Käffchen - Kreuzberg

Oranienstr. 38, 10999 Berlin

17-04-2013

The best espresso in Kreuzberg! Totally amazing cheesecakes and carrot cake!

This is a new café but I already was here at least 10 times and it was always just the right decision. The room is pretty small with some rough deciration, the atmosphere is inviting and the staff friendly. The coffee tastes just like in Rome and the homemade cakes make the happiness complete. I will love Berlin as long as it will have Cafés like this one!

betahaus cafe - Kreuzberg

Prinzessinnenstraße 19-20, Kreuzberg, 10969 Berlin

Nice location: great to chill around with a friend, to read or to open your notebook and have your job done. Nice paninis, tasty food during the lunch time and the coffe is quite ok. You never get stressed by the staff asking if you want something else so you can sit here for hours an nobody will disturb you. You have to be patient with our order: it does not always go quick and smily faces are nor guaranteed. If you can leave with it (I found that I perfectly can) you'll probably like the place.

Landgasthaus und Café Fischerwirt - Schlehdorf

Unterauer Str. 1, 82444 Schlehdorf

A very nice location, great for sitting outside, seeping a beer and enjoying the view or reading a book. The staff is pretty friendly and the menu is long, more than enough to choose from. The food was ok, unfortunatelly not quite as good as one would expect considering a couple of slightly sofisticated dishes in the menu.

I ordered a bouillabaisse which turned out to be a simple fish soupe missing all the right herbs and spices not to mention the saffron. It tasted just ok. The Greek salad that followed had a couple of thin tomato slices, some green leafs, the cheepest black olives and cheese. It had not much in common with roughly cut pieces of fresh market vegetables that belong into a Greek salad. The cheese though was extremely tasty: fresh, soft and not too salted. I basically love any kind of olives but those had to stay on the plate unfortunately as they had a really strange taste. At this point I already knew that I probably shouldn't order anything else but vanila ice with caramelised pumpkin seeds, pumpkin seed oil and whipped cream sounded so good to me! Well, fade, fade, fade...

There is a saying in German "gewollt aber nicht gekonnt" meaning "wanted but could not" which describes the food here. There is a will, there is an ambition but the bottom is not hit rocked. Still nice to drop in for a drink.

Amsterdams Historisch Museum - Burgwallen-Nieuwe Zijde

Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal 357, Amsterdam

Overall a bit dissapointing. Considering the entrance price of 10 Euros I wish we would have spent this time in some other museum.

+
the museum is very interactive. At the entrance you take a brochure in your language. There is a QR code on the cover which you have to scan everytime you see a TV screen, the film will play in your language then.
-
certainly a nice thing if the wouldn't be so many visitors. In fact you have to wait all the time to get a chance to grab the earphones and watch the film in your language. To most films you can only listen with earphones and there are no more than four of them attached to every screen.

+
the exposition is pretty extensive, it tells us how Amsterdam was founded, build, how it developed and what the live in the city used to be like.
-
we had problems following the historic path and jumped from one century into the other and back only because there are no clear signs on what is next and you often find yourself choosing between going left and going right and having no idea which room follows up the one you've just seen.

+
there is a free of charge gallery with some old paintings and modern art which is nice to see

Amsterzonian - Amsterdam-Noord

Amsterdam for those who want more than just to party

We have booked this b&b for three nights over Easter 2013 but we liked it so much that we stayed one day longer. The owner's name is Fred and he is a very friendly and helpful man of great persinality. From the very beginning he was very quick answering my e-mails and prividing me with all the information I needed. The room was not too big but very good lit and it had much more comfort than we could expect: fully equiped kitchen, a nice caffee machine, comfy bathrobes, fresh flowers, lots of nice food for breakfast stored in the fridge, high quality soap... The bed was very comfortable, the WiFi was free. The great bonus was the possibility to park the car for free just in front of the house and free bikes that gave us the freedom of movement so we could see much more of Amsterdam than by just walking around. Just a pity the weather didn't allow us to use the kayaks which Fred also offers for free. There is a big supermarket no more than three minutes away and a bus stop with several bus lines.

