La Tasca - Manchester

The Trafford Centre, Manchester, Greater Manchester M17 8AA

19-11-2008

We love going to La Tasca in general and the Trafford Centre branch is our favorite. There is a fantastic atmosphere. I love sitting and watching the world go by. There is no pressure to eat and go. I love the whole concept of tapas and really enjoy the food on offer here.
The decor is really good. I love the glow the lighting casts and always feel relaxed in here.
Another thing in La Tascas favour is that they cater for vegetarians (I know that most SAY they do veg chili anyone? ) but it is nice to have a selection of things my husband can choose from.
Also there is no pressure to order a particular amount. Sometimes when I am shopping at the Trafford Centre I occasionally pop in for a snack or even just a coffee. I know that La Tasca does divide people its love it or hate it, but for us both well we are very much in the love it camp. Writing this has made me wish I was there now!

Richards Creative Confectionery - Urmston

This is a stunning shop owned and run by a total genius!! He makes cakes to order and what cakes! Superman any film tie in you want!
We ordered a Harry Potter cake for Harry Potter day at my husbands school and couldn’t believe what we got. I have never seen such a perfect work of art!
There are cakes available to buy “off the peg” and to order. You go into the shop and tell them what you want and they will make suggestions.
There are lots of pictures and the hardest part is to decide which fantastic cake you are going to buy!!

Parker Bradburn - Urmston

171 Canterbury Road, Manchester, Greater Manchester M41 0SE

Useful and well situated. They have a wide range of goodies although they often sell out of muffins.
For some reason I really like the pies from this branch. No idea why as I guess they are from the same bakery but they taste better! Sad but true! A good little shop.

Hampsons - Urmston

9 Davyhulme Circle, Manchester, Greater Manchester M41 0ST

Quite small but clean and bright. The bread from here is really nice. They have a lot of cream cakes that are displayed in an irresistible way!
The only slight niggle is that sometimes the queueing gets a bit messy. Some just stand in front of the hot display unit and it gets a bit messy. In a shop this size separate queue’s do not work. Otherwise good though.

Hamptons - Urmston

This shop has closed. The building had been knocked down

Good but tiny. Horrendous queues around lunchtime due to the demise of Hampsons. It is not unusual to have the queue out of the door. The cheese savoury sandwich is well worth the wait though. They offer loads of choice which is impressive given the size of the shop.

Waterstone's - Manchester

The Trafford Centre, Manchester, Greater Manchester M17 8AA

More of a shop than a bookshop if you can follow that logic! It is on one floor and lacks the atmosphere of the Deansgate store. The displays tend to be of the blockbuster /gift book type .
Some of the bays(the fiction in particular)tend to be cramped and it is not always easy to find what you are looking for.
Increasing the ammount of assistants may well help as it is not always easy to get hold of one, and htey tend to be very busy. They are always pleasent and helpful though.
It is good to have a branch in the Trafford Centre but it can’t compare to the Deansgate branch.

Sharston Books - Manchester

Unit15 Longley Lane, Manchester, Greater Manchester M22 4WT

When you first arrive you may well think you have gone to the wrong place. It is not a conventional bookshop but rather a huge warehouse on a small industrial estate.
Another bit of advice is wrap up well! it is the sort of place you will want to linger at but it is NOT what you would call warm!!(freezing in fact!) There are books as far as the eye can see loads of nooks and crannies. Loads of secondhand stuff although they do seem to have a lot more new stuff now.
It is very unusual with some truly awful prints and pictures also for sale (although why anybody would want to??????)
There are loads of magazines. I was delighted to get a bundle of out of print magazines a couple of visits ago. The only disappointing thing is that the prices have risen significantly, although it still does have bargains.
You will pay more than you would at a charity shop.
It is still worth a visit provided you are well wrapped up! If you are looking for unusual or old books this is a great place to start your search.

Chorlton Bookshop - Manchester

506-508 Wilbraham Road, Manchester, Greater Manchester M21 9AW

I like visiting this shop. It has a great atmosphere, with really nice music always playing. The staff are friendly and helpful. You can browse without pressure and there are always great displays. There are also arty cards and gift sets. I go to this shop a good few times a year. Always before Christmas and always look forward to my visit. This is a “proper” traditional bookshop and comes highly recommended.

C T S Bookshop - Manchester

A lovely inspiring shop. Fantastic place to buy cards and gifts. Well set out with staff that are always prepared to listen and if needed, offer advice.
This is bright, well stocked and has a wide range of items.
It has a wide range of prices all reasonable. It is fantastic for anyone with a hard to buy for relative. It is NOT only catholiic merchandise and is well worth a visit.
