The Ambassador - Clerkenwell

For a straightforward 2 course meal with coffee and a couple of drinks, expect to pay a minimum of around £40 per head in the evening. Personally, I found this a bit hard to take, given the extremely average service, and fairly run of the mill food. At this kind of price, you do expect something a bit above average.
To cap it all, we were next door to an office party, who were bellowing at the top of their lungs. Impossible to have any kind of a conversation.

Meh. We went here for a staff Christmas meetup. We booked a table of 8 for some drinks, and 10 of us turned up. The manager had a hissy fit, and proceeded to give the organizer a good telling off in front of everyone else. Bad vibes throughout.

We went there recently, and the place has really hit the skids since the last time we went 8 years ago. Piles of rubbish and furniture everywhere, badly patched up damaged flooring, and they have closed down the top floor. The whole place has a rather seedy, 'past its sell by date' feel.
Avoid.

Another bad BS4 review. But being a resident, I feel morally obliged to warn people about some of the pubs around here.
Shabby, smelly and full of pond life. The last time we went here was on Guy Fawkes night, because we though the kids would enjoy themselves.
After paying to get in, the amassed throng was treated to the spectacle of some pot-bellied bloke staggering around with a pint of lager in one hand, and a taper in the other, lighting random objects. The main excitement came when he managed to knock a firework over, sending a multicoloured cascade of fizzing death straight into the crowd, missing the kids by a few feet.

A party of 10 of us had Sunday
lunch here a couple of weeks ago. Food arrived randomly with about half an hour between the first and the last main course. When it did arrive it was stone cold.
Kids chicken was baby chicken with tiny bones.
Staff were nice, but even under new management they still haven't got their act together. I mean come on. How difficult can it be!?
White Lion Inn - Clifton

1 star for the view.
We had some (4) friends to stay for the weekend, so this place seemed like a good idea, so they could see the bridge.
On arrival, it took us a long time to get served, as the staff were all pretty slow and listless.
When we chose and then ordered food at the bar, we asked for them to split payment for one order across 2 cards. This incredibly complicated feat of mathematics seems to ruin the barman’s day, as he tutted and moaned his way through the transaction like a stroppy teenager.
After a 1 hour wait, our food hadn’t arrived, so we asked after it. We were informed by bar staff that it had gone to the wrong table due to a number mix up, and that they would send it out to us. When it arrived, it was stone cold - obviously because it had been sat on a sideboard somewhere for 20 minutes while someone tried to figure out what to do with it.
I went and got the manager. He came over and 'apologized’. When I say 'apologized’, I mean he didn’t give a toss that we had waited 1 hour to eat, only to be given cold food. His attitude was apalling, and while we were calm and collected, he ended up stomping off in a hissy fit - thus antagonizing the situation even further.
I went and complained again. We got a £20 refund from the £70 bill.
Conclusion - never eat here. Good for a drink and the view, if you don’t mind the terrible staff.
As someone mentioned above, this place could be so much more. What a wasted opportunity.

Pretty manky and threadbare, but cheap.
