Tootsies Restaurant - Hemel Hempstead
Unit 2a Riverside Development, Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire HP1 1BT
18-11-2008
(updated on 06-01-2009)
Expensive and posh burgers are the name of the game here.
Very tasty, big portions and a variety of fillings are available as well as the choice of chip-style.
Probably the best thing on offer at Tootsies is the Cocktail menu during Happy Hour (between 5-7pm) as they are 2-4-1 and very drinkable!
ADDITIONAL:
I went last week with three friends and was incredibly p*ed-off with the service. Bear in mind that there was only 1 other table of people in the restaurant…
Upon being seated:
after repeating the words 'lager’, 'beer’, 'kronenbourg’ and other variations on this for several minutes, I had to get up and go to the bar and show the waiter our drinks order as he could not speak english. He also understood 'coke’ but not 'diet coke’..
Upon ordering:
as the waiter did not understand english, ordering took 10 minutes and we ended up pointing to the menu to choose our food..
50 minutes after ordering:
our meal had not turned up and we asked what was happening..
1hr after ordering:
still no sign of the food and someone comes out from the kitchen to apologise for the delay and mention that it was “because there is a large table in front of you”... apparently 8 people is a large table… even if there are only 12 people in a restaurant that can hold 50.
1 hour 15 minutes after ordering:
we were getting rather irate and the manager deigned to speak to us to let us know “its not your fault the food is being delayed, there is a problem in the kitchen”.. We KNOW its not our fault, its YOURS…
1hr 30 minutes after ordering:
the manager says “dont worry, ill take the drinks off of your bill”..
1hr 40 minutes after waiting:
we all got up and left.. and went to dominos pizza for our food, which turned up in 20minutes!
Oojam - Hemel Hempstead

oojam, Oojam, OOjam, OO dear god stop it!
Probably the most irritating company branding ive come across so far, even the menu is annoying with the number of “oo”s in it..
I’ll keep this breif before my pc dies again..
The 'contemporary indian’ idea of oojam is quite a novel idea, as long as you dont go down expecting to see an Actual indian menu.
Rather than being Indian restauant with an English twist it feels like a yuppy nonce has seen an indian restaurant and decided to make one himself 'with a bit more class’.
There is a pretty pretentious air to the place; although I must admit the lighting display looks pretty..
I think the biggest disappointment came from the menu. I have only seen the lunch menu so far but was somewhat surprised that a restaurant professing to be indian would only have four curries on offer when the wetherspoons down the road offers six. DONT GET ME WRONG, im not trying to compare the quality of the two.. they are incomparable, i just mention the range..
There are some strange choices on the menu, from the “hand-squished” chicken mince burger to the “railway” lamb. However the meals we tried were swift to be prepared and tasted wonderful.
Although the food was a little overpriced, the service was excellent and the flavours were rich and varied.
I will probably go back to try the evening menu, but I certainly won’t be rushing..

A below-average over-priced indian resaurant.
The serice is acceptable and the food is fair, but the prices are inflated for the overall quality of the experience.
I was incredibly disappointed when I returned here after about 4 years, as the last time I visited I have fond memories of the superb food and service on offer.
The place has slipped quite frankly, and I found that the dishes were mostly bland and tasteless and the service was kind of insipid.
If you are looking for a corporate event (where you are not fitting the bill) the puffed up attitude of the staff and atmosphee of the restaurant will suit you perfectly. However if you’re going for a meal with your friends or family then go to the Mogul or Chutneys as they are much better suited!

Very cheap prices but stock levels can be an issue on some products (especially special offers and deals). the store is laid out well and most things are easy to find, but is it just me or is everyone you ask for help a complete gomm?
Greenacres Ii - Hemel Hempstead

not a bad pub, but the last time i went up there a big fight kicked off in the middle of a darts match, angry shouting men and sharp metal are not a good combination!

Post Office Arms - Hemel Hempstead

Affectionately known as the “Patch” by locals and regulars, this locals pub located on Puller Road is very small but Incredibly popular!
You can get a good pint of London Pride and some nibbles and watch the rugby or football on the tv near the back door.
It feels close and comfortable in the patch and its a great place to go with a few mates to watch a match.

There are some fantastic deals available if you know what to look for, but if you just want to pop in for a quote you need to have a bit of spare time. I went in for a quote on a cheap flight to majorca around march time; an hour later i walked out with only two quotes and feeling rather more conused than when i went in!
although the staff do their jobs admirably and are incredibly competent, it just takes a very long time to search through their databases and they have to search each one individually to compare prices.
If you know where you want to go, when you want to go, where you want to stay and how much you have to spend then go to thomas cook because they DO have very good prices.
However: if you are unsure about any of the points above then check a few things online first!
