I took 6 very expensive skirts to Barbara Rawlinsons to be shortened, with specific instructions as to the length required. When I collected them the hems were very uneven, badly stitched, and above the minimum length I had stipulated, so could not be corrected to my satisfaction. I would not recommend Barbara Rawlinson Alterations under any circumstances.

BarbaraRawlinson In 35 years, we have altered well over 100,000 garments for satisfied customers, including some of the biggest names on the High Street.
This customer brought in 6 identical skirts for identical alteration. We spent a great deal of time and effort in an attempt to make her happy. The customer carefully examined each and every skirt, expressed her satisfaction and accepted them. In December 2011, after she had complained, we realised that we were in an impossible situation and gave her a full refund. Some weeks later, after having cashed the cheque, she complained again.

I like Stringer's and have always found most of the staff to be helpful and friendly. It is one of the few independent department stores left in the area. It is not huge, but they do offer a good choice of quality products. As for feeling inferior to any "snooty" staff, I always remember the quote from Eleanor Roosevelt "No one can make you feel inferior without your permission".
