Yin Dee is probably the best place to eat Thai in Peterborough.
On entry to the restaurant, you could be forgiven for thinking it is micro restaurant, with a dining area furnished in dark wood in front of the plate windows and the bar the other side. Focus on the bar for a moment, it is furnished with tile roof, despite being indoors.
Past this bar is where another dining room lies, really making this a lrger venue than antici[ated, but not a grand style like other venues.
The menu goes on for pages, with plenty of choice. I am a big Thai food fan, so I enjoy trying different things and here I have that opportunity. i also noted that they add new dishes every now and again, so not a static list to choose from.
The staff here are very welcoming and firendly. Nothing is too much trouble for them, but do expect less attantion if you dine at busy periods.
Now onto the food. To me This is first class Thai, freshly made, tantalising flavours with depth and heat too if you like it. The wine choice is small, but I would always take a lager.
Unlike certain other restaurants, the portions are appropriately sized, so that you can enjoy two or three courses with out feeling stuffed.
I always leave this place contented and glad I came. -

Don't expect much from this place. an "All you can eat" buffet joint, it offers various dishes on a Chinese theme.
I went there for a lunch time with work colleagues and found the quality of the food was average. Some of it was cold and they did not quickly refill some of the items that ran out.
The only thing of note was a self service "Mr Whippy" style ice cream
machine.
We were so disappointed with the food, we turned using the ice cream machine into a game. We took it in turns to see who could build the tallest whip. The ice cream wasn't great either, but was the most reliable thing I ate at the Gourmet Plaza.
If you think this place is Gourmet, you're nuts. -

This garage looks like a nice locally run garage and is a member of the good garages scheme. However, after a recent expreinece there, I would not recommend this place.
I had to have an MOT on my car done. After booking and rebooking, (because they could not fit me in after I showed up) I finally managed to get the test done. Only took 20 mins, but they failed my tyres. How? - I have tyres in a worst state (but still legal) passed elsewhere and given an advisory note rather than an out right fail.
I am used to my cars passing, I keep them serviced and get any repairs done promptly. So the garage told me they can change the tyres there and then and quote me. I asked about getting them changed 2 days later, but this wasn't supported.
In then end I decided to take them then and there, as obviously I was not going to have my car passed, even though there was nothing wrong with my tyres. The chap there said they could do it quickly. An hour and a quarter I got the car back - not so quick.
To boot they got the odometer reading wrong on the MOT certificate by adding 35000 miles!
To cap it off, i could have got the same tyres for £28 if I went elsewhere. My advice is use this place at your peril and but get any tyres fitted elsewhere.
NB The subsequent ratings by other folks on 5th and 9th November look suspicious - They joined Qype and only left one review on the day they joined - about this garage.
Joff Mongy, no this isn't Stanground Autos. Brake and Service World is opposite Aldi in Stanground (behind the Esso petrol station).

Valiantcat Joff is right.
Stanground Autos is (somewhat confusingly) in Fengate and not in Stanground at all.2 May 2011

I genuinely have yet to make up my mind about Lakeland despite being a shopper here for over 6 years. Let me explain.
Inside this store, you will find lots of kitche and home aids that you won’t find in many other places in UK. A lot of them are from the USA, but unless you travel ther or have a friend or family meber who will pick things up for you, this a good place to get those special items. So on that front Lakeland is great. However, when I enter here, why do I feel like I am attending a WI meeting? Probably it’s the staff. They tend to look at me, a man, and assume I don’t know anything about cooking or housekeeping and that I must be in here on an errand for someone else.
This feeling hasn’t gone away despite me going in here many times. I still enjoy shopping here, the staff are quite knowledgeable and helpful despite being mildly patronising.
Lakeland is not particularly cheap, actually it can be very expensive, but then neither are the alternatives of John Lewis or Westage Kitchenware departments cheap either.
I would say that Lakeland runs a successful shop as it is well laid out and does offer good service at a cost of a little bit more that the others.

