The Albion - Shoreditch

Ok so I gave it 5 stars. Could be as a biased Albion fan and this place is a shrine to the Baggies! A warm English pub with great decor (again a little biased with the Albion vibe!) and really friendly staff and customers. The landlord is a lifelong Baggies fan but welcomes all supporters. Even Wolves supporters! Theres never any trouble and the atmosphere is always warm and fun. Definetly recommend it to all but especially Baggies fans! Now I have moved away from the area I dont make it there very often but will make the effort whenever I can. Its the best!
London Planetarium & Madame Tussaud's - Marylebone
Marylebone Road Marylebone Road, Marylebone, London W1U 6NS

I never really thought of going to Madame Tussauds before as I thought it was only for kids but I went last summer with a couple of mates and we had a great time. I didnt think I could get so excited about a few pieces of wax but they really are so artistic and realistic you cant help but enjoy it. Though the Elvis Presley one was really disappointing! And the Jacko one was just scary but worth going to see. The show in the panetarium at the end was also fun but it was really busy so had taken us over 2 hours to get round which I wasnt expecting.
It is extremely over priced though and I would have been really disappointed had I paid that much for it. But we got tickets from collecting tokens in the Sun! In the summer theres always some sort of offers on in the papers so keep an eye out. Also check the TFL website and 'days out in London’ guide as they usually have some good offers on all year round. If you are travelling to Madame Tussauds by train then you can sometimes get a good deal with your train ticket so check when buying it. Overall it is fun and an enjoyable day out so start searching for those offers and you will have a good day out.

I agree with Ck-one. It is a nice bar for the area. The clientele can vary. I was there on a Friday night, there were a lot of suits but also a lot of very young students who decided it would be great to have a fight. Great entertainment!
The food is amazing! Even just a platter to share will be quite impressive and worth the price.
Great place to go for after-work drinks if you don’t really want to talk to your colleagues though!
Charlie Wright Bar - Shoreditch

This is a great place for watching sports. It also has some good jazz nights on sometimes but they can be expensive charging up to £10 on the door which is a bit silly for the type of venue it is.
It is great for a few drinks though mid week and is open late on a Fri or Sat so good to go to when you get thrown out of all the other pubs. It starts to get busy about midnight on the weekend. Its a nice cosy place and recently been refurbished so its looks good. Prices are average for the area. They also sell thai food which I have heard is pretty amazing though i havent had the chance to try it yet.
London Eye - South Bank
55 Victoria St, South Bank, London SW1H 0EU

I had been living in London for almost 4 years when I had some friends visit from abroad and we all decided to try out the London eye.
And am I glad I did. The views of London are amazing and its quite an experience. It made me fall in love with London all over again and remember why I moved here. Its a great way to see London, especially on a clear day.
I gave it 4 stars as it is expensive so its best to look for some deals. I think you may be able to get some good discounts when you purchase your train tickets and oyster sometimes have some 2 for 1 offers on. Keep an eye out and have a look in Time Out too. They sometimes have some good offers on.
Jolster - Førde
Vassenden, Førde
22-01-2009
Jolster is one of the most amazing places I have been to. I have had the fortunate experience to visit in both the winter and the summer and although its great for ski-ing in the winter I definetly recommend a Summer visit. Theres plenty to do in the summer,(plus it doesnt get dark till after midnight!) Jolster is full of culture including local folk music and art museums to visit.
The landscape and the surrounding scenery of Jolster is worth the trip in itself with majestic mountains and the sound of gushing water falls it really is something else. Theres also a beautiful lake called the Jølstravatn where you can go fishing.
If you fancy being a bit more active you must go rafting on the Jolstra river. It is known to be one of the wildest rivers in Norway, the guide speaks English so you dont have to worry about following instructions. I had never been before and it really was the most amazing experience. If you haven’t tried rafting you really must do it here! Our guide was from NZ and he said the Jolstra was the best river he had been on so there you have it!
Also try glacier walking. The glaciers are within easy reach of Jolster so I recommend the trip.
In amongst all the activity do take the time to go for walks and just appreciate the beauty of Jolster and just enjoy!
Fløibanen funicular. - Bergen
Bergen
22-01-2009
The Fløibanen funicular will take you to the top of Mount Fløyen in the centre of Bergen whereyou will see some of the most spectaular views, ever! I do say this about most of Norway as it is one of the most majestic, naturally beautiful places I have ever visted. But I do recommend you pay the money to do take the funicular if you find yourself in Bergen. It is expensive (most things in Norway are!) but if you like amazing views and a once in a lifetime experience then you must try this. You can always just get a single and walk back down. The mountains are great for exploring and can be quite an adventure. Unfortunately I was too tired for this but I did meet some people that did try who recommended the hike back down.
flam railway - Myrdal
Myrdal
22-01-2009
Right, I don’t know where to start with this place. Whether you are a rail enthusiast or not you will be amazed by the engineering of this railway line and the amazing views along the route.
Starting at 2m above sea level you take the railway up the mountain (yes up the mountain!) to Myrdal around 865m above sea level! The views on the way are some of the most magnificient natural views you will ever see taking in some of Norways wild rivers and waterfalls and general splendor. On the way up you are given the opportunity to stop and get out to take some pictures/stretch your legs etc. I wont tell you what you will see when you stop as it will ruin the surprise but I can say it is definetly worth it! At the top at Myrdal we had some time to get some pictures etc and then we came back down again. If you are travelling on the Bergen railway to elsewhere in Norway you can change at Myrdal. The full length of the route, Flam - Myrdal, is about 20km and at some points it feels like you are actually travelling vertically! Quite an experience. All I can say is you won’t be disappointed - it is definetly worth the effort to get there.
Price to travel is fair. But note Norway is generally an expensive place so most things will cost a bit. Food in the immediate vicinity is pricey but its a tourist attraction so is like anywhere. Can’t complain really. Overall a very very very enjoyable experience.
Le Munch Bunch - Euston

Food is really nice and fresh here. Great for lunch if you work nearby. Wide variety of sandwiches/paninis/ciabattas, they will make them there for you so you can choose exactly what goes in them.
Pasta and hot filled jacket potatoes also available. Fair portions.
Jolster ski centre - Vassenden
Vassenden 6847, Sogn og Fjordane, Vassenden
21-01-2009
Jolster ski centre is set in the beautiful village of Vassenden, Forde. It is a small centre with only 2 lifts at present but is suitable for all levels of skiers. The beginners slope is a decent size for learning the ropes if you are totally new to ski-ing (watch out for the little 2 year olds though!) and an alpine slope with skilift , Theres also has a 10 m high ski jump, and a quarterpipe and other fancy jumps along the way down! Unfortunately my ski-ing skills didnt allow me to venture to such areas but I heard it is amazing!
You can hire ski equipment there and its really cheap. Ski hire was around £15 on weekdays and about £20 on weekends which didnt seem too much compared to prices of everything else in Norway!
It also looked like they were building huts around the area so it could be turned into a resort soon where you can stay which would be nice.
Vassenden itself is just the most lovely place too so after ski-ing watch the sunset over the mountains - it really is something! Theres not much else to do there! But the local town is not far where there is a decent club which is a nice place to meet the locals.
I will be going back next year to brush up on my ski-ing skills again!
