English Heritage: Duxford Chapel - Whittlesford

Cambridge Road, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire CB2

19-11-2008 (updated on 16-04-2009)

This is an English Heritage place. We went here when we went to Duxford and thought we might pop in on the way back.
It wasn’t really that easy to find, and it was very small.
All that was there was a derilect building, that anyone could walk into (and obviously had).
There was a notice on the wall explaining what it was and that was it.
The kids were not impressed. I think we were there for all of 10 minutes.
Don’t bother to make a special trip here its not worth it.

Seaworld - Orlando

7007 Seaworld Drive, 32821 Orlando

26-01-2009

A great day out. We went on the Polar Tour, we saw various animals including penguins. We also got to touch them.
We saw the Shamu Adventures Show - if you sit near the front, you can get very wet! and the Blue Horizons Whale and Dolphin Show - both were very good.
There was also a Sealion Show.
The food places were all very expensive, but this was not unexpected.
There was alot more shows here. This meant not as many queues, but we did this easily in one day and left we didn’t need to go back.

Discovery Cove - Orlando

Discovery Cove Way 6000, FL 32821 Orlando

This was an awesome day out.
It was very expensive, but the price included your swim with the dolphins and all food, snacks and drinks though out the day and your wet suit, which you spent all day in. They also provided you with sunblock, which it was recommended we use, and we all did.
We did the swimming with the dolphins first. This was good, as it meant you didn’t have to be clock watching (especially, unless you have a waterproof watch, you don’t have a watch on!) so you don’t miss your session. Photos and videos were taken, which you could purchase later on (again very expensive, but a once in a lifetime opportunity).
We went paddling with Sting Rays, snorkelling in the coral reef and also into the Tropical River.
I would really recommend this day.

Walt Disney World: Epcot - Paris

12 rue de Capri, 75012 Paris

This was one of the quieter parks, but just as good as all the others. I would say this one is slightly more educational than the others. But this was the one the kids chose to go back to on the last day.
There were less big rides, so this meant less queue.
It is worth getting your fast pass for Soarin, straight away. (In disney you can get a fast pass for one ride at a time, but this is included in your ticket price).
Soarin’ was the best ride there.
The kids made cookies as junior chefs and we also went on extra tour (extra charge) where we saw the Land of Epcot, where they grow products without soil.

This is a great park. But unless you are definately going more than a few times, you need to get a fast pass. These are quite expensive, but they do cut out alot of the queues.
We managed to get on all we wanted using the fast passes. The queues otherwise were mostly over an hour.
The Men in Black ride was really good, as was the Shrek 4D. The special effects were great. Afterwards you could have your photo taken with Donkey - he was very funny, Shrek etc.
The show we saw was Fear Factor. These were all very well organised. They were very like the real show.

Disney's Hollywood Studios - Orlando

This is a great place.
When we went they had a special Star Wars section. They picked children from the audience, who they 'trained’ and then they fought Darth Vadar. The kids luckly both got chosen and love this.
The Muppet Vision 3D was very good. The chairs were a bit deep, so my daughter had to sit on my lap to be able to see.
We watched the parade, alot of the disney characters were in cars.
The Indiana Jones Stunt Show was excellent. If we had time, we would have gone again.
We also went on the Backlot tour. Well worth going on.
It definately takes more than one day to cover it all.

Woburn Safari Park - Milton Keynes

Woburn Park, Milton Keynes MK17 9QN

This is a great zoo. There is a good amount of space for the animals. There is a drive round part at the beginning. You can miss it out or go later if you want. It is very good. They recommend you don’t stop the car, but keep moving slowly round. There is always something to see. Quite often the animals are doing something like the monkeys who will climb on cars.
You also drive though the lions. Sometimes you are lucky and they are moving around, but sometimes all you can see are lions in the distance.
The rest of the zoo is also very good.
There is a big parking area, where you can have your picnic if you want. Food there is fairly expensive, so a picnic is a good idea.
They have a walk through lemur enclosure, and they do feeding of the penguins. These are my sons favourites, and at feeding time they allow 2 children to help them, but you have to be quick with your hand.
My son got to do this once and really enjoyed it.
We live about 30 mins from here and decided to buy an annual pass. It was well worth it, we used it alot.

London Zoo - Marylebone

Regents Park, Regent's Park, London NW1 4RY

26-01-2009

This is a decent sized zoo. The only problem is, unlike whipsnade, their sister zoo, there is not much space for the animals.
There are lots of variety of animals, from reptiles, snakes, insects to monkeys, lemurs and lions, etc.
It is always fairly busy, especially at weekends. They have various shows, for rare animals and birds. They also do feeding times for some of the animals suc as the penguins.
They have activities for children to do.
It is definately a full day out.
The food places are fairly expensive and they also have shops, which have a large variety of priced item in.
They also have facilities for wedding.

The Natural History Museum - Knightsbridge

Cromwell Road,, South Kensington, London SW7 5BD

26-01-2009

Another good museum. Its next door to the science museum, but its a bit hard to try and do them both in one day. We tried this and didn’t get round it all.
The food here is quite expensive, but I suppose this is made up for, as you can get in free.
There is a very good educational section for the kids, downstairs. This is very good, the kids can interact with things and touch and feel bones etc.
The queues for the dinosaur exhibit were extremely long. because it was so busy they had to limit the number of people going in, therefore there was a queue to get in. This was about an hour long!
They have really made an effort to make the place appealing to children.

Science Museum - Knightsbridge

Exhibition Road, South Kensington, London SW7 2DD

This is a great place to take kids.
It is free to get in, apart from if you would like to go in the IMAX cinema. This is a great experience, but is a bit expensive.
The food place are quite expensive also.
The museum itself is great. There is alot to read, so if with kids, you may have to skip over reading too much.
There is a great interactive place called the future, were you can find out how things might affect you in the future. One game gave you life choices, and depending on what you picked at the end gave you a life expectancy.
They used to have a great place in the basement for the kids, this has now been moved upstairs. Its a bit smaller than what it used to be when it was in the basement, but its still very good. Its a hands on place for kids to do various experiments. We spent alot of time here.
