I went to a Livebait in Oxford (which I thoroughly enjoyed) and came here a few weeks ago thinking it was part of the same chain.... I was wrong. While the fish n' chips here is good, it's ridiculously overpriced. £18 for a main course! Pull the other one.
Quick tip - Get a voucher. I've often seen 25% of meal vouchers being flapped around in here, so the obviously exist. Can't see any on Qype mind....

The Southbank Tandoori is a far cry from being the best Indian restaurant in London, but it's decent and it's location is perfect.
Recommended order of play for a night out:
1. Head to the Old Vic for an early evening show
2. Wander down to the Anchor & Hope for a few pints of real ale (try and eat here, but it's always so busy)
3. Stagger across the road to the Southbank Tandoori for some late night Indian treats. I can recommend the chicken madras and lamb bhuna. Both hit the spot.Posted to: thelondonmonkey.blogspot.com/

A bit of a weird one this....
I couldn't work out whether it was a pub or a restaurant when i walked in. Part of me wanted to wait to be seated and the part wanted to canter up to the bar and order a pint of Amstel. Very odd.
In Imbibe's defence, they do have a very decent outdoor area, decent beer selection (although limited ale) and what looks to be quite nice food (although they do serve it on chopping boards, so expect the price of your meal to be bumped up by £2!).
I won't be rushing back, but i can see this as a nice summer watering hole for those living and working around southwark/London Bridge. Might be worth checking out the Pub Quiz on Tuesday nights.

Why, oh why did I not buy a house around Borough Market in the mid 90's. This part of London has seen serious development and change in the last 20 years (mostly centred around the market) and is now considered to be one of the most desirable spots south of the river. The Market itself is wonderful. Great, local food from real people. This an absolute must for visitors to London.
Quick tips - once you've finished your shopping, go for a drink in The Market Porter (a fine pub!) and if you feel like a sit down meal, go to "Roast" (above the Market.)

A nice little pub walking distance from both Southwark and Borough Tube stations. I wouldn't go so far as to say this is a "hidden gem", but it certainly does the job. London Pride on tap (i think that was the only ale) and although the pub is narrow and can look deceptively full, we found it relatively easy to find a seat.
Having just read MissRachelle's review, i was disappointed not to see the San Andreas fault running through the pub. The only "epic crack" i saw was that of the Landlord when he bent down to change the pumps.... Ho hum.

The Anchor & Hope is frequently referred to as one of the best gastropubs in South London. The pub itself is split into 2 sections - casual dining and proper pub. We went last night (Monday) and it was pretty darn busy. I can only imagine how full this place gets at the weekend! After a quick pint of Bombardier in the "proper pub" section we were shown to our table. My brother had the Mutton Curry which he ate with lip smacking gusto, so i can only assume it was excellent. My Cheese and Potato pie was also top notch and the side vegetables were fresh and tasty.
The service throughout was excellent and we felt very well looked after. The waiters have an air of confidence about them and rightly so - They obviously know that the food here is shit hot.
An easy 5 stars and the burning question is..... Do the Anchor & Hope do a Sunday roast? If they do, i will be back at the weekend :)

The Market Porter in Borough is a great pub for so many different reasons.
Real Ale - Arguably the largest selection of real ales in the country. The main bar is a veritable treasure trove of “bishop’s fingers”, “Black Sheep” and “Deuchars IPA”. From reading DMJ’s review below, i can confirm that there are over 20 beers available at any one time!
The Market - You can throw a tennis ball and hit some of the best market stalls in Borough market from this pub. A perfect watering hole once you’ve finished your shopping or had a bite to eat in the market.
The Atmosphere - Straight out of Dickens. This is a must visit pub for newbies and tourists in London. Don’t be afraid to spill out of the pub and stand beneath the hanging baskets on the market square. In my opinion, this is the best place to stand, chat, drink and soak up the comings and goings of Borough Market.
One of my favourite pubs in London.

The Island Cafe was a bit disappointing to be honest. I was promised free wifi by Qype Radar and was duly handed my login and password after ordering eggs and tea (which were decidely average). Imagine my consternation when i discovered the only place i could get a connection was out on the street! I tried for about 15 minutes to pick up a glimmer of connectivity in the cafe, but to no avail.
If you pride yourself on your free wifi, make sure it works :)

Update
I hear this place does a cracking breakfast so planning on heading here tomorrow bright and early for what many are claiming to be “The Best Breakfast in London”. Can’t wait!

Excellent, excellent, excellent.
We came here completely by chance. We’d originally intended to go to Black & Blue but it would have meant a 45 minute wait. After sipping Black Sheep and G&T’s at the bar and soaking up the atmospehere we were shown to our table. Even though the restaurant was very full, the service was still very attentive and friendly and the food came quickly. Both the roast chicken and the roasted pork belly were fantastic. Perfectly cooked and just the right blend of flavours. The meal came to about £80 for 2 people, which, given the quality of dinner, is an absolute bargain.
James Smith so… you had a roast chicken washed down with black sheep for breakfast?! I salute you sir!
