I was also there 1976 - 77 under General Manager Clive Faulkner. The company gave me a flat in the Haymarket overlooking Jermyn Street. My first child was born there in 1977. I was moved shortly afterwards to other pubs around London by Henekey's, but you could never recapture the atmosphere, and partly the danger, of the Cockney when it was in full swing - which was virtually every night. One week we did a party for the Stones, the week after it was British Rail. One night we even had 12 bombs go off around Soho and Piccadilly, but we kept serving and Thunderclap Jones carried on playing honky tonk piano in the bottom bar. I was more worried about the rollocking for removing the bomb proofing off the windows earlier in the week than getting blown up. A different world and not so long ago.... & 29p a pint!
