Tourist Information Centre - Southend-on-Sea

Western Esplanade, Southend-on-Sea SS1 1EE

16-11-2008

The beaches are vast and expansive, and as a lifelong resident, I’ve noticed that they’ve been cleaned up a great deal as Southend as become more of a bustling Euro-Day Trip venue with people travelling from all over Europe, and indeed; the world.

It should be noted however that there are still some minor concerns, mostly the extensive noise from the amusement centres and theme park, though it’s a great place to go to see some great maritine activity and history.

Homebase - Southend-on-Sea

85 London Road, Southend-on-Sea SS1 1PA

A good store stocking various products, and most of the times at decent prices, though it is advised you shop around if buying something espensive.

Their wallpaper selection is particularly expansive, and I made my own purchases from there when helping a friend decorate their house.

They also stock a wide range of plants and water features, which I’ve often purchased for my Mother, and she’s always been pleased with.

The staff are also helpful, if somewhat clueless, and will always do their best to help you and assist you if a product you purchased if found to be faulty.

Travelodge - Southend-on-Sea

Chichester Road, Southend-on-Sea SS1 2JP

Unfortunatly, due to several nightclubs near by, it’s nigh-on impossible to get any sleep here.

I guess on the plus-side there are some good places to ear nearby, but I honestly can’t attribute that to the Travelodge itself.

The staff are fairly friendly, though don’t expect any special treatment from a budget hotel.

Priory Park & Museum - Southend-on-Sea

Southend-on-Sea SS2 6NB

I so love Priory Park, and am so glad that they suspended the through-road they was planning to place here, destroying such natural beauty and heritage would be a crime.

I think the park measures in at somewhere around 35 acres, and features play areas for children, areas to fish in, (not sure if you need a license or consent form), and also areas to picnic in, a small museum, bowls, tennis, basketball, football, rugby areas, (all designated), and some of the most beautiful foliage around.

It’s well worth a visit just to treat your eyes to such an unsurpassed level of beauty.

Rinky Dink - Clapham

38 Clapham High Street, Clapham, London SW4 7UR

05-11-2008

Quite an average place, went here a few months ago with some people I was doing a gig with, and it wasn’t too shabby.

Whilst not my usual haunt, the mood of the place was great, and very relaxed, and whilst the prices may be a little steep, considering you’re in London, they’re not overly bad.

The food and drink itself is quite good, and certainly filling.

Primark - Southend-on-Sea

Royals Shopping Centre, High St, Southend-on-Sea SS1 1LQ

A great shop for girls and adults, but not much in the way of fashion for men, also, the upper floor tends to be VERY hot and sweaty.

On the plus-side, they have a very large lift for wheelchair and buggy access.

Game - Southend-on-Sea

120 High Street, Southend-on-Sea SS1 1JT

A great place to find a bargain, though the staff are a bit hit-and-miss, some of them, are great, and will always smile, however the others are very “Chavvy” and opinionated of themselves, and tend to talk down to you, and will also use the approach of “sell whatever costs the most to the person who doesn’t know about consoles and games”.
I know several of these staff personally, and those who are smiling make a great game shopping experience even better, also, unlike shops such as GameStation, they don’t have Goth or Mosher music blasting out the speakers and very dark lighting, which I feel adds to an enjoyable experience.
