Madeley Court Hotel - Madeley
Castlefields Way, Telford TF7 5DW
10-02-2010
Madeley Court Hotel - Madeley

Vintage - Shrewsbury
69a Wyle Cop, Shrewsbury, Shropshire SY1 1UX
03-01-2009
As the name suggest this is a vintage store, which despite only being small stocks a brilliant selection of home wares, kitchen ware, bags, jewellery & the odd item of jewellery, as well as range of traditional style local & hand crafted items. The array of stock is absolutely brilliant & a delight to browse, everything is beautifully presented & very reasonably priced.
West Midlands Safari Park - Bewdley
Spring Grove, Bewdley, Worcestershire DY12 1LF
18-11-2008
Upon entering the Safari Park it’s advisable to make a quick toilet stop before entering the animal section as once you’re in it can take up to two hours to get round depending on how busy it is.
The tour enables you to get up close (sometime very close) to the animals of which there is a very good variety ranging from antelope to elephants. The 'Big Cat’ section is particuarly good with Lions, Tigers, Cheetahs & the gorgeous white lions. All the animals are well kept & the enclosures are very open.
Once you finish the tour WMSP has a huge amount to offer both adults & children. There are additional animal enclosures that can be viewed on foot (our daughter loved the seals which could be viewed underwater), educational presentations, gift shops & a rather large funfair.
With regards the funfair it’s advisable to get a wristband otherwise you have to buy tokens per ride which soon becomes expensive; the wristband allows unlimited access to all rides, subject to height restrictions.
The restaurant offers a variety of food baguettes for the healthier people & hot meals (w.chips) for everyone else. A bar is also on site if required.
Toilet facilities are adequate.
All in all WMSP is a great day out for the whole family with good attractions, facilities & there is plenty of on offer to fill the day.
Madeley Library - Madeley
20-21 Russell Square, Telford TF7 5BB
18-11-2008
Despite only being a small library, Madeley is still remarkably well stocked, they’re normally the first place I look for new releases & I am rarely dissapointed. The children’s section is absolutely excellent, possibly better stocked than the adults sections. The reference section, although again small, always has a brilliant selection recent & relevant books. They have a good number of computers that always run well & are easy to book into.
The library also offers a great range of activities & clubs, especially for children where they offer regular storytimes, Bounce & Rhyme, & craft times.
However, as much as I would love to give the library five, or even four, stars, I can’t because it’s never open! First of all they don’t open until 9.30am or 10am, then they shut for an hour at lunch (I’m sure there are enough staff for them to stagger their lunch breaks!) & then they close at five. This means that anybody who works regular hours has no chance of visiting during the week. In addition, many a time I have attempted to visit during the week within their (supposed) opening hours, only to find that they are closed without explanation! It’s a terrible shame that such a valued local resource is so throroughly difficult to make use of!
Vinegar Hill - Shrewsbury
24 st marys street, Shrewsbury, Shropshire SY1 1ED
18-11-2008
Vinegar Hill is a delightful little shop that stocks an eclectic mix of homeware, stationary, jewellery & childrens ware.
The store is tastefully decorated & beautifully presented, but the interior is rather rigid & doesn’t encourage browsing; a lot of the displays are very intricately put together & I don’t always feel comfortable disturbing them. It’s certainly not a store that I feel happy taking my young daughter into for fear of certain damage & doom, which is a shame as they do stock some delightful children’s products mixing smaller, unusual ranges with popular brand names.
The homewares & stationary are always well stocked & presumably carefully chosen, the majority are simple yet tasteful items, & are ideal for casual gifts.
Also worth a mention are the pleasing selection gift wraps & cards, these are always different & vastly better than those on the highstreet stores & noramlly very reasonably priced.
Generally, a nice store, just needs to relax a little!
Myriad Organics - Ludlow
22 Corve Street, Ludlow, Shropshire SY8 1DA
18-11-2008
Myraid Organics surprised me, both in terms of how big it actually is (I only expecting a tiny little shop) & the product range that they stock; rather than limited range, it’s more an all purpose little grocery shop with all sorts of food, toiletires, books & plenty of other bits & pieces.
The whole store was nicely laid out & organised, the staff were lovely & very welcoming, also very patient in answering my questions (there were quite a few, I was rather excited by the store). My daughter was most impressed by the child sized shopping baskets that were stacked next to the regular sized ones - it was a thoughtful little touch.
All the items that we purchased were of great quality, the fruit & veg were delicious & didn’t last long at all, likewise the fruit & nut bars. The clear soaps that they sold, whose name I stupidly did not take note of, were wonderful - perfect for sensitive skin & smelled delightful.
All in all, a wonderful store & excellent alternative to so many of the generic high street grocery shops.
Dunelm Fabric Shop - Wellington
Bridge Road, Telford TF1 1ED
18-11-2008
Dunelm is a large, almost old fashioned, fabric store that holds a massive range of fabrics as well has having it’s own haberdashery corner.
The selection of fabrics is impressive & wide ranging, also competively priced, but I find that a lot of them feel quite old fashioned & lack contemporary style, although I can spend quite a lot of time browsing, there’s rarely anything that I wish to buy.
Likewise, with a lot of the table coverings, upholstry fabrics & curtains, while the quality is not in question, the colours & pattern styles appear twenty years out of date & fail to compete with the selections seen in department stores.
The haberdashery is well stocked with range of sewing & craft tools & supplies, it carries mainly brand name goods, which is to its favour, but while reasonably priced in comparision to other highstreet stores they fail to match online prices.
Ego Cafe Bar - Ludlow
Quality Square, Ludlow, Shropshire SY8 1AR
18-11-2008
Ego Cafe Bar is an interesting little place, tucked off Ludlows main street in Quality Square.
The service was excellent, on entering we were promptly seated presented with a menu comprising of an enticing selection of hot & cold meals. When ordering the staff were very friendly & helpful, they were also wonderful with my daughter who had some four-year old questions about some of the meals & offered to make adjustments to the dishes if required.
The food was delicious, we were visiting mid-week & chose a selection of the sandwiches which were all generously sized (despite being from the 'light’ menu) & very fresh.
We were sat on the second floor & so had an enjoyable view over the rest of the square, the entire bar was well laid & tastefully decorated, with a relaxed atmosphere - certainly somewhere we’d eat again on a return visit to Ludlow.
Zani Lady Corve St Interiors - Ludlow
55 mill street (NOT CORVE STREET), Ludlow, Shropshire
18-11-2008
Zani Lady is possibly the most delightful shop in Ludlow, spread over four floors of a beautiful old house it stocks the most wonderful collection of antiques & curios.
The shops is stocked by several seperate dealers, each specialising in a different area & providing a hand picked selection furniture, houseware, crockery, linens, books, glass ware, jewellery & clothes & bags. The latter is my absolute favourite, there are two rails stocked with a wonderful selection of vintage attire, all of which is very competively priced.
The store is ideal for anybody looking for something different to decorate their home with or looking for good quality antique items. Browsing across all the floors is a true pleasure, everything is gorgeously presented in such a way that you can’t help but stop, look & examine things, & unlike so many similar shops it is possible to peruse things properly as the shop has such a comfortable & friendly atmosphere.
