La Scena - Bucharest
Calea Calarasilor 55, Bucuresti
17-02-2010
A club-restaurant, where modern theatre plays are organized in the attic, La Scena is a nice place to spend your evenings while in Bucharest. Stand-up comedy shows, vintage fairs or photo exhibitions can also be found here.
The building used to be a manor at the begining of the 20th century, hence the big rooms, high ceiling and old stoves covered in white ceramic tiles. What I like about this place is the fact that each room is different than the others (different furniture, different music, different purpose), but they`re all artsy designed, wether it`s an oriental style room or an old Hollywood one. I definitely love the wall full of mirrors in all kind of sizes, shapes and frames and the "surrealistic" black & white floor.
La Scena (The Stage) is situated close to Unirii area, in the centre of Bucharest.
Cafe des Beaux Arts - Bucharest
Strada Franceza 7, Bucuresti
17-02-2010
My best friend discovered this lovely, old French style cafe on a Sunday morning. We`ve recently developed this (good) habit of enjoying our Sunday coffee together and, whenever possible, in a different cafe. The moment I got there, I knew I was already in love with this place. I sat down on a very comfortable old style armchair, with golden and dark red stripes, and ordered my coffee and, because I really liked the place, I also took a glass of cognac. Everything was tasty and the atmosphere made me say to my friend "What a lovely day, isn`t it? I feel perfect!". She then told me that this cafe belonged to a Romanian painter and pointed to the canvases hanging on the walls: "She made them!". And the menu reproduced some of her paintings, too. She then continued: "And the girl that brought us coffee is her daughter-in-law. She told me all the story before you got here." The music was perfect, too, and I could see the people passing by from the big window next to our table, partly covered by an artsy folded curtain. Maybe I should also mention that Cafe des Beaux Arts is situated in the old city centre on Strada Franceza (French Street), "the oldest street in Bucharest" - my friend knew that, too. :) Guess where I`ll be having my Sunday coffee this week-end!

Nice music and atmosphere, comfortable sofas, good drinks.. I really like the place! I remember laying on a comfortable sofa, shoes off my feet, music in my ears and a galss of fine red wine in my hand. Looks like I have some great memories about this place! :) I promise to go there again on my next visit to Germany.
Lucky 13 - Bucharest
Selari Street 9-11, Bucuresti
04-06-2008
Located in the heart of Bucharest, in the old city centre area, Lucky 13 is, I guess, my favourite place in town. Cozy atmosphere, low lights, jazz&rock music, vanilla coffee, comfortable chairs, good services… what more could you possible wish for? I forgot to mention about the music instruments shaped tables… :)
Planter`s Cafe - Bucharest
Stirbei Voda Street 68, Bucuresti
03-06-2008
I like to come here especially in Summer because it is a place that has no windows and where the interior is connected to the exterior. Large spaces that were supposed to be windows let the air come in and out. Music`s very relaxing and the whole atmosphere is cozy. At the entrance, on the grass, there are oriental carpets and pillows, where you can lay back and watch the stars or the trees or whatever it is, depending on the moment you find yourself there. Planter`s looks good inside, too, with comfortable chairs, armchairs and sofas, pillows, etc. Cismigiu Park is just across the street, so the area where this cafe is located is a really nice one, too. I suggest you go there…
L`Harmattan - Bucharest
Strada Franceza 56, Bucuresti
24-05-2008
This is actually the only place in Bucharest with genuine moroccan&french dishes. We came here to eat couscous, after seeing a movie about some arab emigrants living in France. These people were eating couscous for almost 2 hours, the duration of the moive. However, we booked a table at L`Harmattan and were very anxiuos to see what this whole couscous fuzz was all about. And the result was a great dinner, in a very clean place, with very good services. The couscous was absolutelly delicious. The food on the table actually vanished in 10 minutes - this is how much we liked it! The mix between sweet and spicy simply overwhelmed our senses. I recommend this restaurant and I will surely go there again!
