The Market Brasserie - Mayfair

16-18 Shepherd Market, Mayfair, London W1J 7QH

06-06-2009

Nice area, narrow, intimate street , tiny place good for laid back lunch or dinner. However certainly it deserves better food and service, especially for a Mayfair price. We got cold, burned croutons, pasta without much taste. Hopefully the wine was good… But wouldn’t it be as good if purchased in nearby shop and drunk during private picnic in Green Park nearby?

Abney Park Cemetery Trust - Stoke Newington

Abney Pk Cemetery Stoke Newington Church Street, London N16 0LH

This is an extraordinary, strange place - even for London. Sculptures, crosses, grave stones overwhelmed by power of nature. Shows how reality in centre of London may outrun a film set.

Three Blind Mice Bar - Shoreditch

5 Ravey Street, London EC2A 4QW

Great tiny place hidden in a cellar. Plays best music around. Usually crowded so much that you need to swim through - but what a crowd :)

Maryon Wilson Park - Charlton

Thronetree Road, London SE7 8HT

If you never seen the film - Antonioni’s “Blowup” - this place may be nothing of interest to you - just some regular community park with sports ground surrounded by bushy hills, ran down a bit, having marks of better past. But if you have imagination or ever got captivated by Antonioni’s story, you will love it. You will wonder around looking for the body on top of small hill and maybe you will even see - not only hear - mimes playing inside empty tennis court.
It’s obvious to say that this place is different from what you might have imagined on base of the film. It has few touches - like rail passing in tunnels below, views of of river, youngsters from nearby blocks - that would even add to the mood. Anyway it’s good place to realize how extraordinary ordinary world is.
