Wow, what a difference new ownership can make. This place has COMPLETELY transformed. It is easily one of the best pubs in the area on all levels. Friendly staff, prompt service and simply exquisite food. Really solid pub food, not pretentious, not over-produced, just delicious and plentiful. I cannot get over how good this place has become - really shows what a change of direction can yield.

I live literally 300ft from this place and went for the first time last week. I’m an idiot for waiting this long. Outstanding food, great service, great vibe. This is now my go-to restaurant when guests are in town.

In my never ending quest for good Mexican food in London, the wife and I walked the 7 miles from Fulham to Angel in the direction of the much-heralded Chilango.
We’d heard nothing but good things about this place from friends and family so we went with high hopes.
And we weren’t disappointed.
Good burritos, reasonable service, free refills. Winning combination. It’s also a good sign that they had agua fresca.
My chicken burrito was tasty and well made, and Deanne clearly enjoyed her carnitas burrito. Rounded off with chips and salsa fresca and it was well worth the trek. Best burrito I’ve had in London to date.
When the cashier rang up the total, I thought “wow, that’s pretty steep!” but as we ploughed through our burritos, I broke it down: £16 for 2 burritos, so sodas with free refills and chips and salsa ain’t bad. Not great but not bad, especially for London.
Few pieces of (very minor) feedback for the Chilango team:
- I don’t think sour cream and cheese are mutually exclusive. Don’t discourage people from having both.
- maybe create a salsa bar so people can try the three (excellent) salsas you have on offer.
- We may have had the Sunday crew but the team behind the counter could afford to smile from time to time.

I took my wife to Paris for a 'romantic’ weekend recently and after much research on my part I picked Hotel Sezz. Their website is snazzy and easy to use, I was booked in no time and the email confirmation came quickly.
When we arrived at the hotel it was tucked just off Ave Kennedy on a quiet residential street. Very nice. This is a “Design Hotel” so it’s very trendy and slick. Interestingly, there’s no check-in desk. When you arrive you’re greeted by your PA (a concept which I love) and they sit you down on the comfy couches, take your bags and bring you a drink of your choice while they go away and deal with the formalities. A few moments later the PA returns with your room key and escorts you up to your room.
We had the junior suite which was very nice indeed. There was a separate living area with a big couch, some chairs, a desk and plasma TV. The living area had it’s own balcony which was a nice touch. It was also filled with books, magazines, etc. The living also had an iPod dock and a cordless phone. The PA explained to me that he carried his phone at all times and I could reach him at anytime for anything. Suffice to say, the service was exceptional.
The bedroom was a very good size and could be sectioned off from the living area by heavy doors that blocked out most sound and light. The bed was unbelievably comfortable and had a neat drawer system built into it which held, among other things, the remotes for the second plasma TV and DVD player.
The bathroom was the size of my kitchen at home and contained a huge bathtub, a huge shower and double sinks that were immaculately designed. The bathroom was separated by floor-to-ceiling glass so you best be staying with someone you know well. The bathroom amenities were all top notch, with his and hers slippers and excellent toiletries.
There’s a Veuve Cliquout Grand Dame Champagne bar in the hotel but no restaurant so bear than in mind. The hotel does 24hr room service and their sushi menu looked excellent. There aren’t a ton of restaurants in the area but the staff are incredibly knowledgeable and seem to have connections at all of Paris’ hottest restaurants. We originally had a bookings for a place but decided to stay in and try the restaurant down the road which our PA recommended.
All in all, I’d agree with klarka’s assessment that it’s a great place for a romantic weekend where you won’t be disturbed by cleaners and screaming kids.
Update: Oh! I forgot! Free wifi in the entire hotel!

First review? Really? Wow, ok.
So I’ve been to Paris 4 times in the 7 months that I’ve lived in London. Why? Because it’s so damn easy, that’s why! The Eurostar is the best thing in transport for years, I adore it. Now, I should preface this by saying that I get a great deal on the Eurostar through work which probably fuels my addiction but there always deals popping up in the newspaper so just keep your eyes open.
So why do I love the Eurostar? Well, apart from getting me to the heart of Paris in less time it would take to get to Manchester, the entire trip is painless. Checking-in consists of slotting your ticket through a machine which opens the barrier, security is about 100 times less invasive and time-consuming than at the airport, and immigration consists of a cursory glance at your EU passport. In less than 10 minutes you’re sitting in the departure hall waiting for your train to be called. It’s all assigned seating so there’s no need to queue up or rush to the platform for your departure.
Once on the train, there’s plenty of room for luggage and you make your way to your seat. The seats are either 4 around a table or 2 facing forwards or backwards. They’re comfortable and have built in headrests. There’s a buffet car on board that serves hot and cold food and drink, all of it perfectly reasonable in quality and cost.
I have yet to take a Eurostar that hasn’t been on time. You zip through the English countryside and through the tunnel and you emerge in France 47 minutes after you left London (yes, I’ve timed it). A little over an hour later you’re in Paris. So 2 and a quarter hours and you’re there. Incredible. Once in Paris you walk off the train and straight into Paris - no immigration or anything like that.
I still can’t quite get over how easy the Eurostar is.
