La Tasca - Southend-on-Sea

9-11 London Road, Southend-on-Sea SS1 1PE

22-05-2009

La tasca’s vary in perception and quality, they seem to be a brand that doesnt know the importance of continuity…
The Southend La Tasco, on both occasions i have been in there, was pretty much empty, yet took an age to get our food to us… was this because it was freshly sourced and cooked? err… no. It was pitiful micro-waved/re-heated, bland food. I dont know how southend get it so wrong!

Our drinks were cold and arrived quickly. In future i’d go to La Tasca for drinks and nibbles (and maybe their popular Salsa on a weds) but not for dinner.

Rootmaster - Whitechapel

32 Elys Yard, The Old Truman Brewery, Hanbury Street, Brick Lane, London E1 6QL

22-05-2009

What a novelty! I was dubious when we arrived (at 6feet tall the upstairs was a little…. cosy), but the lovely English organic white wine and good sized, flavourful (if a tad expensive) meals were fantastic. I wish i could have had two starters, as the portions seemed a little bit dinky, but the food itself was well thought out, elegant and balanced.

The service was lovely, we chatted with our waitress and the tablle opposite for a good hour after we had finished our food- I was sorry to have to go home.

A slick operation! No just a fancy gimmick. Recommended.

Horniman Museum & Gardens - Forest Hill

100 London Road, London SE23 3PQ

22-05-2009

Since they made London Museums free, The Horniman is the one i return to again and again. In quirky Forest Hill, its a beautiful mish-mash of ideas, designs, cultures and exhibits. Like your macabre? The victorian taxidermy is both scientifically interesting and a tiny bit chilling, the music rooms (hand-on sections too!) are fascinating, the building itself is beautiful, and a stroll through the well clipped garden followed by an ice cream in the gazebo, or feeding the chickens is a must. I haven’t even mentioned the aquarium or historical costumes!

Hyde Park - Kennington

Hyde Park: history, green space, relaxation, happy people, live music, roller skating, horseguards and ice cream. Hyde park is an oasis in the heart of London. I love it. The more often i go the more i see. I’d recommend a jaunt through Hyde park to anyone. My most memorable time was skating along the Serpentine at night, seeing the moonlight on the lake. Hyde park is a magical place where all the nicest bits of London convene.
