Goddess Temple - Glastonbury

2-4 High Street, Glastonbury, Somerset BA6 9DU

15-09-2011

One might, if not a neo-Pagan of some description, be tempted to avoid, or even dismiss the Goddess Temple. Don’t.

Go in, take your shoes off, and go and sit quietly on the cushions and sheepskins at the side of the temple. Feel the energy of the place, open your mind to the feminine Divine (or the possibility thereof if you’re a monotheist of some sort – where would we be without the Shekinah after all?). Have a read of the books, light a candle and give thanks/make a request, ask to be smudged by the Melissa (temple guardian – those who know their Starhawk will know where this word comes from!)

I’m not an exclusive Goddess follower, believing in balance of female and male – but the Goddess is the source, the fount, the beginning and that to which we all return… and the Temple is a place where – as much as you can outdoors, anywhere really – come together with others, or where others have been, to feel Her presence.

The decor may not be to your personal taste, I know it isn’t to mine, but it doesn’t matter, the prayers, the worship, the energy, the Goddess is there, and I for one, have drawn much closer to the Goddess, and been shown direction in my life since I started going there. If you google Glastonbury Goddess Temple, you’ll get a sense of what this place is about, and how they acknowledge the turning of the year through the 8 Festivals, and connect to the ancient British Goddesses….join in, take part, open your mind, and have fun.

Oh, and it’s not a “women’s thing” (wimmin/womyn – whatever!) there are many many men who worship the Goddess and I’ve come across 2 at least who are Melissas in this Temple.

Blessed Be
