I would not normally consider staying at what used to be called a 'Holiday Camp' after dreadful memories from childhood, but that said a long weekend with extended family to get some ailing family members some fresh-air and entertainment seemed like a good idea and was booked by my partner,
On the face of it, the grounds and main house are OK and there are plenty of facilities, but the accommodation is like going back to the 1960's and brought many of the (nightmare) memories from childhood, flooding back. The chalet was described online as a "standard plus" grade, but it was a real struggle to find what the "plus" actually was. The room was cold, damp (with signs of water damage), beds were small and rock-hard with damp bedding and the bathroom basic (with bath/shower and dreaded shower curtain).
The "Holiday Village" do a good job at keeping a programme of events for the more mature clientele and the staff try hard to give a pleasant and efficient service but the food is a bit 'hit and miss' with breakfast (limited buffet) served between 8:30am and 9:30am (blink and you'll miss it!) and Supper, served from 6:30pm to 8:30pm. In effect, turn up 30mins before end of service and many items will no longer be available.
This is an establishment that is stuck in the past and in desperate need of a dragging into present day standards. Whilst understandably catering for a niche market, they could do so much better with a little more effort and investment.
