Pinto's - Prestwich

A small, but very pleasant cafe, which serves a variety of teas and coffees, and a range of meals/sandwiches/breakfasts. Really nice friendly staff. Four 4-seater Ikea tables & chairs inside, with a similar amount of seating space at the bottom of the steps outside.

I would recommend this as an alternative to the nearby Costa (which is good, but doesn't exactly offer value for money when compared to this cafe). If you are looking for somewhere which is a little different to the coffee chains, then this is definitely the place to go in Prestwich Village.

Not quite my local, but probably the best choice within a five minute drive. A pleasant, characterful pub with a really nice outside area. Service is a bit slow at busy times, but remained friendly and efficient all evening. Plenty of comfy seats inside, wooden chairs outside. The house red was surprisingly good - in many pubs, I've found the house wines to be virtually undrinkable, but definitely not here. Reasonable prices, too. We spent almost 5 hours here recently and I spent just under £20, which left me a lot of change out of the £30 I took with me :) Didn't try the food, but I am reliably informed that it's very good. Will definitely be coming back here soon, even though it's a good 15-20 minutes walk home - it's probably a good job that it's a little out of my way, otherwise I would probably spend far too much time/money in here :D

Armstrongs - Prestwich

I live in Salford, but it's well worth a drive up the hill to visit Armstrongs. Excellent value, and by far the best fish and chip shop around. Convenient for Heaton Park as well, so you may like to buy some food here before visiting the park, or maybe even afterwards. Good service as well, but as the other reviewer mentioned, it can be busy - but with good reason: the food is always worth the wait. Everywhere else feels like second best after eating here :)
