Abergavenny Food Festival - Abergavenny
Abergavenny, Wales NP7 5XZ
08-09-2011
This year’s Abergavenny Food Festival takes place on 17th & 18th September in the lovely market town – the gateway to Wales.
The programme this year is superb with Masterclasses, Talks and Tastings from some of the world’s best chefs – like Fergus Henderson, Angela Hartnett, Sam Clark and our own local superstars such as Shaun Hill, James Sommerin, Steve Bennett, Wes Harris and Rupert Taylor.
You’ll find a fun packed programme at The Castle, with music, theatre, comedy and cooking in the Food Academy. Plenty to do there to keep the kids entertained.
Amongst the stalls, you’ll find an abundance of local, organic, artisan and imaginative creations to taste and buy.
This year we introduce Popup Dining so you can take a break and enjoy some of the best food the area has to offer. Tickets, maps and programmes online at www.abergavennyfoodfestival.com SO much to see, taste and do! Plan to be here for the whole weekend!

Lovely local pub and brasserie. The lounge offers cosy sofas, a warm fire and great value meals. Even the light bites at lunch time are real boot fillers... The newly refurbished brasserie is light, airy, modern and attractive. Another great place to eat in a county that's spoilt for choice.

This is a great local shop! There's bread cakes and pastries baked on the premises every day, a fantastic butcher with excellent meat (their thick cut bacon is great) a great deli counter offering home baked ham, beef and pork, home made pies, lasagne, shepherds pie, faggots and bread and butter pudding, as well as a well-stocked freezer section and a good off-licence. It has a good range of quality produce - and all in the space of a medium size village shop. And not forgetting a coffee machine! Fab.

This is a lovely, informal cafe in Agincourt Square behind the famous Shire Hall. With comfy sofas and things to entertain the kids, it's a great place to relax with a coffee or afternoon tea. The lunch menu is extensive, largely home cooked and great value. Afternoon tea is a treat. And the service is lovely.

Pleasant cafe in the centre of town with a good range of simple dishes - lovely to sit in the window and watch the world go by below.

To call M&Co a fashion shop is like calling McDonalds a restaurant. It sells very ordinary high street clothing. For fashion in Monmouth try any one of the other stores - from Dotty Ps and New Look at the budget end, through Suits U and Fat Face in the mid range and Salt and Pepper at the high end. And there's also some great charity shop bargains.

This has to be my new first favourite place to meet up in the centre of London. The cake selection is awesome - and really good value. Other food is healthy, often fairtrade and organic with a good selection of salads and fruit too. It can get busy at times but it’s friendly and convivial even then, with people scrunching up on tables and bar stools to make space.
And you can have a quick whizz round the gallery if you’ve got more time to spare. Perfect.

A wonderful cozy country restaurant with fantastic, friendly and efficient service. Start with a glass of wine and the menu by the roaring fire in the candelit corner. Settle in for the evening with the simple but delicious menu selection. The imam bayaldi is a treat and the simple 'fish and chips’ belies the most fantastic fresh fish and fat chips. The home made sorbets are so moreish you’ll want to try the lot.
Suep Nope - I'm a local mother of three and part time farmer... Sorry my syntax didn't impress you. But did you try their food?

Is this the best restaurant in Wales…?!? (And that’s in the face of stiff competition in Monmouthshire…)
This is modern British at it’s best - imaginative, fresh, well executed, generous - good service and a lovely setting. My scallop and salmon on cauliflower puree was superb, though Husband argued strongly for his ham hock and chorizo with caramelised fruits. I followed with the most sublime monkfish with pig cheek and black pudding terrine, whilst Husband took the lighter option with a perfect whole plaice with salsa verde. We finished off with a shared rhubarb, lychee and polenta crumble (tart enough to bite back) and gorgeous coffee - and staggered home replete and happy….

The prix fixe evening menu is fantastic value for money in central London. Not much choice - but at £8.50 for two courses and coffee, what can you say? Buzzy lively atmosphere. Great to grab a quick, early evening bite before making the long journey home….
