    Maasai Mara Game Reserve

An impressive game reserve, famous for its exceptional population of game and the annual migration of zebra and wildebeest from the Serengeti every year from July to October, a migration so immense it is called the Great Migration.

The park also boasts twenty or more lion prides, giving pretty good odds of seeing these alpha predators, and if you get a good guide and you’re very lucky you might even get to see some lion cubs too. The BBC series “Big Cat Diaries” is filmed here, and was the location of much of the Adamsons work, of “Born Free” fame.
There are also Cheetah, Hyenas, Jackals and a whole host of antelope, as well as over 450 species of bird.
This park truly is amazing, with large enough spaces that it is possible for you to drive and avoid other tourists. Unfortunately, these days most of the tour operators use band radios and communicate on the same frequency, this means that if anyone has spotted something of note you’ll probably get to see it too - along with 100 other white vans. If you can do it, rent a 4×4 or get your driver to try and avoid the tourists. You might see a few less things, but it will make for a truer experience and in my opinion a better safari.

There are both camping and lodge facilities in and near the park. There have been stories of elephants wandering into camping sites and a tourist was killed a few years ago by a hippo when he was walking by a river and didn’t notice the nearby agitated hippo - remember to be vigilant, this really is the wild!

    Lake Nakuru National Park

Simply one of the best safari parks in Kenya. Small enough to enjoy if you only have a day, but large enough and relatively quiet enough to not lose the illusion of escape from humanity.

Nakuru provides the visitor with many unique photo opportunities, and one of Kenya’s best known images; thousands of flamingo, joined into a massive flock, covering the shores of this soda lake, feasting on the abundant algae. A pulsing pink swathe of life that carpets the water, the flamingo truly are a breathtaking sight.

The park also provides visitors and almost guaranteed sight of Rhinos, both White and Black having been introduced.

There are the options of camping near the entrance gate, or staying in a lodge. Though the lodge is expensive, there are nice views from the bar, and the swimming pool is great for those cooking lunchtime breaks!