All in one it is a great location for those traveling by car, enjoying good sleep in a quiet room and some sporty activities. We were happy to stay at Amazonian and would do it again any time.

Cafe Kredenz - Charlottenburg

Kantstrasse 81, Am Amtsgerichtsplatz, D-10627 Berlin

03-12-2012

If my granny would have had a cosy little house, if she were collecting charming little old things, if she could make pastry, then visiting her would be so much the same as visiting this place. Unfortunetly my granny is not like this. Fortunately there is Cafe Kredenz. Old-fashioned in a charming and personal way, hosting everybody like a good friend and not like a customer, offering a choice of pastries among which it is almost incredible to decide this Cafe is just so very special.
Not only the atmosphere but also the cakes are impressive. None of them I tried was too sweet. Dacquoise Baiser cake is incredible! And the rest is so tasty that one just can't stop after one piece. Well, at least I couldn't...
The egoistic part of me wants that this cafe stays an insider tip for a while, the better part wants to tell everyone!

Mundvoll - Kreuzberg

Waldemarstraße 48, 10997 Berlin

01-11-2012

I have been walking past this Café-Restaurant for many times during the last year thinking to myself "well, another "Kiez Kneipe", Kreuzber, you know". The only thing that really attracted my attention were the two wooden palettes used for the vertical gardening at the entrance. Finally those palettes were the reason why I grasped their menu one day, to discover to my surprise that the "Kneipe" is not as is simple as it is. Finally I visited it for lunch yesterday and got enough reasons to return today for another lunch.

The location inside is more inviting than it seems to be from the outside. The kitchen is right there in the dining room right behind a huge glass wall. So you can watch the food being prepare without getting too much of a smell. The lunch menu changes everyday and includes soups, a sandwich, a pasta dish and one kind of a really big heavy main dish. All in one there are around seven to eight changing dishes to choose from, varying from around 4 to 9 Euros each. Everything looks really tasty and homemade. A soup I tried was really delicious, as well as the pasta my colleague has had. Accompanied by a glass of simple but good Riesling it made a perfect lunch.

A sandwich on the neighbour table teased my appetite so I returned today to try it. Much to my disappointment today’s sandwich was with meat. It looked tasty but was not an option for a vegetarian. The stuff was very friendly though and there was no problem to get a cheese sandwich, which was not on the menu. And it was one made with love: just enough bread to balance the taste of fresh cheese, a mix of cions and different greens and a small salad for gourmet rabbits.

Well, for now it will be my favourite lunch location to treat myself in the days when the job stress just gets over the top…

Dresden in Kreuzberg - Kreuzberg

Dresdener Straße 19, 10999 Berlin

01-11-2012

In times, when leafs fall down and sky is grey, when walks get short and cafe-stays long, there is nothing that reminds me of summer more than a cocktail from freshly squeezed apple juice and fresh-cut, greener than green wheatgrass in Café Dresden! If for a long friendly chat, a highly concentrated creative brainstorming or a collecting point before jumping into a great party night, it is always the right place.

Restaurante las Chacaras - Hermigua

Lomo San Pedro 5, La Gomera, 38820 Hermigua

27-09-2012

In La Gomera it is not easy to find a restaurant where you will like your salad just as much as your fish or a dessert. While fish is mostly good the rest is often somewhere between ordinary and not enjoyable. Well, this here is definitely a great exception!

Very good meat, fish, cheese and desserts. Tasty house wine. Great service: you get informed about the fish of the day without even having asked, you get asked if you wish your steak medium or well-done, recommendations are good and even some English is spoken! The Cortado coffee was the best we had on the island.

All in one simple but tasty and authentic food, good service, friendly atmosphere and good prices.

Great location for breakfast. Nice atmosphere, 70th design, good coffee and big portions. Everything was fresh & tasty though certainly not on a gourmet level. Don’t order two dishes at once, wait for the first as it can really be too much.
On Saturdays it is nice to sit outside and watch the nearby market.
