Orion Media - Thornton-Cleveleys

138 Victoria Road West, Thornton-Cleveleys, Lancashire FY5 3LG

28-02-2013

After finding a few very old VHS tapes from the attic, I really wanted to see the footage again. Not having a VCR anymore, I wanted the tapes to be converted to DVD and shopped around at the big high street companies but was put off with their high prices.

Visiting Cleveleys one day, I saw this shop and on returning I took the VHS tapes with me. The staff seem friendly and helpful and I was pleasantly surprised that they were going to charge me £45 less than the other companies AND they were prepared to deliver.

The DVDs arrived a few days later and they worked on my player and also the laptop, it was great to see the footage again and it was all possible thanks to the help and low prices of Orion Media.

Colombia Motors - Rishton

Spring Street, Rishton, Blackburn BB1 4LL

28-02-2013

I have taken my cars to Colombia Motors for the last five years, mostly for servicing, MOT and tyre fitting.

I have always been treat like a valued customer, Chris and Rhian are very polite and helpful and they take good care of your car.

Even if you don't know much about cars, Chris will happily explain things in a non-patronising manner and will let you know the cost of repairs before they carry out the work.

They are part of the Good Garage Scheme www.goodgaragescheme.co.uk and their reviews alone mirror my admiration for the company.

Oriental Garden - Southport

56 Lord St, Southport, Merseyside PR8 1QB

28-02-2013

My partner and I visited Southport a while ago and couldn’t decide on what to have for lunch, we chose the Oriental Garden as it was located near to where we were parked.

We were greeted by a fairly pleasant lady and was shown to our table, we were asked straight away what we would like to drink, we both asked for Tango or Fanta and was served orange juice with lemonade, it tasted vile.

The restaurant had a distinct smell of dust and didn’t have a very welcoming atmosphere, with one half of the dining area unlit.

The middle-aged waiter thrust two menus under our noses and within a minute he was back to ask what we would like, feeling a little pressured I ordered something that I wouldn’t normally order.

I found the waiter to be very pushy, rude and lacked in knowledge concerning the Chinese cuisine.
I overheard one lady ask the waiter if a certain dish contained any form of GSM, he couldn’t answer and seemed to do nothing to find out either, she ordered something completely different.

Our courses were served to us separately, so whilst my partner sat there with a dish in front of her, I was sat for around 3-5 minutes awaiting mine.
The courses were also planted down on the table without any form of courtesy.

The waiter paced up and down the aisle, which was a distraction and also caused a bit of a draught. At this point I summed him up as the Chinese version of Basil Fawlty.

The food wasn’t much better than the service, our local takeaway tastes better on a wet weekend.
We ordered spare ribs, they were presented well, but they were very fatty and left an unpleasant after-taste.
The main courses weren’t tasty at all, very bland and left us both needing the toilet soon after.

We are used to dining at quality Chinese restaurants, where the food is of excellent standard and the service is impeccable, we aren’t snobbish, we just appreciate good food and friendly staff.
No disrespect to the people that recommend this restaurant on other sites, but obviously they aren’t too fussy where they dine.

As you may have guessed by now, I wouldn’t recommend this restaurant to anyone, I suggest you do the opposite of what we did and carry on walking past.

Premier Inn Carlisle (M6 Junction 44) - Carlisle

Parkhouse Road, Carlisle, Cumbria CA3 0ET

28-02-2013

I usually tar the Premier Inn and Travelodge with the same brush, not anymore.

My partner (reviewed below) and I stayed here last year for just one night. If I had more time off work then we would have stayed for an extra night, it was a lovely hotel and the pub/restaurant was a great place to chill in the evening.
The member of staff on reception was lovely, first impressions count with us, and the bar staff were very friendly too.
I slept fine in the bed, it was a little hard and it kept the other half awake, which was a shame because she had been awake all day without an afternoon nap.
I really enjoyed the breakfast, pricey but you got a lot for what you paid for and I did eat a lot of toast due to my fixation with the toast machine.

We set off for the Lake District very happy.

We will definitely return, preferably for more than one night next time.

BunnyTinkerbell And I do need my afternoon nap lol xxx

The Beardwood Hospital - Blackburn

Preston New Road, Blackburn BB2 7AE

28-02-2013

In the past ten months, my partner and I have had three operations between us and many consultations.

The level of service has more often than not been first-class.

The most recent operation involved a two night stay. The nurses were fantastic and treated us both with a high standard of care and respect.

The hospital in general just makes you not want to be treated anywhere else.

The only downside is the parking, it's a shame they can't expand as a lot of people just park where they can.

BunnyTinkerbell Well said Micky, the nurses looked after your Bun very very well. Let’s hope they don’t need to look after me again though :) xxx

Boots The Chemists - Blackburn

Townsmoor Retail Park, Great Bolton Street, Blackburn BB2 3PX

28-02-2013

You can't really fault Boots, they offer some really good promotions and have a decent points system on their Advantage cards.

Staff don't seem very friendly in this store, a few are quiet, some are stoney-faced, but one particular member of staff, usually on the perfume section, isn't helpful at all and only seems to approach guys she fancies.

Sainsburys - Darwen

Hardman Way, Darwen BB3 2AD

28-02-2013

Sainsburys in Darwen seems to have the stronghold of supermarkets in the area as the only competition is a Lidl and the world's smallest Asda.

I find the goods are a little on the pricey-side compared to what you would pay in neighbouring town's stores such as Tesco and Asda.

Staff aren't too bad, there is one member of staff though who spends more time talking and holding up queues rather than getting people through the check-outs quickly.

I would avoid shopping here in the hours 8am-9am and 3pm-4pm as the kids from the school opposite descend on the store and staff don't seem to do anything to keep them from behaving.

Prestige Beds - Blackburn

Burnley Road, Blackburn BB1 3HW

28-02-2013

Went in the shop with the intention of purchasing a king-size bed.

After being in there for five full minutes with no other customers being in the shop, apart from one member of staff who seemed to not want to approach us at all, we walked out and went to Dreams, where we were jumped on straight away and ultimately got our custom.

Dreams - Blackburn

Whitebirk Drive, The Peel Centre, Blackburn BB1 3HT

28-02-2013

After reading many horror reviews on the internet about this company, I can honestly say I was surprised.

I have purchased two beds and two headboards, each on separate occasions, and I have been impressed with the service every time.

The staff are friendly and helpful, the quality of products are of a high standard (even the lower priced items) and the delivery set-up is hassle-free.

Definitely recommended.

Blackburn Balloons and Cards - Blackburn

186 Redlam, Blackburn BB2 1XQ

28-02-2013

I initially went to another nearby balloon shop that I have bought from before. I had a shipping order and unfortunately for the shop, they were closed on that certain weekday, so I googled 'Balloon companies' and luckily I found Blackburn Balloons and Cards.

It was my partner's 30th birthday coming up and I wanted to go a little OTT on her. The shop was very helpful and had my order ready on time.

They filled each balloon up for me and also filled a couple that I hadn't purchased there.

I would give them a 5 star rating, they have good quality balloons that seem to last ages, but they do stock poor quality balloons also. My partner was sick recently and I got her a get-well balloon that started to deflate as soon as I got it out of the car in the hospital car-park.
