    The Narrow Boat

1pxt Redseven last updated on 08-01-2009:

    Wonderful, canal side cosy pub.

Having enjoyed a brisk winter walk (in the sunshine) along the canal heading towards Angel, this was the perfect watering hole.

The Narrow Boat serves Harvey’s Ale, alongside the usual lagers and a decent looking wine list. Suitable for groups and lone drinkers alike. We enjoyed our beer overlooking the canal on one of the small terraces and as soon as it was too cold to stand, we moved inside to thaw-out in front of the rawing open fire.

They serve food, though we didn’t eat (this time), I’m looking forward to the next visit.

Awesome apres ski bar, famous for being the liveliest bar in The Alps. Drop in after a hard day on the mountain for some hard drinking, dancing on tables and attempting the final piste with a troop of drunken revellers. KK gets very busy from 4pm, it’s on the main piste back into the village. Usually frequented by a slightly younger Aussie/English/Swedish crowd than the Mooserwirt.

KK has two bars, the main upstairs bar and the 'downunder’ bar a 'disco’ bar, with music and dancing. KK serve bar snacks and a full lunch menu of standard Aussie bar food.

When you visit try to remember where you leave your skis - or use the ski check (2Euros) as with so many people skis/boards can often end up falling down the piste.

    Prost!

    Tap & Spile

1pxt Redseven last updated on 28-12-2008:

Considered a fairly local pub, a place to find a few interesting characters and a few local hand-pulled ales. The Tap puts on regular entertainment evenings, notably live music, mainly metal/rock from memory.

It’s also worth remarking about the rotating, circular pool table, which given the size of the establishment works fairly well. Plus The Tap is home to Newbury’s only pinball machine. Serves standard pub grub, a selection of sandwiches at lunchtime.

A great addition to Stoke Newington High Street, Lemon Monkey lives up to the quirkiness of its name. Whilst having a drink and snack in here I was able to stock up on a couple of Christmas presents. The helpful staff made suggestions for a hamper and wrapped everything in a basket, whilst I enjoyed the reasonably priced snack.

The cafe also stocks a range of bric-a-brac (mainly kitchenware) which provided further stocking fillers, I’m a big fan of the multi-purpose cafe, somewhere to eat, drink, buy cheese, wine and interesting kictchenware.

    The Sun

1pxt Redseven last updated on 28-12-2008:

I’ve been a fairly regular drinking in The Sun over the past few months, I’m not sure why we always end up drinking here. It has a large crescent shaped bar in the centre of the bar - you get served pretty quickly, usual beers available here, nothing out of the ordinary. The pub has a good, friendly atmosphere, I’ve never witnessed any trouble.

The Sun gets pretty busy at weekends, especially in the summer as the crowds are drawn to the beer garden. I’ve heard good things about the BBQs, but not yet had the chance to try them myself.

    The Bird In Hand

1pxt Redseven last updated on 28-12-2008:

Nestled within a busy residential area between Kensington Olympia and Shepherd’s Bush, The Bird in Hand has a largely local crowd. One of my favourite pubs in West London, it’s of the traditional type of 'pub on a corner’ where the main bar is a crescent in the centre of the pub.

The Bird serves a range of hand-pulled ales and a good selection of lagers. It also has a fairly decent wine list, a great place to spend a Sunday afternoon browsing the papers or watching the football (most big sporting events are shwon on their projection screen)

They serve traditional home-cooked good quality food, I would recommend a look at the food board as they often have great fish specials. Food is served from 6-10pm, Sunday food is served all-day. Sunday night is also the time of the pub quiz.

A small indoor arcade with over 100 independent antique dealers. Hungerford Arcade is a great place to spend a spare few hours searching for a bargain. The arcade includes a large second-hand bookshop and cafe.

I would recommend a visit to 'The Junk Shop’ this is downstairs in the cellar of the building, filled with miscellaneous objects of all sorts of things not quite fit for display within the dealers units. A good place to find something interesting.

Racing pub in a racing village.

Situtated in the centre of the village, this is a pub of unique qualities, it is booming with local characters. Decorated with Wall-to-wall horse racing memorabilia, there is always live sports coverage available. The pub has a sports room, with both a dartboard and pool table.

The Wheelwright doesn’t serve food, though the landlord is happy for patrons to order takeaway. Highly recommended.

A wonderful family run, house restaurant, set in the idylic watership down area. Enjoy a pre-dinner drink on the outdoor decking absorbing the magnificent view of Beacon Hill.

Surperb food from a set menu available at reasonable prices, I’ve never been disappointed. Enjoy a drink with the hosts after your meal.

The Dew Pond also runs a range of wine & food evenings. Highly recommended if you’re in the area.

    Bar So

1pxt Redseven last updated on 27-12-2008:

“What do you call a bloke drinking by himself in Bar So?”...

    ...A Bar-So-Loner.

But why would you want to drink alone in such buzzing bar, visited once with a big group of friends, we’re not members the “discerning Bournemouth bar goer crowd” but having come down from town for the weekend we didn’t have any problems with the door-staff unlike some other establishments in Bournemouth (who do they thing they were?) a good place to enjoy a few beers and some funky soul tunes.
