National Trust: Watersmeet House - Lynmouth
Watersmeet Road, Lynmouth, Devon EX35 6NT
21-02-2010
A lovely walk along the river from Lynmouth brings you to Watersmeet house. It's a pretty stop off on a beautiful National Trust Route ideal for all ages.
Those who are feeling more energetic can take a walk up the hill and over the top and across to the coastal path back to Lynmouth. It makes for a great afternoon walk although could be slippery in winter
The Rising Sun - Lynmouth
Harbourside, Lynmouth, Devon EX35 6EG

This is an amazing pub! It's really traditional and picturesqe - right on the harbour front in Lynmouth. The town itself is great as a base for a weekend away and the pub is by far the best in the village for spending the evening. The food is typical gournet pub prices but it's really good quality and the bar staff are really friendly.
We went there for New Year last year and it was a fab night! Thoroughly recommend to anyone in the area!
indie bar - Birmingham
The Arcadian, Town Centre, Birmingham, West Midlands B5 6AB
21-02-2010
Indie bar is great for a few drinks although I'm not sure I'd spend an entire night here as it's quite small. It's really popular so gets really crowded on Friday and Saturday nights. Drinks are usual prices for Birmingham.
We were there around 10 - 11pm ish on a Friday and had to pay to get in - was £2 or £3 - my mate was charged 2 and I was charged 3!!
Waggon & Horses - Hartley Wintney
The High Street, Hook, Hampshire RG27 8NY

Great country pub with a nice friendly and local atmosphere. The inside is very small but there's a fab garden out the back which is great in summer.
Only downsides are that they don't serve food and it gets very crowded in the evenings.
hawkins bazaar - Basingstoke
Unit 59 Festival Shopping Centre, Basingstoke, Hampshire RG21 7BF

Hawkins Bazaar is a great place to find cheap stocking fillers or little fun gifts for friends. The stock is totally unique. It’s also got lots of funny / rude items that are good for a laugh. I was amazing to find things I had when I was a kid.. I had no idea they still existed!
Pavilion Central - Birmingham
38 High Street, Birmingham, West Midlands B4 7SL

The Pavillions isn’t nearly as good as the Bullring but it’s still worth a visit although it doesn’t have the sort of shops I’d visit often. There’s a good Marks and Spencer at the end though and a really good food court on the top floor that has lots of choice for a lunch out while shopping. It’s worth walking through on your way to Moor Street Station.
Pallasades Shopping Centre - Birmingham
East Mews The Pallasades, Birmingham, West Midlands B2 4XJ

There aren’t really any shops here worth visiting now as this place has really gone downhill in the last few years. There always seems to be at least 1 or 2 having closing down sales too so you get the impression things aren’t going well. There’s a Tesco and a couple of good pound shops but that’s about it.
Bullring Shopping Centre - Birmingham

This is a great shopping mall and a welcome addition to Birmingham City centre. There are all the usual high street brands as well as a Debenhams and Selfridges. It’s open late, which is good, but try and avoid shopping on a Saturday as it gets really crowded. The restaurants are ok (usual chains and coffee shops etc) but I’d eat elsewhere.
Debenhams - Birmingham
Upper Mall East Bull Ring, Birmingham, West Midlands B5 4BL

This is definitely the best department store in Birmingham as it’s actually reasonably priced and has a good range of women’s clothing. They have sales pretty often which is an added bonus. There’s a good kitchen department and they often have demonstrations of new knives and kitchen equipment, which are a bargain. Beware of the make-up people trying to grab you as you enter from New Street Station though!
Sunflower Lounge - Birmingham
76 Smallbrook Queensway, Birmingham, West Midlands B5 4EG

This is a great bar just out the back of New Street station. It’s a bit out of the way so the location isn’t great for a bar crawl but it’s still worth a visit. It’s really small, but different and there’s nice chilled indie - 70s atmosphere. We’ve rented out the top balcony bit for parties before and it’s always been a good night.
