Dominos Pizza - Hackney

222 Mare Street, Hackney, London E8 3RD

14-07-2009

Pretty good prices if you are buying pixzza for a large group- they almost always have buy one get one free deals on large pizzas, but when you get the pizzas delivered they are often cold and horrible once they reach your house.

londis - Homerton

112-116 Lauriston road, Hackney, London E9 7LH

13-07-2009

Very good for basics like bread, milk, sugar and flour. There is also a post office in it and they sell a wide range of sweets.

It doesnt sell newspapers or magazines though.

Generally the people are nice but they can be a bit wary of children as they don’t trust them not to shoplift.

Argun Stationery - Hackney

344 Mare Street, Hackney, London E8 1JB

13-07-2009

I actually quite like this shop. Despite the fact it is fairly pricey, it tends to have all the stationery you need from felt tips and paints to paper and stickers and I found the people extremely friendy and helpful.

It does a good range of basics as well as more specific things.

It also offers a wonderful printing service which is not too badly priced.

The Bead shop - Covent Garden

21a Tower Street, Covent Garden, London WC2H 9NS

13-07-2009

This is a fantasic shop with a huge range of beads which would keep anyone happily amused for hours.

From basic block colour round beads to intricately designed glass beads, this shop has every type of bead imaginable :)

Octopus - Westminster

The Piazza, Covent Garden, London WC2E 8RB

13-07-2009

This is q quirky little shop which often becomes crowded because of the wonderfully unique items on sale.

The things they sell are very ordinary, ranging from watches and rings to knives, forks and umbrellas, however their designs are always innovative, unique and interesting.

On the minus side though I think that the items require a very specific taste and are often over-the-top and over-priced.

This shop is somewhere to buy a few quirky, colourful objects for your house, NOT somewhere to buy everyting you need to furnish your house with :P

Pavilion Cafe - London

360 Old Ford Road, Crown Gate West, Victoria Park, London E9 7DE

13-07-2009

The Pavillion cafe is situated in the smaller section of victoria park next to the lake and its a very nice place to sit and eat. You can sit inside or outside. Outside provides lovely views of the lake and fountain and inside is lovely too.

The food and drinks are very good and there is a wide choice to suit all tastes.

However it is quite expensive, so its not something to do too often. Also, due to its location there are often many babies and toddlers so it can be quite loud and hectic at times.

Victoria Park - Tower Hamlets

Grove Road, Tower Hamlets, London E3 5SN

13-07-2009

I love victoria park. There are two sections and each has a lake, and a playground. The playground in the smaller section is nice but mainly for younger childre, whereas the playground in the larger section is quite big and designed for older children as it has large slides and one of those tire things on a zip wire. It also has a small paddling pool which is great for very small kids as it is shallow.

The bigger section also has some deer, and although there are not many they are very cute. The larger section also has tennis courts and some other sports bits. There are often fairs and other events in the park which are usually wonderful. It also hosts festivals like love box weekend, underage festival and field day.

The smaller section has a large lake with a fountain which is very pretty and there is a pavillion next to the lake which serves fantastic food and drinks. It is quite expensive but worth it.

Victoria park is a great place for bbqs and picnics on sunny days, and a lovely place for walking/jogging especially as it is right next to the canal.

Banksy - Chalk Farm - Chalk Farm

Chalk Farm, London NW3 3QE

13-07-2009

I love this banksy, despite the vandalism/ restoration etc.

Its so clever and looks fantastic :D

O2 Academy Islington - Islington

16 Parkfield Street, Islington, London N1 0PS

13-07-2009

There are two parts to the academy: upstairs and downastairs. Upstairs is tiny and downstairs is not much bigger. They are both lovely venues though.

Upstairs is very intimate which can mean there is not much of an atmosphere, however, if the band is good they will be able to create one :)

Unfortunately there is no cloakroom upstairs- so pack lightly :P

Downstairs is also quite intimate and generally has a nice atmosphere. Also it DOES have a cloakroom which is VERY useful!

The downside to both parts is that the bands are normally quite small so the gigs are a bit hit and miss. However, I LOVE IT!

Shepherds Bush Empire - Shepherds Bush

56 Shepherds Bush Green, Shepherd's Bush, London W12 8TT

13-07-2009

Big enough to have good bands and a fabulous atmosphere; small enough to be close to the band without queuing forever.

Its also easy to get to :)
