Really good hairdresser in the cool Malasaña, right next to Plaza del 2 de Mayo. After coming from London, used to have my hair cut there in an amazing place, I was afraid about leaving my hair in the hands of a random bad stylist. So I researched in Internet and after reading many good reviews about Corto y Cambio, I called to make an appointment (it’s a must, specially on Saturdays). Richard was the one that did my hair, and he did an amazing job. The shape was perfect and so was the length, exactly as I wanted. All the guys there are very friendly. The 2 girls that were there before me and the one that arrived later were all of them regulars, and they kept chatting all the time. It’s a very nice environment and you feel quite comfortable all the time.

The only downside is the price: 35€ (cut & dry), on the expensive side for Spain, but for me it’s totally worth it. I’ll be back for sure for my next cut.

Fantastic hotel in the centre of Bilbao, great to visit the city and for a short stay. The guy at the reception was possibly the friendliest person I’ve met in a hotel, and everything in the room was nice and clean. Location is perfect too, in a very nice street and right next to Café Iruña, a must visit. The only bad thing was the food. We didn’t have breakfast included, but my boyfriend ordered a pizza from the room service that was quite bad, like a frozen pizza, for 16€. Apart from that, absolutely recommended.

A not too bad japanese restaurant. The choice of udon and ramen is good, and there aren’t many places in Madrid where you can find chicken katsu curry. Dishes in the menu aren’t very cheap, but set menus at lunch time are quite good value. I don’t recommend the sushi and in general the conveyor belt, expensive and not good.

Arian is a great gym, no doubts. I wouldn’t have thought of such a good sport centre in this area of Madrid. To start, the opening hours are amazing: from 7:00 to 23:00 on weekdays, 8:00 to 22:00 on Saturdays and 9:00 to 15:00 on Sundays (not in Summer, I believe). Staff are super friendly, they care a lot about how you feel, what you want to achieve, everything, and they seem genuinely interested. All the fitness equipment is quite new and in good condition, and there is plenty of machines so you don’t have to wait, even at peak times. I can’t say anything about the classes or the swimming pool, but there are plenty of different activities to choose.

In my opinion, prices are quite OK for the location even cheap. You can sign up for 9 months for 330€, for me, having lived for 2 years in London this is a bargain. It’s true that good deals are available only if you pay minimum 3 months, but that’s the idea, I suppose. Joining a gym for less than 3 months is quite useless, so… And if you just want to try it, you can always ask for a day pass before paying.

Desde que volví de Londres echaba de menos comer el pato laqueado al estilo pequinés (Pekin duck) que es tan normal en los restaurantes chinos londinenses. Por eso, durante una visita a Bilbao con mi chico decidimos renunciar por un día a los pinchos y venir a comer aquí porque sabíamos que tenían “crispy duck” y “Pekin duck”.

La carta me dio la impresión de ser una mezcla de comida tailandesa y china, con muchas opciones. Además del pato pedimos un par de platos más de dim sum. El mejor fueron unos dumplings (una especie de empanadillas) al vapor rellenas de carne con cilantro y bambú que estaban increíbles. El pato no estaba mal pero no tan rico como el que puedes encontrar en Londres.

En cuanto al precio, nos pareció aceptable. Pagamos algo menos de 30€ con bebidas pero sin postre entre los dos, y comimos más de sobra.

En resumen, un buen restaurante oriental si te gusta probar cosas nuevas y quieres algo un poco diferente de lo que estamos acostumbrados en España.

One of the most lovely shops in Madrid, for sure! Everything here is pretty and special, you’ll want to buy everything. Many of the items are handmade and from independent brands that usually aren’t easy to find in Spain.

Prices are quite reasonable and the guy in charge (he’s from Germany) is even nicer than the shop. I went today to buy some Christmas gifts and he wrapped them beautifully, taking his time and talking to me about his years in Madrid. I’ll come back for presents in the future and I’d recommend everyone nearby to go in and say hi :)

Very good cinema in the centre, and the only one I know that shows 3D movies with subtitles. The selection of films is quite good and it seems to be popular, so you’d better get your tickets with some time in advance, specially on weekends.

Seats are confortable and spacious, and the popcorn bucket is totally huge, more than enough for 2 people to share. The only downside is that prices are expensive, but so are other cinemas in Madrid, and the location is unbeatable.

Casa Mira es uno de esos sitios míticos para visitar en Madrid. En estas fechas está siempre llenísimo de gente comprando turrones y dulces navideños. Si vas cuando abren posiblemente no tendrás que esperar mucho rato (hoy a las 9:30, hora a la que abren, había unas 20 personas y estuve unos 15 minutos esperando hasta que me atendieron, nada mal). El escaparate es chulísimo, con unas repisas giratorias llenas de turrones, mazapanes, frutas escarchadas… y todo lo que tienen es artesano. Los precios son bastante elevados (43€ el kilo de turrón) pero la calidad es lo que tiene. A mí me merece la pena para una vez al año.

Lo único que me impide darles 5 estrellas es el servicio en general. Las dependientas son por lo general antipáticas y aunque es obvio que es un poco agobiante trabajar allí, es desagradable especialmente si tú eres amable con ellas. Pero lo peor en mi opinión es que no aceptan pago con tarjeta. Está guay lo de que te apunten la cuenta en un papelote azul y te hagan los cálculos a mano y todo eso, muy encantador, pero cuando la mayoría de la gente gasta más de 100€ en turrones, qué menos que no tener que llevar efectivo, ¿no?

Por lo demás, merece la pena ir. Tengo pendiente probar los pasteles y dulces del resto del año.

En mi opinión, uno de los museos pequeñitos más recomendables de Madrid. Las exposiciones temporales son geniales, muy interesantes, el acceso es gratuito y la localización es inmejorable: cerca del centro y de muchas tiendas y cafés súper chulos de Conde Duque. El edificio también merece la pena, especialmente la fachada del patio interior. La tienda tiene una buena selección de libros de ilustración y de novelas gráficas y la cafetería es agradable, aunque no he probado sus bebidas.

Esta tienda de Sony es uno de los espacios de electrónica más chulos de Madrid, recuerda al aspecto de las tiendas Apple pero con productos de Sony. Aquí podrás encontrar cualquier cosa del catálogo de la marca y un montón de gente bastante atenta que responderán a tus preguntas. Eso sí, los precios de todo son más elevados que los que podrás encontrar on-line. En mi opinión, está bien para ir a ver los artículos en directo. Es el único lugar de Madrid donde he podido probar el nuevo casco de visión subjetiva de Sony, el HMZ-T1.

Hacen bastantes eventos (por ejemplo hoy había una exposición de Ikebana) en la parte de abajo, que está decorada con un montón de sofás súper cómodos y muchas teles. Merece la pena ir.
