shrubbery Road, Streatham, London SW16 2AS

Went for the first time on Saturday and loved it.
Good value, proper tasty food and great service. Nice atmosphere without being smug or too "crunchy granola". Recommended to friends who have already been and loved it too...and they're not even vegetarians!
Try it - and ignore the bad reviews.
La Faim des Haricots - Capitole
3 Rue Puits Vert, 31000 Toulouse

This was a recommend in our lonely planet and we were curious to go to a veggie restaurant in France. Based in the bustling old quarter of Tolouse down a little side lane it's in a tucked away setting adding to the feeling that you've stumbled onto a secret.
Such good value, tasty and really friendly service. Don't keep it a secret - visit this place whether you are veggie or not...if you're on a budget it really is good value. 14 euros for four courses and that was pretty much all-you-can eat. The meal of the day was a delicous tagine but as well as that there were divine savoury tarts, salad bar, soup and too many desserts to choose from.
Fudge Cafe - Lyme Regis

This is one of those places resting on the laurels of it's location alone. I wouldn't mind the small space and limited menu if it was served with a smile and a pleasant atmosphere. However the owners were surly, served unexciting, overpriced cheaply produced sandwiches and had run out of most things, which we were informed of without any word of an apology.
The upstairs room where we sat was freezing - as cold as outside and drably decorated. Another family were also complaining about the cold. The owner rudely told them off for moving the chairs around to fit their party and went off muttering. We were never asked if everything was okay or if we'd enjoyed it...or given a smile. It's a shame this place is such a disappointing rip off in such a great spot. We were fleeced.
Riverside Vegetariana - Kingston upon Thames
64 High St, London KT1 1HN

I’ve been here twice now and both times the food has been delicious and the service personal and warm. As well as the middle eastern influence mentioned in the other reviews there are some tasty Caribbean dishes that are a change from the usual vegetarian fare and the garlic bread is a must. The organic wine range is good too. The decor is a bit 70s Alpine but it adds to the relaxed and unpretentious atmosphere, and the views onto the river through the French doors more than make up for it.
If you are a suspicious carnivore you should still give this place a try, and its reasonable too.
Aquavit - Chester

Their set menu is good value, £8.50 for three courses. All smallish portions but added up do the job and you’ve had a little taste of everything. Fish pie was good and the apple tart pud was delicious. We had one great waitress and one grumpy waiter so service on the whole was average! It beats the chains around the town with the purposefully cluttered decor that gives it an interesting and cozy feel. Maybe there should be more Swedish influence?
Worth a visit. Booking might be necessary on busier nights or lunchtimes but worth trying on spec if you haven’t.
Chez Lindsay - Richmond
11 Hill Rise, Richmond, London TW10 6UQ
25-10-2007
People may tell you to visit Chez Lindsey for their famous crepes or "galettes" but there are other typically French items on the menu...such as snails!
The galettes are really delicous and filling. Try the one with roquefort and leeks. The wine is a bit pricey but there are some nice French beers too such as Meteor from the Alsace Lorraine region. If you're lucky enough you may get a table by the open windows looking out over the river. On an evening the candlelit atmosphere is cosy and if you want it to be; romantic!
The head waiter always gives good service, taking your coat off with a flourish etc but I have experienced a slightly more cold French welcome from some of the waiters..don't let it put you off, an entente cordiale was soon reached on receipt of a smile.
Note: check your bill, sometimes they leave things off and sometimes add things on!
