The Adelaide - St. Albans

6 Adelaide Street, St. Albans, Hertfordshire AL3 5BH

25-06-2008

A venue where the reputation certainly preceeds itself. Granted, I have only been once, and I had a good time, but I would not return in a hurry.

Reasons to go: Music, dance floor, you can count the number of clubs in St. Albans on one hand, open late, serves alcohol, good music.

Reasons not to go: men in the venue are vulgar, the floor is sticky, unidentified marks on the wall (which my friend thinks is merely a build up of cleaning products).

If the bars are closing and you want to continue your night but don’t fancy batchwood then go to Adelaide, you will have a good night, but you didn’t hear it from me ;-)

Oh and the DJ takes requests and actually plays them which is a rare and very welcome quality.

The Valmont Club - Earls Court

266A Fulham Road, Chelsea, London, London SW10 9EL

25-06-2008

A swanky stylish place. Put on a glam dress and party with royalty (literally, Prince William is known to go there)

It is expensive on the door, expect to pay at least £10 and the bar is pricey too, but what you get in return in a gorgeous venue for a gorgeous night.

The DJ is right next to the dance floor and pumps out the best choons. Was the first club I heard play Gimmie More so the DJ is therefore a legend.

A great place for a birthday, especially as if you book a guestlist the Birthday Girl gets in free.

Mokoko - St. Albans

26 Verulam Road, St. Albans, Hertfordshire AL3 4DE

25-06-2008

Sophisticated venues are all too rare in St. Albans, so when Mokokos moved in it was quickley snapped up with facebook events for 21st birthday parties.

Cocktails galore and a fancy venue so can get nice and dressed up without the worry of being sat next to a burberry chav.

Cocktails are around £8 each but if you don’t fancy one you can always grab a popular beer.

Don’t fancy alcohol? Their non alcohol cocktails are just as much of a treat. I had the watermellon and pepper. Scrummy!

Not your birthday? Impress that special lady on a first date.

Mokokos do not serve food but it is is surrounded but popular italian restaurants.

A great night out.

O'Neill's Bar - St. Albans

13 Hatfield Road, St. Albans, Hertfordshire AL1 3RR

25-06-2008

A very popular place for many reasons.

The bar prices are reasonable and the food is very cheap without scrimping on standards. A great place to go for afterwork drinks when you are at the last few days before pay day!

An awesome venue to watch sports as they have one giant screen in the middle of the venue and smalller screens around the venue for your viewing pleasure.

Also they regulary have live bands and again they do not cut corners. Always a good night.

If you only go once a year go on Christmas eve where you can be full of Christmas cheer with the friendly locals.

And ladies, they have hair straightners in the toilets. Yes you did hear me correctly.

The Peahen - St. Albans

6 London Road, St. Albans, Hertfordshire AL1 1NQ

25-06-2008

The Peahen has been a popular venue in St. Albans for many years as it has managed to avoid the rowdy crowd stage and has maintained is reputation as a nice place to go to have a drink.

The bar is long and stretches down one side of the venue, as well as having a spacious beer garden.

A great place to go for a a glass of wine or two with old chums from school. If you are a local you will most likely bump into your school pals here, but you probably knew that already.

The food is great too so a gret place to visit after work or on your lunch break.

The bar is reasonably priced and the door policy is usually over 21s on a Sat night.

Full length mirror in the toilets so you check out your hump. Your hump your hump your hump. Check it out.

Dot Dot Dot - Brighton

25 Kensington Gardens, Brighton BN1 4AL

25-06-2008

Looking for a fashion shop in Brighton? Dot Dot Dot will prove a winner. If you need something for a night out or a new wardrobe staple be sure to take a look. They don’t have much for sale but you are sure to find something you will like.

High heeled shoes, dresses, drain pipes, t-shirts and hoodies. A trendy name for a trendy shop sporting labels like Bench.

Shoes will set you back around £40 and dresses around £60.

Oh and they sell mens clothes too.

Slug and Lettuce - Wimbledon

Hartfield Road, Wimbledon, London SW19 3TA

25-06-2008

Slug and Lettuce is a reliable chain for a few drinks or something to eat. It can get busy on at the weekends but there are plenty of places to sit so this need not be a bother.

A cosy environment for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Also makes for a great night out as Slug Wimbledon boasts two bars over two floors.

They also show sports and are currenlty showing the Wimbledon championships. Sounds like Pimm’s O’Clock to me!

PS: visit their website and play “Slug Invaders” ..... just awesome

Bertie's Bar - Wimbledon

2 Hartfield Road, Basement, London SW19 3TA

25-06-2008

Don’t let that it is in the basement of the Prince of Wales (the pub) put you off. Bertie’s bar is a great venue for a chat over a beer (or two) with your friends.

The venue is very attractive with high wooden tables to perch or big leather couches for slouching.

The large screens show sports and are currently showing covering of Wimbledon, of course. They also have live music and open mic nights.

They also have a small beer garden for those of you who need a faaaaaag.

Thumbs up: they serve food. Thumbs down: no disabled access.

Lush - Wimbledon

5 Wimbledon Bridge, Wimbledon , London SW19 7NH

25-06-2008

Lush is one of those shops that make you want to jump in the bath and be a princess for half an hour. Bubble bath, bath bombs, soaps, balms, melts, jellies, body butters, just everything!

All the products are fresh and handmade and almost good enough to eat, although the smell in this shop is so scrummy that you will be tempted to try!

This shop the place to go for a perfect gift for your boss, mum or friend when you only have a few minutes to spare. What is great as well is that some sets come pre-gift wrapt, Which relates to their slogan “never too busy to be beautiful.” Genius.

Prices are very affordable, a bath bomb is £2-£3 and bubble bath is around £10.

But here is the best bit….. they are against animal testing.

podding_about i love lush! especially the honey i washed the kids soap and the honey bath bombs! to be evil i throw in the glitter bombs when the mans having a bath! he comes out all glittery! bless

Blow Up Metro - Soho

19-23 Oxford Street, Soho, London W1D 1AS

25-06-2008

I am a huge fan of this venue. I have visited on band nights and club nights and both are fantastic.

Despite being on Oxford street, Blow up really has the charisma of a local venue so you can feel really close to the band and a great sense of the atmosphere. A proper retro crowed where the staff have pink hair and strongbow is served in a can.

Speaking of alcohol, drinks are very cheap and there is never a queue at the bar.

Feeling peckish? They serve food, although it’s Micro Chips which are only nice when you are 7 as your tastebuds haven’t developed yet.

Club nights make you feel like you are at a festival as they play choons like the Long Blondes, The Metro, Bloc Party and the like.

An awesome venue and a cheap night, entrance is rarely more than £5.

Come out of Tottenham court road, turn left, take 20 steps, go up the stairs and PARTY!
