Central Inn - Newquay
11 Central Square, Newquay, Cornwall TR7 1EU
13-10-2008
The Central Inn is basically located right in the centre of Newquay, so this pub is an ideal meeting place for any group on a night out in Newquay.
This pub is always busy at weekends as you have to pass by on your way to almost anywhere of note on a night out in Newquay, there is a patio beer garden to the front of the pub which is an ideal place to watch the hustle and bustle of a weekend in Newquay.
Walkabout Inn - Newquay
The Crescent, Newquay, Cornwall TR7 1DS
13-10-2008
The Walkabout in Newquay is based 'a stones throw’ from the beach and quite near a few of Newquay’s nightclubs.
Menu and drinks are as per any other Walkabout pub so expect supposed Australian lagers such as Fosters, XXXX etc and food inclsuding burgers and steaks.
The Walkabout has probably the biggest TV screen I have seen in a pub which makes this pub good for watching any Live Sport.
The main problem with the Newquay Walkabout is that the bar area is quite small compared to the size of the pub so trying to get served when it is busy is almost impossible.
The Hogshead - Exeter
81-82 Fore Street, Exeter, Devon EX4 3HR
13-10-2008
The Hog’s Head is usually very busy at weekends, especially in the upstairs bar as most night’s out in Exeter will end up in here at some stage.
The pub is nothing special really as the beer is average, food is average and prices average, the pub is all about location, location, location at it is based in the middle of the High Street between the the clubs in town and the clubs at the Quay.
The Hog’s is not the place to go if you want a quite weekend drink, it is the place to go if you want to bump into Stag/Hen night or anyone else in fancy dress.
Harrys Restaurant - Exeter
86 Longbrook Street, Exeter, Devon EX4 6AP
13-10-2008
Harry’s Restaurant menu is mainly a Tex-Mex/Grill although they do also serve a Pizza and Pasta.
The prices are reasonable, the food is good and the service is always very good.
Harry’s is an ideal place for a small party of around 6 to 10 people, anymore than that and you may struggle for a table as evening bookings are a must, usually at least a couple of weeks in adcance at weekends.
For anyone loving Chocolate and Ice Cream don’t forget to leave room for the Harry’s Heart Attack dessert.
Shamrock Irish Pub - Prague
Wenceslas Square 56, New Town, Prague 1 Praha
13-10-2008
The Shamrock Irish Pub is located right in the heart of Wenceslas Square and is your typical Irish theme bar, they serve an overpriced dodgy pint of Guinness, the food is traditional Irish menu (!!) and they even have a Leprechaun outside to greet you.
The pub is expensive and a real tourist trap so avoid if possible…....that is unless you are on a Stag night when this shoud probably be one of your first stops.
Old Town Square - Prague
Stupartska 9, Staroměstské náměstí, 110 00 Praha
13-10-2008
The Old Town Square is full of history and photo opportunites with various picturesque buildings to explore.
This is also probably the best meeting place in Prague as all roads tend to lead back here at some stage.
The main feature of the Old Town Square is the Astronomical Clock which draws large crowds every hour to watch the 'procession of the twelve apostles’.
There is not actually too much to do at the Old Town Square but you will probably end up here a few times over the course of a weekend, even if just by accident.
Jolly Porter - Exeter
St. Davids Hill, Exeter, Devon EX4 4BB
13-10-2008
The Jolly Porter is based by Exeter main train station, St David’s. The pub often has live music at weekends, a high percetage of the live acts are covers bands.
Unless you live near to the Jolly Porter I can’t really come up with a good reason to visit this pub. If you want live music there are better venues in Exeter, if you want a lively atmosphere there are better pubs in Exeter and if you want a quiet drink there are better pubs in Exeter.
City Gate Hotel - Exeter
Lower North Street, Exeter, Devon EX4 3RB
13-10-2008
The City Gate is based about a minutes walk from the high street, it has a nice beer garden with lots of shade if the summer sun gets too much.
The bar menu is pretty standard and prices are fairly average. The drinks in the bar tend to be a little expensive, especially as there is nothing in the City Gate you can’t get elsewhere for cheaper.
There is nothing really wrong with the City Gate, there are just better places in Exeter.
Top Hotel Praha - Prague
Blažimská 1781/4, 149 00 Praha 4 – Chodov, 14900 Praha
13-10-2008
Top Hotel Praha is a 4* hotel based in the suburb near Chodov around 25-35 mins from Central Prague by bus and train.
The hotel is mainly used for business conferences but is also very suitable for tourists with 800 rooms and 11 restaurants/bars including a Sports bar and an old Czech beer parlor. The hotel facilities also include a swimming pool, tennis courts, casino, bowling alley and a Japanese garden.
The rooms are a bit basic but I think that is more to do with the style of Czech hotel rooms rather than the Top Hotel Praha.
If you are going to Prague for a weekend I would recommend staying at the Top Hotel Praha as the trip to Central Prague is very easy using Prague public transport, there are also enough facilities to keep you entertained if you fancy a quiet day staying in the hotel.
I am planning to go back to Prague soon and will be looking to stay here again.
Bunkr Parukářka - Prague
130 00 Praha
10-10-2008
This music venue is probably only for the more adventurous of tourists.
Bunkr Parukárka is a converted cold war bomb shelter which is now a live music venue, it is situated slightly out of main town centre but is still on Prague’s metro system.
The entrance to Bunkr Parukárka looks quite intimidating as it can only be described as a double steel door in the middle of a wall, this door leads to a set of spiral steps which takes a good couple of minutes to descend into the club. The club itself consists of various 'catacomb’ type rooms, several of which had a different DJ playing during my visit.
I highly recommend a visit to Bunkr Parukárka but possibly only for groups due to the club being slightly off the usual Prague tourist routes.