Dominos. What else is there to write? American style pizza with all the toppings you can want on deep pan or thin crust. Extras such as garlic dough balls, garlic bread, ice cream, fizzy drinks are all available.
Located a few doors down from a Pizza Hut take away, the competition between the two keeps the good offers in place. Usually the offers are for collection only. The only snag is that waiting can be a long time (30 mins) on a busy night and parkins isn’t alway easy with the Broadway Theatre just across the road.
For me, choosing between Dominos and Pizza Hut is like choosing between two similar things. They bothe make pizza of a certain style and offer similar toppings. I personally don’t go in for frills, so Dominos just edges for me, but not by much.

Topo Gigio is one of those restaurants where the food is very good, but the decor could do with perhaps a little modernising.
Downstairs is the dining area whilst upstairs hosts a bar that looks like it was built in the 1980s.
Regardless, the friendly staff will take good care of you. The restaurant serves authentic Italian food and the flavour and quality show. This is real “stick to ribs” home cooking.
I had a calzone here and it was freshly made and tasty. Great with some red wine.
The cost of dining at Topo’s is very reasonable with my Calzone around £8.
Overall, even the though the place might look a bit dated, you’ll forgive that for the warm welcome and great food served here.

Monarch Automotive is a automotive garage that was formerly the Perkins Service Garage, which was sold off to Monarch.
The staff who work there are much the same as when it was part of Perkins.
The garage is a trustworthy one, where in my experience, they only do the work you ask them to do or they will tell you if something needs doing and then you decide.
Their customer service is good and the folks there have a good telephone manner.
Perhaps not the most convenient location, it is still worth goping to for trustworthy mechanics who charge adecent rate. A few main dealers could learn from this place.
I just hope they keep this good standard up.

This Showcase is beginning to look a bit tatty and frayed around the edges. Location wise, it’s on the edge of the city centre, so you have to drive here. It’s not easy to walk here.
Inside it’s bright and glitzy and the usual array of over priced popcorn, soda and sweets are available.
As it is a multiplex, some screens are invariably larger than others. You can check what is playing on what screen when you arrive. Sitting in one of the smaller screens, I could clearly notice the sound of gunfire coming from an adjoining screen from another movie that was playing. Obviously the soundproffing is not too good.
Overall it’s OK, there is not any nearby competition in Peterborough, so you are sort of stuck unless you want to drive. £5.75 for an adult is about as much I would want to pay to watch a film here.

Screwfix first became famous for their mail order business. But with delivery charges at £5, sometimes that is not economical, Thankfully they have opened up branches of “counters”. 135 in all in the UK, Peterborough is just one of them.
Think Wickes meets Argos and you wil have a good idea of what this place is like. To purchase anything, they have catlogues on benches. You fill in a slip with the part number and quanitity of what you want. You then pay at a desk where they check the stock level and then await it to arrive at another counter, a la Argos.
It is handy and quiet useful, as if they do not have the item in stock, they will tell you when it is due in and you can pay and reserve the item there and then.
Pricewise, they tend to be very competitive compared to the nearby Wickes store and are cheaper than Homebase. They also keep almost anything you would want from a builder’s merchants, including work wear and sat navs.
I use the website to see prices and then if they are the, most competitive, drop by and get the article I am interested in.

Peterborough Central Library is the largets library in Peterborough. Aside from lending books, it also lends CDs DVDs, has internet access, a children’s area, a periodicals section and adjoins the John Clare Theatre.
The library is quite modern and has undergone a facelift in the past few years. If you are a member you will be issued a card that will aloow you to check books out at the self service kiosks, book time on the computers, and also allow you to view the stock and reserve or renew books online.
It is quite a well stokced library in terms of books and the staff are quite helpful if you are looking for something in particular. It also hosts a book group that is the the first Thursday of the month in the evening and I think another on a Saturday in the daytime.
Open 7 days a week, this library is used by many members of the community and is an asset to the city.
